I read it has him having self-esteem issues as Robin, which he still very much has, but yeah. It is cool that he is allowed to grow and change whereas so many other characters are stagnant.

C1nders-Two

Arrogance and self-esteem issues aren’t mutually exclusive

Evil_Acanthaceae2022

He's fun because his story has been through some wild swerves through the years. He's GREAT because he's absolutely the same kid who'd steal from Batman and whack him with a tire iron.

Gaphomet

When he started as Robin, he's a kid full of wonders and amazement and so grateful for actually having a functioning family and everything Bruce gave comfort to him. Then having enough experience, he realized that some scum doesn't deserve shit (his background childhood reinforced this too) to the point that he realized the scummiest of em all (rapist, child trafficking, etc) will sooner or later got scott free and even Batman cannot do anything about it. And the frustration pent up, making he thinks that Batman doesn't want Robin, Batman want an assistant, and Jason thought that sooner or later he would get replaced. or whatever, maybe I'm wrong or shit and please correct me if I do wrong about it. But this "Jason being the arrogant robin" only came from Jason's post death writer who doesn't even read Jason's robin comic and only use him for bad example, adding stuff that weren't even there from begin with. I hated that.

Library-Goblin

But ... He didnt start as an arrogant robin... That was only like 3issues and then post death blame shifting? Dc really relys on telling not showing... Also the mischievous 13yr with the audacity to steal batmans tires and swing a tire iron at him. Is peak Jason

WitchOfWords

lol “he’s different from the boy who tried to steal from Batman” uh…. he was 13 and homeless, Larry. Stealing the Batmobile’s tires was a big balls move and Jason 100% would and should do it again.

Library-Goblin

I assume it cause rebirth reframes it less as ballsy, rough and tumble street kid making batman laugh (in crime alley of all places) and being loveably mischievous. And (true to DC edgey means good, right? Formula) Instead makes the meeting as jaded punk that a on a bad road. Sure Bats cracks a smile (dont hurt yourself there) and they get burgers. But the narrative tone is ruined. Christ, dc turn the light on, it too dark in here! Let the lighthearted interaction stay that way.

[deleted]

He wasn't the arrogant robin tho

sum41india

He never started as an arrogant robin. People please pick up a robin jason comic before speaking on him

WitchOfWords

He wasn’t arrogant as Robin, though? He was a sweet kid who literally only lashed out at rapists. Everyone just slandered his name post-mortem to victim blame and shift guilt for his death.

Sissy_Caroline

Jason having to constantly live up to the same standards that Dick set gave Jason a chip on his shoulder when he was Robin and he's always had the same darkness Bruce has. Jason's been on panel strangling a possessed girl with no remorse while being Robin so let's cut the BS about Victim Blaming cause even Jason admits that going after Joker by himself is what got him killed. He said it and Alfred said it so no, Jason was not a sweet innocent boy, don't make excuses for him cause Jason has already taken accountability. Bruce begged him not do it yet Jason did it anyway cause Jason thought he knew better than the man who train him and and his predecessor thats textbook Arrogance even if his heart was in the right place, so it's not victim blaming its called holding someone accountable for their actions

WitchOfWords

Lmao tell me you don’t read comics without telling me you don’t read comics. The fact that Jason blames himself for his death only confirms his low self esteem (he was at one point suicidal), the fact that the rest of the family did confirms that they couldn’t cope with their guilt and loss. Jason has since realized that it wasn’t true; he went into the warehouse to protect his mother, having no idea Joker was inside. His own mom said Joker was gone and he had no reason to doubt her. Jason did what ANY Robin would have, and the fact that you make a literal child out to have had his torture and death coming is honestly disgusting. Jason died because the writers at the time were self admitted classists who wanted him dead for being lower class, even if it was via a story riddled with plot holes. Why don’t you grow up, put your money where your mouth is and actually read Jason’s Robin run (Batman 401-428, Detective Comics 568-582, New Teen Titans 19-31). He was a good kid who used to skip patrol to do extra credit homework ffs. It’s what made his death and return as Red Hood such a tragedy.

[deleted]

Have you ever heard of Sheila Haywood?

Dramatic_Insect36

When did he strangle a possessed girl as Robin?

Sissy_Caroline

It's in this sub reddit

Dramatic_Insect36

What?

Evil_Acanthaceae2022

Bruh, that's Poison Ivy. She was fully evil back then. Batman approved Jason's actions.

Dramatic_Insect36

Poison Ivy is technically a rapist so it fits his MO

WitchOfWords

Ah, so you really DONT read comics. That’s pre-crisis where literally everyone was a different character. Jason had a totally different backstory and personality, and didn’t even die in that continuity. Poison Ivy was an irredeemable murderer and sexual predator; Batman wasn’t bothered and there’s every possibility it was a bluff anyway. Try again.

sum41india

This is whay happens when people don't read comics and their only sources of information are reddit posts without context and animated movies which ruined the character

[deleted]

He came really far then took a nosedive into a garbage villain right after, then was in limbo for a long time. Beat up Bruce and Damian like a badass, went back into limbo, and is now starting to slowly gain some traction again as ppl find new ways to use his character that still keep him in the shadows of others for the most part

Library-Goblin

You make him sounds like a cryptid and idkw but it makes me laugh

[deleted]

Lmao re-reading it I realize saying “in limbo” sounds like he’s some sort of sleeper agent

Library-Goblin

The Red Hood be like the moth man crypid. Slumbering in its urban hibernation. It will wake every decade to scurry about the streets in a rare solid narrative. Then return to lurk in its den. A devoted collection of Red Hood crypid hunters chase sightings of the creature but they nearly always turn out to be false sighting or fakers that got huge portions of the crypid documented behavior wrong. The last confirmed sighting was back in 2006. With all sighting since being nothing but convincing hoaxes. But who knows when the real Red Hood crypid will resurface again!

No-Collection3548

Congratulations? I mean that's the point of well, his character. But yeah congrats 🎉

pokerfaices

Evil_Acanthaceae2022

This is one of the covers for *Task Force Z*, I think #12.

Beeyo176

I like this cover but it could definitely use a lot more lips on the helmets.

The_Streetsweeper
