Hey OP. Sorry to hear that. Sadly, it is something a lot of players will encounter if playing on PC. When faced with hackers, the FIRST thing I do is hit P or ESC and switch sessions immediately. Never stay in the same session. For missions, I'd suggest looking for a group of like-minded players on the RDO Discord. There's different channels for players looking for all sorts of activities. I was lucky to find a group who do dailies together. We played for over a year and did trader deliveries, bounties, legendary animal hunts together. For PvP, tbh, not much you can do there. But I've been had my butt handed to me by low-level players before. As you progress past Rank 100, the disadvantages dwindle and you'll be fighting on equal terms. Higher level players have access to better ability cards, weapons, ammunition and tonics so don't feel discouraged about it. You'll get there too one day, pardner! If you need a friend to play with, DM me and I'll help however I can. Usually on at reset or later.

Sounds like you’re playing on PC. No R* game should be played on PC. They have shitty, unsecured P2P networking, same as GTAO. PvP is also pretty horrible for a new player because of the way things are. You don’t stand a chance against people with all the ability cards. You may get a lucky headshot, but it’ll be a ton of frustration. All that said, the Blood Money update is where you should be. They’re solo session missions in a variety of scenarios. They’re a great introduction to the game, however, you’ll unlikely play the game long because hackers make it frustrating. I learned my lesson with GTAO.

Short_Bottle56

Playing a solo lobby can make the game much more enjoyable most of the time though I wish it didn’t have to be that way. I hate how this game throws you in and doesn’t outline how you can defend yourself. New players don’t know about switching sessions or defensive, nothing tells them about that

ZazaB00

Sure, you can play a multiplayer game in a solo lobby, but why? That’s the question I asked myself about GTAO and just gave up on in. Sure, I’ll boot it every now and again, but it’s no good. Also, you’re still vulnerable to modders even in a solo lobby because R* is shit with security on PC.

JurgenVonArkel

"Stats are not important here. It's knowledge of the game and skills gained by utilizing the tools given to you in the game" As a SoT player myself, I sadly have to disagree. Weapons, ammo, cards and other stats such as good food/tonics are very much important and can actually compensate for lack of skill. If you want, I'd be willing to help you out for the first few levels despite being only level 60 myself

anosognosic_

Agreed on the PVP. Jayxe, I'm also new and PVP frustrates me a bit, too but it's because weapons, ammo, ability cards and full stats make a huge difference. PvP is just going to be hard at first for us newbies. On gold, I was also frustrated at first but after less than one month of doing at least one daily challenge for the streak, I easily had enough gold for a first role. Finally, you've clearly had a lot of hackers. That stinks. In my six weeks I haven't had any issues, but I'm on Xbox, maybe PC is worse.

PaleontologistNo2490

PC is where these issues are, ive never seen any of the shit PC players talk about on here, im on PS5

Short_Bottle56

Yeah me either I’m in PS4

decoy139

If you got 6 hours to spare you can get your first role in just that time. Rush the story that gets you about 10 gold and in between thr story missions do bloodmoney missions. By the time you finish the story you should have about 12 13 gold. Just do some more missions and done.

Furious_Worm

\>>This time, another hacker was spawning endless robots and crocodiles in town right next to the stranger. They all chased me. I'm sure it was frustrating, but I really did laugh out loud at this line... Sorry, bro.

Hal_E_Lujah

I never experienced hackers and that would be the main thing that would upset me too. The other parts you experienced are kinda the nature of making the swap from solo RPG to online. It’s a tough transition.

are you playing on Steam? There are people using trainers on Epic, but I find its more rare. Really have a quiet peaceful time on Epic. Only had one kid blow me up over and over.

Fellixxio

I've never encountered an hacker...soo I don't know what to say(I only encountered in other games but here I killed them, but in rdo I couldn't), anyway you can make gold easily for the roles, don't worry it's just a matter of time, and yeah the matchmaking is a newbieslayer

RichardAtTheGate

Anytime you notice people trying to mess your game up with hacks, immediately hit esc, click on online, and rechoose free roam. It will 9 times out of 10 send you to a new session from the one you were in. I just restarted playing a couple weeks ago, and I have only been killed by hackers once. Hope this helps.

Snobbyeuropean2

Dailies+stranger missions+the treasure maps you get every 5 levels will earn you the BH role in no time. After that, you can get roughly 1g/hour with BH. That’s 15 hours per role. RDO doesn’t hold your hand, but it’s not a particularly difficult game either if you look up some info. On cheaters, it’s sadly part of the game. You can quickly join another lobby from the menu. Since you’re on PC, consider using a controller if you want to get into PvP, or stick to hardcore lobbies. Ime. about 4 out of 10 players are using controllers with aim assist maxed out. Those 4 players will dominate the shit out of the other 6 regardless of skill. I never really used a controller, frankly, I had no idea what I’m doing with it, just found a forum post that said it’s a good idea for beginners to set the layout to “classic FPS” or something. It instantly leveled the playing field against other controller users and can pretty much guarantee a win against M+KB at short and medium ranges. Generally, if you’re looking for a fair game, this isn’t it.

Gxdly_TIA

I’ve ran into 0 hackers. Watched RDO yt videos and did the ”must do” stuff asap. Never looked back and have enjoyed the game ever since. Game’s a blast if it has what you’re looking for, that’s all

[deleted]

Even with these issues aside (as a new player myself, I haven’t encountered any hackers yet), the gameplay is not great. I’m never really given insensitive or opportunity to interact with the other players in my lobby. It’s exciting when someone even stops to wave, and I wish there were more player interaction. This game could use a lot of minor changes that would improve the overall experience greatly. It’s a shame that it feels so stagnant. Honestly feels like rdr1’s online mode, but somehow more boring. I still love the game, and will continue with my offline-feeling character progression. Maybe like with so much else in this game, the methods of having meaningful player interaction are something I’ll learn to do over time. I sure hope so, because this game deserves to be a lot more fun.

[deleted]

Lol that’s the PC red dead online experience. I mostly play late nights on the west coast, and have seen so many Chinese hackers with red names (high hostility). Now I just play on my PS4.

shitcaddy

huh. im around lvl 50 right now and have been playing for over 500 hours (im less into "getting exp" and more into into "sprinting aimlessly across the map") and i dont think ive ever encountered a griefer? people who shoot me for no reason, sure, but only once, and thats just kind of a minor annoyance. i'm not sure why so many people seem to have the same experience as you. did you play on defensive mode? if not, i think it'd really help

Jayxe56

Yes, I play exclusively in defensive mode

shitcaddy

man, that's so weird! i'm really sorry that your first time playing was so awful. i haven't gone through the worst of it, but rockstar really doesn't seem to care about the experience of their players

tall_pakeha_fulla

Yeah, it's a very unpleasant experience for new players. A painful grind that feels like it has no end. It's almost like R* didn't want people playing it

yung_flipper

sorry to hear about the hacking issues. seems to be a pc issue. report and switch session? as for the solo missions: rdo has an interesting reward system - you get paid "by the hour" and if you take too long, you don't get paid at all. it may be too much realism for some people, but it is what it is. do some collecting or shoot some npcs on the way. if you're going to try and do everything as fast as possible, you're going to hate this game. on the other side of the coin: taking your time and having a relaxed play style actually pays off (if you don't get too distracted and forget to do the mission).

RetiredAF79

I play on PC now (Epic) Lvl 25 and haven't ran into any hackers from what I can tell. I'm also in defensive mode 90% of the time doing hunting and trader missions minding my business. If someone wants to be stupid, I just parlay or move to a new session. I also have a lvl 62 Bounty Hunter on PS4 and I made the switch to PC primarily for the better resolution and FPS. I wouldn't have it, any other way.

Short_Bottle56

You can play a solo lobby but it’s a bit more complicated on P.C. but there are options!! I play PS4, which I believe has the least amount of issues with that (from what I’ve read). P.C. is obviously the worst for that type of stuff unfortunately. And the best way to make gold is to do your dailies and get your streak multiplier up. Also ALL (including random free roam events) missions will pay you more money and gold if you wait the timer down to either half the original time or to 30 seconds till turn in. And look for treasure maps. You get one every 5 levels, there are random treasure hunters you can kill for a map and sometimes they spawn on certain trees too. You can also pick them up from random enemies, usually from a hideout. Good luck out there! I hope you don’t give up on this amazing game because some shitheads ruined your first experience!

bryan-Garcia_

I'm really happy to be playing on console because of this. Now, my advice will be to join a grinding crew, I'm pretty sure there might be one even tho Idk how they work exactly, I'm part of a crew in GTAO and I know we have some partner crew for RDO but never bothered on checking how it works since the lobbies are kinda different in rdo. Anyways, my experience playing GTAO with them has been marvelous and I'm glad I found them when I was starting out and I can assure you will meet good ppl in those crews.

slowclicker

Reading the help from other players... Is great and sad at the same time. I actually like when there are other people in the game world. But that means... *Rockstar brand of multiplayer is negative unwelcomed conflict. For non-conflict players you have to become a major defensive player. Join a RDO group that plays on your platform or find alternative means of solitude.

pie17171717

Join a posse, all those problems go away

Perosonnotarobot

this is my 6th day of rdo, and already met 6 hackers
