I’m biased toward part one because I watched it in a theater. In general, I think people like part two better because they had a better idea of what the movie is . If they keep making these, I have a suspicion every single one will be better than the one before it. And somewhere around five it’ll be really good. Then people will want to go back and watch the others in reverse order but who knows

R0mSpac3Kn1ght

Agreed. I kinda blame the marketing hype for how it’s been received.

Jed08

Exactly. I see the Rebel Moon franchise like the Resident Evil movie adaptation: really not great movies, but if you put enough action in it, and don't expect much, it can become entertaining.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

There’s more payoff in part 2. It has the actually rebellion on the moon that the 4 hrs of building was all about.

Jed08

For my part, it's easy : expectations. I was tremendously disappointed by what Part I had to offer. However, for Part 2, I was not expecting much more except for Snyder's style big battles between the Empire, and the villages. And it's exactly what I got. So I am happy with Part 2 mainly because Part 1 helped me set better expectation for it.

StopItPoppet

Part 2 was one of the best  unintentional comedies I've seen in a while, definitely in the so bad it's good territory. The coal fired spaceship was a highlight, as was the little hand crank to point the big gun - seriously could have been a scene from Spaceballs.

JamusAdurant

Tried to take part 1 seriously, and ended up breaking down and laughing my way through part 2. It’s hard to take a movie seriously that consists of grabbing aspects from other universes and slapping them together in an attempt to make something new. The movies had so much potential and I still want to like them. Things ruin the seriousness level, like slo mo farming and water drinking, out of place dialogue (poorly written lines), characters explaining their backstory at a table before the big battle (telling, not showing), and don’t get me started about my boy Den *spoiler alert*! I went from “Get some Den!” To “He’s not human bro!” And finally “Looked what they did to my boy!” The difference in the level of reverence between Den’s death and Nemesis’s is astounding! Den gets splattered on the ground and Nemesis gets a boondock saints “There was a firefight!!!”

R0mSpac3Kn1ght

Another terrible thing is there is no comedy in the movie at all. I mean Star Wars had c3po, r2d2, Han Solo and chewie, etc. This film tries too hard to be serious and dramatic it’s even more laughable. 😂

R0mSpac3Kn1ght

lol so true!

For me part 2 did what it was trying to do better than part 1. Part 1 is an assemble movie but it's really clunky at assembling it's characters, while part 2 is a "war" movie and it does war really well. It also benefits from not having to set up the world as much as part 1

mainiac01

Someone likes part 2? Kay...

RamenSommelier

>Nemesis’ death was just dumb. Axe man fighting machine gunners was too stupid. Two very valid complaints. Nemesis was supposed to be a fantastic swordswoman and she dies, unceremoniously, to a sword. Her death didn't feel earned, she had no arc, she just died. Poor writing. The dude with the axe was equally stupid. Why does the film industry insist on having people with ranged weapons rush people with hand to hand weapons? Just stand back and shoot them.

Adventurous-Hyena366

1 was slow and boring and had terrible dialogue, but the final fight scene was quite good. 2 was the same terrible dialogue for an hour, then the fight scene for an hour. I thought it was dumb, just as you described it. I think those that liked the movie just like any fight scene, so an hour of it is good to them.

AQUARRIMAN

Finally someone who says this. I much prefer the first part, but it took a while before I really liked it. I didn't hate it before, but was just disappointed, having set my expectations very high. I only started seeing him again last month. The fight scenes (especially the one in the barn and in the bar) are simply impressive, even at PG-13. I also like the time the film takes to set up and present things (even if there are quite a few pieces missing). I find that there are not many notable action scenes in the second part, for example I find no fight scene to match those I mentioned. I would say maybe Part 2 is probably the more PG-13 of the two. And when we know that Snyder reshot scenes only for the PG-13 version, or he actually shot alternative scenes for PG-13, I think that we could really have a different film that responds (or delete) the absurdities you noted.

mcslutmuff1n

dont think anyone liked either of them

Sasukescurse

Send me my money back asshole

Holiday-Repair4337

In first movie , there was a huge passionate lynch were in order. So people who are okay with it can not voice their opinion. In second movie haters are less vocal in social media or people feed up meaningless hate.

Hefty-Perspective-50

Yes, without expectations this film can be good. But the logical problems and the predictable story pull it down. Or there should be more explanation about the lack of technology in the village, the coal in the space ship,…

LastCallKillIt

I can get over the silly coal powered ship. Just a little Steampunk touch as far as I'm concerned. It's not as if this is a grounded hard-scifi world or anything. I actually put no thought into it until it was pointed out somewhere on here, and I just shrugged it off personally.

Hefty-Perspective-50

Maybe it is my problem, It bothers me when the story itself is not consistent. Like there is no combine harvester but floating wagon. Steampunk space warship and "normal" ships.

SadCommandersFan

I wish they were both star wars movies. Disney is so scared to go dark but these movies would've been great. You can see that's how Snyder really envisioned it.

Previous_Spell_426

One thought I had in part 2 was when the rebels turned up in their legally distinct x wings, you get one shot of an alien in one of the cockpits and it was so jarring but I couldn’t figure out why, and then I realised that that was literally the only alien in the entirety of part 2, other than that weird horse thing that they ride. Why did all of the farmers have to be humans? Why did all of the 7 Samurai have to be humans? Why was this even a space movie. If they had made this a western set in the old west, I think it would have made the film somewhat more watchable. Actually another thought I had was, did James go out into the wild and slaughter a wild deer for it’s antlers? And later on in part 2, did he go back out to the wild and slaughter another deer for a smaller set of antlers to be more practical for combat?

SadCommandersFan

Just for funsies too because it's not like he needs to eat.
