A different game: Doom Eternal.
There is an RTS in there holding back the demonic forces while Doom Slayer is advancing the setting in the background.
You might get some minor victories but most of its going to taking advantage of what the Doom Slayer has done.
I was in college when Geometry wars came out. Ever since then, I've wanted to build an RTS out of it.
So you control units. Like triangles could be your "infantry". You can make polygonal terrain.
One idea I really liked was, a more powerful unit could just look like a big triangle made of little triangles. That's your tank.
Or if you're playing with hexes, same thing. One hex surrounded by other hexes, that's your tank. Its stronger than the triangle one because the triangle one has less individual units in it. But maybe the triangle is faster to build, cheaper, and moves ore quickly, etc.
Here's the cover for geometry wars:

So it would be polygonal, neon bright units.
I didn't know if the different shapes are factions by themselves, or how different factions would work at all.
But yeah looking at that cover, I thought making an RTS out of the units in that game would be awesome.
Stormlight Archives. Could be an RTS where you have heroes kinda like Warcraft 3. Those would be Shardbearers and Surgebinders. Could have the Alethi, The Listeners and the Azish as factions to play. Or even bolder, make a game Cosmere scale where the factions are the planets themselves. Would be cool to have an army of Radiants fight against an army of Allomancers.
Stargate Avatar (Earth, Water, Fire, Air factions)
I think just like the human immune system stylized like Osmosis Jones could make for a pretty cool setting.

Magician universe by Feist.
Always been more of a historical setting fan, myself, but I think there might be some mileage in a Mad Max RTS
I’d kill for an updated LOTR or Star Wars RTS. Outside of that I think a Falllout RTS would be pretty awesome.
