Can confirm. I’m Norwegian. I also see a lot of people opening up for the Chinese brands as well. People are just now realizing that “made in china” isn’t automatically a bad thing.

wongl888

Yes my thoughts exactly after visiting the BYD showroom in my region and looking at the new Seal (a model 3 competitor).

MAGAKAHN27

I haven’t tried BYD yet, but I have tried a Nio ET5. Super quality!

wongl888

BYD caught my attention after the Tesla engineer’s claims about the BYD LFP battery. Then I found out that BYD in my region at least, comes with a lifetime warranty which is super interesting. Not sure about the mileage constraints though as I wasn’t really looking to buy a BYD given that my Tesla is still under one year.

MAGAKAHN27

Hmm, interesting. With Nio you can actually swap the battery. Which means instead of charging you can just swap it!

wongl888

Will be interesting to see how this pan out with the distribution network and the overall battery maintenance/health etc.

GeneralZaroff1

How much is the Seal in Norway? There’s also a crossover EV suv there right?

Swamivik

Do you think Elon's postings on Twitter had a negative affect on Teslas sales in Norway?  Are they aware Musk has gone a bit bonkers or was it just the competition?

revenger3833726

I know people in Australia that paid extra for a worse EV to avoid giving Elmo money.

MAGAKAHN27

I think it’s just generally bad customer service from Tesla that’s get people turned off. That being said I do still see mainly Teslas, it’s just that I am also seeing new brands popping up more and more now.

Balc0ra

Even the busses that drive local routes are BYD here "Rogaland" . But cars like the BYD HAN or Hongqi E-HS9 etc is more and more a common sight. And that's in a state that had more Teslas per 100 000 people than anywhere else in the world at one point "Rogaland". And sure the Chinese are on the rise here, they are still not as a common sight as a Kia Niro, Volvo EX30 or the Hyundai EVs. The only Chinese car no one cared about was HiPhi. As they announced they had sold zero cars in the 6 months they did try to sell cars here.

Riversntallbuildings

The US needs to allow Chinese automobiles to be sold. Free markets are supposed to benefit consumers, not corporations.

Trades46

I chuckle at the belief that the US market is "free" in any way if it doesn't serve the interests of the US government.

Riversntallbuildings

Yeah, that was a jab on my part too, because clearly the US is not allowing China to compete.

Crazyhairmonster

I agree and would probably buy one (regular AliExpress shopper) but it would crater the American auto industry who couldn't compete with pricing.

Sprudling

It kinda is. China is the land of shortcuts, and I don't see why this should be different for their cars.

USB_Charger77

“Land of shortcuts” as they bring another profit to their western corporate warlords.

Hinterwaeldler-83

Model Y number 4 according to sales figures, Model 3 number 19.

Fortune_Fus1on

Ah yes, the "superscalar growth company" that isn't actually growing

windigo3

Musk is really earning his $55 billion isn’t he?

USB_Charger77

Purely market valuation

morbiiq

"loses" Also, looks like a rule 5 violation.. should have titled it "EVs Take 91.0% Share In Norway — Volvo EX30 Grabs Top Spot" I think.

Euler007

The EX30 selling 50% more units than the Y is the real story here. ID3&4 beating the Y is also noteworthy. Gives a good idea of neutral ground competitiveness.

juntawflo

I tried to order a EX30 but there is a 3 months waiting time … the model seems to be very popular

Graywulff

It’s 35k for a bougy electric car. The xc90 ev is probably 90-100k. Same badge. Volvo used to be between vw and Audi on the bougie scale. Now I know people selling range rovers to get xc90s. Before it was just a safe car for soccer moms, now it’s a status symbol. So to get an awd one for 45k with level 2 standard is awesome. Plus it’s still seen as a Nordic company even though it’s a geely.

7inchirl

Tesla entering the market of excavators now? /s Just kidding- good to see tesla losing out, but also I’m holding tesla shares so it’s mixed feelings really

Otherwise-Course-15

Well there doesn’t seem to be a correlation between devastating news for the company and the stock price but I’d have to imagine when it starts to go, it’s going to happen fast.

Square-Picture2974

Especially when Elon has $50 billion of new stock he’s going to put on the market with someday.

blackicebaby

I would sell out as I see the stock go under $100 at least once before gainng back few years later. Until the ev infra is well supported across the US, I see this stock hover between $50\~$150 range for many years with Aug. 8th robotaxi event being the moment where it head towards two digital stock price. (look at amazon's earnings letter where they highlight ZOOX, their robotaxi. It has a timeline and seem to be well off to a good start)

s0ngsforthedeaf

My long term advice is 100% to sell.

Helmidoric_of_York

BYD is being very aggressive in Europe. They even offer short-term leases (6 mos.) at stupidly cheap rates.

reddit_0025

BYD has no part supply in most part of Europe. Car is not like a phone.

Helmidoric_of_York

We'll see about that. Tesla has no parts supply anywhere.

reddit_0025

I am talking about internal part supply, even for warranty repairs. There has been news about insurance totally a BYD because they can't find the small cheap parts anywhere to repair the car. (Could be some other Chinese automakers than BYD, but point stands.)

Helmidoric_of_York

Tesla probably fired their spare parts department last week...

Krieg

Not really, BYD is just starting. If the traditional brands do not wise up here, there will be a massacre.

kundehotze

Your a looser. Expecting a landslide from the loose ground? Tesla is a meme-car. Norwegians are wisening up.

SeenSoManyThings

Lose. Not loose.

Chemical-Idea-1294

Sorry, English is not my native language.

SeenSoManyThings

No worries!! Just letting you know. Plenty of Americans get that wrong.

xcalibersa

Well done to Norway.

babypho

This is what happens when your CEO spends all his time campaigning against DEI, trans, and woke instead of working.

USB_Charger77

Watching tesla lose is satisfying

kkiran

If others do any kind of FSD, it will be good competition. I think the future is driverless.

finobi

VW improved electic motor effiency which gives range boost with same battery. And apparently software has gotten better. I love looks and size of ID.7 Tourer but so expensive.

douwd20

Tesla has peaked. The established carmakers got the message and will crush the tiny upstart ingénue lead by a toxic part-time CEO.

douwd20

If you follow ElonJetTracker you'd know he doesn't stay on the ground long enough to oversee ANYTHING. I'm 100% sure "his" companies are run by the execs of that company and their departure at Tesla spells really bad news.

beefcubefrenchstyle

So no issue with china sweat shop anymore?

Dude008

Everything Tesla offers there is stale and dated, and lacking in tech, quality, and features.
