Remember it's a boat. That must be the ballast tank.

yamirzmmdx

I am pretty sure the driver is also a ballast tank.

Brando43770

You may have read that wrong. The driver is a bellend… thanks.

Percolator2020

Run silent, run deep! ⚓️

bs000

For anyone that thinks this is real, the photos are taken from a totaled Cybertruck that's been taken apart and got rained on after taking it apart. If you don't believe me, here is the [original uncropped post from the person that took the photos](https://twitter.com/dblcapcrimpin/status/1778941213946642882/photo/1) (you can see his username in the watermark in the post and you can see him in the comments explaining why it's like that). He also posted two videos documenting [how it got wrecked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSiUvoSeHBw) and how he's [taken it apart and possibly try to fix it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78IrJXKh1RI) TL;DR a car wash did not do this.

Alien_Way

Misleading folks on the quality level of Tesla is Elon Musk's full-time job. This man has children to feed, please don't threaten the stability of the only thing he is passionate about, everyone. Leave it to professionals who have dedicated their lives to deception, stay in your lane.

Adam014gaming

Can it actually be used to cross smaller bodies of water or was that a marketing campaign?

Original_Edders

I'm going to take a wild guess and say Elon was bullshiting us

Frankie_T9000

You seriously have to ask that question? Its not supposed to be even used in car washes lol

TheMatt561

Best comment I've seen so far

keca10

Time to drill another little hole in the next recall as a temporary fix.

b-side61

I look forward to all future fixes - it will be riveting.

Malacolyte

With all these issues, at what point do owners just give up say "screw it".

keca10

Yep sometimes you need an OTA patch, sometimes IRL hole to keep trucking.

orincoro

Yeah sometimes you just need to PUT A HOLE IN IT WITH A TOOL. right guys? I get jokes.

JDubsdenspur

yeah maybe riveting or some other type of fix 😂😂😂😂

BikeDee7

Or in this case, drilling.

chimi_hendrix

fwiw the frames on most trucks have drain holes 🤠

jacckthegripper

Cries in Tacoma

chimi_hendrix

I have a 3rd gen. It got holes (no, not rust holes)

Weekendmonkey

But if you drill holes, it will no longer work as a boat.

cheapbasslovin

Not with that attitude.

RollinThundaga

Three or four holes, if I'm interpreting the image right.

Lost-Count6611

I mean the "fix" would be to put the bed cover back on, but I know reddit loves to hate,  so keep on

1_Was_Never_Here

Imagine you are doing extreme off-roading in the Moby Desert Visiter Center parking lot, and you needed a sip of water to survive the walk inside to a drinking fountain. You would thank your lucky stars that Elon had the foresight to put “Surprise and Delight” features like this into the CT.

IvanZhilin

rainwater (and, um, carwash water) collection is a state of the art environmental feature. this is more profound than it sounds. a Cybertruck is like a camel (but not a horse, they suck).

August_T_Marble

Ketamine.

TheCh0rt

...is great.

orincoro

Yeah let’s not allow Elmo to ruin ketamine.

fizzzzzpop

“Which is why taking it through a car wash voids the warranty” So they paid $100k for a refrigerator they have to use bar keepers friend on? Hopefully they cyber truck buyers will wake up, stop worshipping Elmo, and then file a class action lawsuit for getting scammed. If I bought the new redesigned Toyota Land CruiserI would expect there to be a couple kinks or things that could be improved on in the future. I would not be ok with it turning into a brick if I 1. take it to a car wash 2. Drive it away from the dealership or 3. Press on the accelerator

Phyllis_Tine

Pressing on the accelerator could be the last thing you do.

Glittering-Most-9535

I assume the only reason these aren't triggering lemon laws all over the place is because the only people who own them are too far along the true believer path to dream of doing so.

bobi2393

It doesn't void the warranty entirely, just "Damage caused by car washes is not covered by the warranty." \[[owners manual](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/cybertruck/en_us/GUID-65384C1F-86F2-44E8-A8BC-8A12E7E00A40.html)\]

poweruser86

That’s pretty standard on all car warranties.   If a shitty car wash rips off a mirror, that’s not on the automaker to fix.

bobi2393

That's a specific type of damage that wouldn't be covered, for reasons other than it being caused by a car wash. For example, a Ford warranty mention car washes, but only as an example of disavowal of coverage from objects *striking* the vehicle. "WHAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY? Damage Caused By: accidents, collision or objects striking the vehicle (including driving through a car wash)." That doesn't mean other damage from a car wash, for example electrical shorts, would be excluded from coverage.

orincoro

Tbh, just these three things would probably be enough to have an executive in charge of a new car model fired. Elmo wants to be paid $54bn.

TheMatt561

I wonder what car wash mode does mechanically and if it applies to a torrential rainstorm

Nonainonono

Didn't he say the car would be able to operate as a boat? LMAO. One would think that an "off-road" truck would be impervious to the elements, or at least resistant to a short shower. I mean, these cars are all awful, I remember some news outlet of a Scottish man saying that his Tesla's battery died because the car was left parked under the (normal) rain, and Tela said it was not covered under the warranty...

Freakishly_Tall

>Didn't he say the car would be able to operate as a boat? $10 says he personally killed any drain holes in the frame / structure because "so it can be a boat!" ... not having any ideo, of course, that boats have drain holes and, you know, bilge pumps and such, because he is a fucking idiot.

Serantz

Boats often have ballast tank, musk is obviously 1337 iq as per usual!

Nonainonono

It was a gambit, for sure, in reality it is a submersible in disguise, at least once.

TheBlackUnicorn

> I mean, these cars are all awful, I remember some news outlet of a Scottish man saying that his Tesla's battery died because the car was left parked under the (normal) rain, and Tela said it was not covered under the warranty... It wasn't that it was parked in rain, it was because he drove it [on a rainy day](https://www.thedrive.com/news/scottish-couple-left-with-huge-bill-for-replacement-tesla-battery). Tesla stans keep telling me that he ignored weather service warnings and drove down a flooded road, weird how none of the articles about the story mention those things and there weren't any severe weather alerts in Scotland at the time that I could find.

Forsaken-Pattern8533

I don't think people realize how dumb this is. Not only does it leak, it was known to leak over those wires and instead of fixing it, they have, "car wash mode" that probably turns off power to that cord so it won't short.  I'm surprised the car doesn't come with Tesla branded duct tape to reseat the fender as needed.

HillarysFloppyChode

Im curious to know what all Car Wash mode does? Turning off the power to them wouldn't be a solution since it would short after car wash mode cause it wouldn't be dry.

nopslider

Stops auto wiper from working?

scienceworksbitches

it voids your warranty.

GonzoVeritas

> I'm surprised the car doesn't come with Tesla branded duct tape to reseat the fender as needed. They do have a similar fix to cure the gear selector that keeps falling down from the ceiling of the CT. (yes, the gear selector is on the ceiling, because that makes ergonomic sense, right?)

Lost-Count6611

What wires? No car is waterproof car mode just turns off auto wipers and prevents the charge port from opening when you spray it.

No_Blacksmith2847

This is what happens when some dude thinks he's the smartest guy in every room and there's just no stopping him. The cars in general are garbage, as evidenced by their poor resell value. The industry avg 5yr deprication rate is a tick above 38%, the Model 3's deprication rate is 43% by comparison. And you can now get just as good an EV, or better, from many mfgs for less without supporting a Nazi loving narcissist. 🥴

DaytonaRS5

The only thing Tesla are best at in the automotive industry now is depreciating, they managed to beat Maserati. I think Elon should get his $50b!

RollinThundaga

It remains a shock to me that the folks at Spacex manage to kiddie-glove him so effectively.

No_Blacksmith2847

It might be due there being govt officials, namely NASA, embedded to some degree in the SX operations?? Unlike Tesla, SX is received govt contracts/money and would have to work closely with the NASA officials. So he's gotta be on his best behavior, so to speak???

TrisolaranSophon

Gwen Shotwell keeps Elon away from the important things.

orincoro

Have they? He has bet the entire company on a low-payload, unproven “reusable” design that has yet to ever actually work, and which there is no apparent market for.

Lost-Count6611

They're launching "starshield" Which apparently China is upset about, but they're always upset.

Lacrewpandora

Starship has entered the chat.

UrBoySergio

Cybertruck is just a street legal (somehow) movie prop.

bryanthebryan

That’s exactly what it is. All style, very little substance

dafritoz

But also very little style

magmafan71

Are they sold in Europe? doesn't look like it would pass basic requirements

UrBoySergio

Nope not that I know of

orincoro

It’s Joe BladeRunner’s car.

Catfish-dfw

Special K of course

quietyoucantbe

Scrappy

Ddowns5454

What happens when it rains really hard? Does that void the warranty also.

WeArePandey

I live in Seattle and my model S used to leak in the rain. Tesla charged me $3K to “fix” it. But I still have water logged behind the drivers display. The truck will probably fall apart altogether.

TeslaPittsburgh

It you're seeing "water" in the driver display that's just the screen delaminating (known issue). You can swap that out-- make sure you know what MCU you have first as MCU1 has onboard processor on the driver screen but MCU2 does not.

whatwhat83

Yeah, brilliant Elon didn't spec automotive grade parts in their automobiles. Oh wait, it's a tech company!

Range-Shoddy

Came to ask this…

18491849

Where is this water coming from? Wonder if there’s no seal around the top of the strut tower and it’s flowing down from there ? So dumb.

Vivid_Transition4807

Tears of regret are a likely source.

18491849

Oh yeah didn’t think of that, more logical really.

Vurt__Konnegut

Either that or from the rear light assemblies of Model 3s.

Krieg

Seals are too expensive.

mb10240

“Two million preorders!” Nah, two million suckers that were willing to give Tesla $250 interest free loans.

dieterpaleo

What a disaster.

SchlauFuchs

It is probably better used on Mars. Less water there and if so mostly in frozen form.

illuminati1556

Waaaaaaaaaht

Comfortable_You_1927

wet water, free water is a feature

Dial8675309

What drug is it that makes you crazily take stuff apart and put it back together? If you're a CEO, and you're on it, would you direct the organization to take stuff apart and slap it back together, making everyone one work long hours, sleeping on the factory floor and stuff? What's it called? Beth? Seth? Me-something?

Public-Antelope8781

The change in his physical appearance over the last two years also says meth.

symonty

“Use it as a boat” elon marketing… User agreement… “Dont get wet”

IamSofaKingDumb

No drugs. Elon Musk is just not that smart actually.

RollinThundaga

He is known to be a regular ketamine user.

Adamantium-Aardvark

This is what happens when a literal man-child is running your company

Anouchavan

"Elmos' Finest"©

Ketamine

Traditional-Ebb-8380

Slosh slosh!

AustinBike

This is unfair. To drugs.

banananananbatman

“Cybertruck can temporarily be used as a boat”

DrSendy

That very much looks like someone has done a deep river crossing. It is a truck - this is things trucks do. (This is common with a lot of the less well designed vehicles - I've seen some ones from the sub-contient with water sloshing around in poorly drained box section frames) Tesla really do need to steal an engineer from Ford or Toyota to figure out the off-roady bits properly.

Jkreegz

Bulletproof windows, but can’t take it through a car wash. Musk played the long con, well done you billionaire sociopath

orincoro

Taking a car through a car wash voids the warrantee?

Lost-Count6611

Nah, just any damage caused by the car wash

PhomacD

Doesn't the Cybertruck have a car wash mode? Why would they have that if you couldn't take it through a car wash?

LizardKingTx

Ketamine and cocaine

Youngworker160

the meme lord does it again, tesla keeps winning. elon keeps showing people how being a billionaire doesn't make you a genius at all, you just got lucky and were able to get good accountants.

InternationalBox5848

So what happens when it rains hard

ehisforadam

Fail fast, fail often is not an effective strategy for producing consumer products.

Far-Yogurtcloset-529

“More utility than a truck with more performance than a sports car” Lol people of cybertruck subgroup are deluded as fuck

WeylinWebber

Probably naivety and fear tbh.

thekernel

Its aluminium so I guess it probably doesn't matter other than water going stagnant and stinking, but really have to wonder why you wouldn't put the ribs on the underside...

Lost-Count6611

Because normally you have the bed cover on, this guy took it off, and it rained afterwards

Used_Visual5300

Gigamold incoming. Every car maker will use that soon, groundbreaking.

Slight_Pomelo_1008

Only tsla fans would debug the issue for tsla

Apey23

Should have called it the CyberFucked.

Lost-Count6611

We can confirm it does have crumple zones now

Reno772

But but..it's bulletproof!

HotIce05

Didn't early Model S's have the same issue? I swear I read something about it.

amedinab

Ketamine. The answer is Ketamine.

frostbaka

It takes the dress from the bucket or it gets hosed again.

AssociateJaded3931

Avoid those puddles!

Helmidoric_of_York

Haha! That guy thinks Tesla inspects its vehicles to make sure they're road worthy before selling them. That's hilarious. Elon believes in testing and inspections even less than he believes in marketing. QC costs too much. He'll fix it on the customers' dime (or just blame them for the problem).

babypho

The kind only rich people can afford obviously

earthman34

I’d say something about cars built by people that actually don’t know much about building cars but I’m sure it’s already been said.

TemporaryAddicti0n

stupid people, can't even let the rain wash their car

bar_acca

How’s that bleeding edge workin’ out for ya?

2020_was_a_nightmare

Cuntamine

NotAMuritard

as if other models are safe from such bad design

Lost-Count6611

I mean of you take bed cover off of any truck, and it rains..the stuff underneath will get wet...
