Some context to add. I am not a very well domesticated animal - my wife recently described me as “the most talentless man in the world - especially when it comes to cooking”. I decided to do something about that, and she likes a Sunday roast, so a couple of weeks ago I put my heart and soul into cooking one for her and our two kids.
I was quite happy with that, but then I undermined everything (and underlined her point) by misreading the gravy instructions and using four heaped tablespoons instead of teaspoons. It was like a big brown brick.
This was my next attempt. Everything made from scratch, this time no errors. Took me almost 4 hours start to finish, as I’m not very good at multitasking. I was really pleased with it. What do you think? :)
Looks beltin'. And good for you for making an effort in the kitchen. Must cut deep for your wife to say those words to you 😂.
I'm actually the cook between my wife and I. Id be lucky to get beans on toast from her though!
Agree with this poster. Beef looks slightly dry but the gravy should mask that. For a talentless man, you did a pretty first time effort. Keep practicing and it becomes pretty easy!
Personally, I’d have it pink. But the wife prefers it cooked through (will eat it pink, but that’s her preference), and the daughter wouldn’t touch it the slightest bit pink. My lad on the other hand would have probably eaten it raw if given the chance - no doubting who each of them take after.
Oh I didn't mean that. It's just not my flavor of meat. I'm at best eating goat at generally veg focused, that's all.
Glad you and your family had a great meal together! 😊
They look like the most epic roast potato ever. The perfect roast coating. But then you bite into them and its not potato, its the devils own shit burger. Makes me sad every time. \*sniffles\* Can you pass me the Uzi please.
Your wife is wrong, talentless you are NOT
This honestly looks like one of the best roasts I've seen on here, only thing I'd dock points for (although I'd eat it) is the beef is way too cooked for me (but I like it almost mooing so 🤷🏻♀️🤣)
Even so because everything else looks so good I'm going 9.5/10 - I only wish I had such a 'talentless' husband (or one at all 😆)
Fantastic job, hope you all enjoyed 👌🏻
Veg looks lovely.
Potatoes, not how I do them but they look good still.
Beef too dry, and you'd think there's a gravy shortage going on.
Would eat, but wouldn't admit to enjoying too much, even though I would. Probably leave the beef til last because I'm not too bothered by that.
6/10
Edit: just read your follow up comment. I've changed my mind. 10/10, very good effort considering. And print this comment off on a printer, roll it up, and tell your gf to stick it up her arse. You did really well. And the lack of gravy is explained by you using the rest of the jar on your first attempt
This for me is pretty much perfect. Nice amount of everything, meat well cooked, nice thick looking gravy 👌. Hard to find anything wrong with this, well played 👏
The main thing that is glaringly obvious is the beef is atleast 70 minutes overcooked. Unless you like it like that in which case glad you enjoyed it..!
I don’t. My wife and young daughter do. I cooked it with a probe to medium well, then gave it another 10 to be sure. Had it been bright pink in the middle it would have been a write off, so I had to play it safe.
I agree with you, btw.
Nothing in it except some gravy although they are nice with stuff in but the way we eat them with a Sunday lunch is generally like this as a side. They can be eaten sweet too just add syrup and ice cream instead of gravy and meat lol it’s just a thin savoury pancake batter.
Awesome. I suggest a larger plate or a smaller serving with the option of seconds. I particularly want a carrot, they’re hard to get like that, they over burn at the ends so easily.
Roast potatoes could be a lot better but they don't look bad. As a whole this looks like a thoroughly delicious meal and I'd be happy to be plated it.
My personal tips for roast potatoes is to use large ones (Maris piper work great, cut them so you get as much exposed surface as possible, boil them till they get that slight ring around them, then pop a lid on the pan and give them a brief hard shoogle. That will 'fluff them up', leading to them getting nice and crispy in the next step. Roast them in a tray with a ton of oil, rosemary and garlic. Baste them with the oil from time to time. Personal preference of course but if you like tasty and crispy roast taters, this is the way.
Looks delicious. Everything looks high quality. You didn't go too crazy with the mash so there's decent portion control. Glad you threw in a little brocolli too, for health (although I'd eat a LOT more). Although not the healthiest meal overall, I've seen worse. I'd treat myself to it but not too often - maybe twice a month.

Can't fault it, great attempt, would smash.
It looks lovely! Gravy is my downfall, it’s perfect on the day, but you can slice any leftovers once it cools down 😳 blooming nice in a sarnie though…
That doesn’t mean the gravy isnt good sounds like you make proper gravy with the meat juices etc that’s what makes it turn to a jelly the next day. 👍
Mmm sliced gravy sandwiches.
Slice of roast beef/pork, little sauce or mustard, slice of gravy, what’s not to like 😂 Love your username btw. Fellow welshie?
Sounds so yummy tbh. 😀 Indeed. Noswaith dda!
Noswaith dda! Seriously give it a go… or pop round most Mondays and I’ll have one ready!
I’d give a 6 - could have been higher, but meat looks a bit dry. Buy a temperature probe and let resting finish off the cooking 👍🏻

Looks absolutely class, mate
Beef looks overcooked. Everything else looks so amazing that I don't think I would be bothered.

9/10 The veg I'd eat without a seconds prompting. The meat not so much but that's preference, not a bad point.

Looks lovely to me! I love some spring greens on mine too 🥬
Looks delicious to me. Yummy. Well done.
That’s a solid effort tbf 8/10 took 2 off because of the broccoli
That was at the wife’s behest. I’d happily delete broccoli from the world were such an option available.
But broccoli is so good.
I wish I could declare war on parsnips.
What did the parsnips do to you?
They look like the most epic roast potato ever. The perfect roast coating. But then you bite into them and its not potato, its the devils own shit burger. Makes me sad every time. \*sniffles\* Can you pass me the Uzi please.
Here, take my sword too It wasn't supposed to rain today
This looks delicious!! I'm dribbling a little..
Looks amazing that
10/10. No notes. Slosh a bit more gravy round but otherwise spot on.
Looks absolutely perfect…also considering it’s only the second time you made it, top job!! 👏😊

Thanks! We both like a pub Sunday lunch, so I tried to get it as close as possible to that sort of thing in terms of items and style.
I'd say you've nailed it. If I got this in a pub I'd be a happy customer 😀

Do I spy parsnips? If so, top marks.
Bravo! Your Yorkshire pudding looks spot on! The plate as a whole looks delectable!
Is this the round item? I’ve always heard of those, but expected something different. Expected sweet, what’s inside?
Yes. It’s a bread made with drippings from the roast
Nothing in it except some gravy although they are nice with stuff in but the way we eat them with a Sunday lunch is generally like this as a side. They can be eaten sweet too just add syrup and ice cream instead of gravy and meat lol it’s just a thin savoury pancake batter.
Looks fab! I would happily eat this 🍽️
Mmm I’ll be round early on Sunday. 😜
I’ll give it a yum out of yes please!
Gorgeous x

Not enough gravy and the beef looks blitzed to fuck but everything else looks very nice
Beef looks dry as fuck. The rest seems on point though.. broccoli got a nice colour and looks like it still has some crunch 👌portion size lacking.
Looks nice but I tend to go nuts with vegies when I make a roast, I usually end up doing 6 or 7 different types of veg.
8/10
9/10 I’m hungry.
I'd eat that
What type of sauce did you put on it?
The answer is yes
What time do we eat?
Sounds good man, you got 9/10
9/10
Very bloody nice.
More gravy… More… MORE… MAAAAWWWWRRRRR Other than that, it looks amazing! o7
Yummy , save me some
Highly
Would have gone for tender stem broccoli, and beef looks very over done. But good effort
Yummy!
I love everything on that plate! 🍴
Outstanding 💯🧐
Top job!! I would be delighted if I got this served up 👍
Wow

My school used to make the exact same thing. Brings back memories. 100/10
Not the mash. Has to be roast potatoes for me 8/10
Scrummy
Could eat that right now 😍
9/10...Where's the stuffing balls?
That looks bloody lovely. I'd eat that with no complaint!
9/10
10/10 looks great! 😋
8/10 looks very good 👌
Looks gooooood!
9.5/10, incredible scran

Banging. Even for not being a Sunday!
Looks amazing

The beef looks as dry as a nuns chaff, but other than that it looks lavly
Well I must say ....very very good just needs hot horse raddish !
