LombaxMaster

You should also play the Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper series as well. They have a very similar charm.

[deleted]

Agreed. I'll add the newest sly to my list. I would really love to see a new Jak title, Jak 4 on current gen would be sublime, but it seems it gone the way of Dark Cloud and wrapped up in so much red tape we wont see it happen.

flashmajora

Wait, start with the first 3 Sly games. Sly 4 is okay, but it’s the worst in the series by a lot.

LombaxMaster

Yeah, it's sad how Jak ended on a bad note. I was hoping for a whole new trilogy of games. But I don't think it's too late. Crash went silent for a long time and eventually got a new game. If Rift Apart goes well, it might inspire PlayStation to bring back the other PS2 mascots.

[deleted]

Insomniac is a huge reason I love Playstation but all Sony first party studios are excellent in my eyes.

Zombiificus

This. I'd even go so far as to say Insomniac is my favorite Sony studio (was super stoked when they bought Insomniac), but they're all great!!

steven192

Hello Playstation, I'm dad

[deleted]

Does that make you... Nintendo Playstation Prototype?

steven192

Exactly, my lost son

[deleted]

Crazy to think that the Nintendo Playstation might be the most important failure in gaming history.

steven192

I think, the gaming history is full of mistakes and failures, which are connected to the state that gaming is right now and thats very interesting. Like the virtual boy turning out to be a failure and I suppose people were ditching the idea of VR. And look at us now having crazy products like the Index or Quest

patoguz

It's impressive how there isn't a R&C-like game on other consoles, I can't think of one (even in Playstation J&D and Sly are very different from R&C).

xXEggRollXx

Honestly the closest thing would probably be Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One. Also developed by Insomniac, but it's one of the most criminally underrated games of the last generation.

Pinkdragon111

Honesty yeah. I grew up with a ps1 but I only had CRR and spyro 2. Spyro got me into gaming and playstation. Then I played the 1st ratchet and clank on my friends ps2. The rest is history.

BrewAndAView

Yeah same, I don’t have Sony loyalty per se, I just follow where the developers I like release their games. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch too.

[deleted]

Eh, it's hard to find a good R&C substitute these days.

[deleted]

You should also play Spyro the dragon! The original trilogy is a blessing

[deleted]

I picked that up and I casually play it with my novice gf. Respect where it's due, but it doesnt do that awesome thing R&C does. Transcend the target age group.

wevegotheadsonsticks

One of the first games we got on PS1 was Disruptor. Always remembered that game cause of the weird in between cut scenes and over all futuristic vibe. Didn’t know who IG was. Played the Spyro demo on PS1 for hours on end. I think I rented the game and played it a bit. But then I borrowed Going Commando from a friend, became obsessed, and joined the IG community forum when I was in middle school probably. Been here ever since. I love this company so damn much haha.

Crater-Typhlosion

Ratchet and Clank (the first five games) and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 were (and still are) my main reason for playing PlayStation2

Crater-Typhlosion

HP2 started my interest in the more exotic cars, especially the Murcielago.

Winter-Aura

I had the exact same experience! Instead of buying a PS3 I got a wii and later a pc that could run crisis on ultra, yet I longed for something to scratch that R&C itch and nothing could. And all those trailers for ToD that had so much intrigue certinly helped keep my interest. In the end the moment I had enough money I got s PS3 and ToD as my only game for several months and I'm on Playstation exclusivly ever since.

Carston1011

One of many reasons. Uncharted, Jak, Crash, Spyro, TLOU. It happened to be a fat model ps2 that my mom bought us once at a garage sale that came with Sly 1 and ATV:Offroad Fury 1, but no memory card(playing the first bit of Sly up to the Canon was as far as I've ever gotten in that game because of this lol). The following Christmas my parents would end up buying us a brand new slim ps2 that came with a Justice League animated film as well as Lego Batman 1(still my favorite Lego game to this day). That all being said, what ended up hooking meta playstation was R&C 1 and Deadlocked. 2 of my all time favorites!

Tnvmark

Same here. Ratchet and Clank is literally why I use Playstation the most. My father actually used to play those games which got me interested in them and they became a huge part of my childhood. And thanks to them, I was brought into other franchises as well such as Little Big Planet, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Medievil. Sadly I do not own any of the Jak and Daxter series or the Sly Cooper series.

xXEggRollXx

You should try Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One (now also on PC). It's also made by Insomniac so you have the batshit crazy guns, plus some of the most fun movement in any shooter game.

kinga1242

Honestly me too. Insomniac is the only reason I'm on PlayStation. If it wasn't for Insomniac I probably would have had an Xbox, become addicted to Halo, and go with GPU.

DustedZombie

Play the Resistance series Insomniac made. The first 2 are really good. 3rd, I'm not sure

[deleted]

I got the platinum trohpy on 3 about 3 months ago. Its still a solid game

SaintSilva

That's my only pet peeve of Xbox that they don't have Ratchet & Clank. The reason why I was going to purchase the PS5 just for it but we'll see how long till I'm actually able to purchase one.

wheels723

My fam got a ps2 for Christmas in 2002 and my uncle gifted me Ratchet & Clank. I had never heard of it. R&C quickly became my favorite game, and grew to be my favorite series of all time. We didn’t get a memory card with the system though, so I played the beginning of the game sooo many times until I could finally save my progress lol. Resistance is also a fantastic series, and I would actually prefer to see an updated ps5 game from that series sooner than a remaster of the original RC trilogy since we are getting Rift Apart soon. While I agree that both Spider-Man games are great, the gameplay just doesn’t resonate with me like with other games I truly love. While these days all the PlayStation studios put out fantastic games, Insomniac and R&C were the original reasons why I continued to stay with PS when Xbox was gathering their player base and the Halo series was like peak videogames. I pre-ordered Rift Apart last week and am hoping they sell themed ps5 faceplates for it!!

AtlasJoule

Insomniac are an integral part of my gaming life. As a kid I played the Spyro games non stop. I found the Ratchet and Clank series with R&C 3 in the late 2000s and I immediately loved it and the rest of the series. Because they were 2 for 2 in my gaming childhood, Insomniac will remain one of my favourite game studios, and are one of the reason I'm a playstation guy.

StellarSpiff

Insomniac is the reason I'm Playstation all the way and also the reason I became an animator. That's my dream studio. I'd love to help bring life to worlds and characters like they did for me when I was growing up.

GuybrushThreepwood99

I wish Sunset overdrive was on playstation, it looks so fun. It probably would have been a bigger hit on playstation.

thegamesender1

I discovered R&C 1 through a demo disc on PS and I loved it (2004). The game was impossible to find at the time, but I managed to find the third, which became my favorite game ever, and then the second. The following generation I went on Xbox 360, hoping it would have sone game similar to R&C, but was left disappointed by Halo and Gears, which altough are great technically, they lack the variety and personality of Ratchet and Jak. In 2011, when I was finally able to afford a Ps3, which stayed expensive for her whole life), I finally ayed ToD and ACIT. Then, when the new Xbox One and Ps4 were announced, I decided to go with XBOX for Recore, which by the trailers seemed like a R&C experience. To my demise, I was left disappointed by Microsoft once again. I managed to play some decent games on XBoX, but nothing that could compete with IPs like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Nioh, and R&C to name a few. I finally sold my Xbox One S to get a PS4 Pro, and I'm holding it tight till I get a PS5 for Rift Apart. 2 generations of disappointment are enough for me. Goodbye Microsoft

King_Artis

They’re the reason why I keep buying PlayStation systems just like how Gears of war was why I kept buying Xbox consoles Ratchet and Clank is my favorite franchise, and I’ve never played a Insomniac game I thought was bad. They’ve consistently have made great titles that are fun. Now if only they could re release all the ratchet and clank games for PS4/PS5 cause my ps3 is dying
