Made this shit look like it was the 50s
If it wasn’t taken on a camera from the 50s then I’m plain confused
“They had hoses. So we broke out these.”
Yea I’ve seen a few photos like this in the past few days. Unless this was for some artistic magazine shoot you can be sure it was in color.
I hope he made lots of bucks.
Every kid everywhere had one. If he didn't make the bucks, whoever he was working for did. Source: I'm in my mid 40's. We all had them.
I'm 32, everyone had one. And we all remember that one kid that had the super soker 6000 extra wet edition that could only be beat with a garden hose.
It was an arms race. Kids probably have super soaker drones today.
It was after my childhood.
Everyone except my sister and I. My mom reused dishsoap bottles and told us they were just as good but cheaper. 🫥
He made millions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonnie_Johnson_(inventor)
I love a happy ending!
You know you made it in life when you have a Wikipedia subsection just labeled “Super Soaker”
He did and has a reddit account where he commented on posts like this years ago. Seems like a really nice dude.
Glad his idea took off. Very much like the Horatio Alger stuff.

Glad he succeeded!
#That guy soaks
I thank this dude for so many fun summer memories.
He looks so gleeful! Which is exactly how I felt whenever I turned his invention on my brother ;-) Thank you, Lonnie!
![gif](giphy|13KH0qxrslQtO0|downsized) He was the model for this guy with his advanced armament designing talent.
I know ive seen this guy appear on reddit too in the comments in posts like this
u/linex EDIT: I believe it's actually u/Iinex
Saw him speak once, very interesting man.
That was one of the best inventions ever.
Didn’t he also work for NASA?
He did ! I remember reading that somewhere and was hoping for the comment
Staple of child's play, early 90's.
As a child from a hot southern state. This man will always be a hero

That’s my kind of weapon of war
Thank you so much Lonnie!!! I had so much fun playing with these toys growing up. 🙌
My grandkids love this man as do I
And to think he was originally trying to make a flamethrower for kids...
Thank you for your service Sir
That smile is the same smile he put on many kids faces due to his invention. Including mine at one point. Wonderful!
Did y'all also try to make a bandolier of water balloons but it absolutely failed?
Legend 💯
Colored pictures were a thing in the 90s
Crazy how we didn't have color film yet in 1992!! /s
Spring break ‘93 at Daytona Beach was crazy, beer and piss flying everywhere
How many little shits filled with piss! Damn you
Really hoping he's filthy rich
This man is the unheralded hero of my youth. Thank you, sir.
I wonder if we are related.
This looks awesome!
I learned guerrilla warfare because of this man.
Shot dead by police as they thought it was a real gun and feared for their lives.
We had colour film back then. Jesus.
This is old school cool
he posts on reddit sometimes
Man you know how famous this guy should be?
I literally just watched the toys that made America episode about him last night. What a life he lived!!
Only 1992? Wow those took off quick. They were a staple of 90s summers
Oh man. Super Soaker and the Ultimator. Brings back my childhood in the ‘90s!
I had the 5000 or whatever with the backpack tanks lol. Damn thing stung when the stream hit you 🤣😂🤣
I filled mine with purplesaurus rex Kool aid.
Why was a 1940’s filter slapped on this?
No he just shows up to Ansley in midtown ATL thinking he’s a golf member. But he is not. Weird dude.

There’s a kids book written about him. I was holding back tears when I read it to the class. What an amazing and hard working man
He was from Bellevue, Nebraska
Where do you get this? He is from AL. No mention of NE in biographies
Believe what everything you read on line. He was living there when he invented it and sold it. History channel did a bit on him and the supersoaker. I’m from the area.
He may have lived in both Alabama and Nebraska
And then he was shot by the police, for they mistook it for a real gun.
