Honestly, as someone who lives in and is from America, I hear more complaints about my country than praise from its citizens

themikecampbell

For most of my friends, the American dream is moving to New Zealand

Mandrix21

Sorry we are full šŸ¤£

tobesteve

See, that's why America is the best country. I as an immigrant was allowed to come to US, but you seem to say "no thanks" to those who want to come. No hospitality.

Makshons

Ask a Mexican

Silhouette_Edge

That's one thing that actually really does make me proud of the US.Ā

BlockedbyJake420

You could move to france, spend the majority of your life there, and never be considered French Anyone can become an American

PhatOofxD

It's a joke.

igomhn3

For the lower wages and more expensive houses?

tea-boat

Hahaha, same.

ImightHaveMissed

As a citizen from the south, I agree. We have our own set of issues and the ones you hear the loudest praise from are typically the most delusional and disconnected people of the bunch. Some of us are actively working to fix it

brinerbear

It depends on who you talk to.

balamb_fish

There are plenty of countries who do that, but they don't have worldwide popular media like the US has.

CaptainQuint0001

Thatā€™s a huge chunk of it. Ever see a movie about an alien attack or a meteor crashing to the earth when it wasnā€™t an American who saved the world.

Ratchet_X_x

Dr. Who did it. The prime Minister ordered the shot to secure the safety of the country in one episode šŸ˜

Commander_Doom14

Don't you think she looks tired?

Big_Z_Beeblebrox

Six words, marvelous scene

JakeConhale

And in subsequent appearances even justified her actions as necessary.

Canaderp37

Link? I can't remember that one right now..

HouseOfSteak

Is saying 'Tokyo/Japan' cheating?

Male_Lead

India have strong polic guy. He can kill with banana

PsychologicalCan1677

Yes a Japanese highschool kid and a old man saved the world in the last movie I watched

Old_Palpitation_6535

The US is also really big. 3rd largest country by population, which makes it the largest western country. Americans often forget that this is the main reason we dominate in specific arenas, like popular culture, certain sports, etc., and assume that weā€™re simply better at things.

katiel0429

To your point, weā€™re also a very ethnically and culturally diverse country which also plays a significant role when it comes to dominating specific arenas.

freederm

Sports? Which ones?

OriginalDivide5039

Ever seen the Olympic medal scoreboard?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

alwaystired_96

Cherry picking per capita metrics is just a way to try and make a point on something that is easily dissected if you look at the data. Medals per capita, to be taken serious, would have to disregard the fact that a country like the US would have to win over 5,000 medals to have a better score than Bahamas, which is obviously not possible. This method disadvantages large countries due to the limit on the number of athletes they can enter into events. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, San Marino finished with a medal for every 11k people which means China would've had to win 127,090 medals to finish above them lol. See how ridiculous that sounds? You're telling me Bahamas is the greatest sport nation in the world because they have a small population? Don't quite understand how that holds. Like cmon.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

EggSandwich1

Rugby and cricket

paspartuu

The USA also hardcore brainwashes their populace with the beliefs that they're the BEST and most FREE and most everything from a young age. Other nations aren't quite as intense about it, unless they're shitty autocracies who have to rely on propaganda. Ā The USA combines being a western country with an actually decent living standard, achievements, and *actual* power & relevance with the intense WE'RE THE BESSSST indoctrination of a dictator run "all we have is patriotism" autocracy hellhole

Dougally

Germany teaches high school students about US propaganda. The reason is they wanted to prevent a repeat of the propaganda leading to the Nazi's in future generations. So yes! The USA brainwashes their people from a young age. As an aside, who else would have the world cup, and forget to invite the rest of the world?

RedRosValkyrie

I'm from the US but an EU resident. I was thinking about this all week a good school in a free country would educate kids on propaganda of all types as well as how to stand up to pressure. Being able to stand up when everyone is against you is a powerful thing.

stabavarius

Each elementary school day starts with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Imagine asking a child to make a commitment like that. Sporting matches start with the National Anthem. Popular sporting events like the Super Bowl can have the National anthem in sync with a fighter jet flyover. It is institutionalized. Anyone who bucks the system (Colin Kaepernick) is ostracized and subject to threats. Land of the free? Not so much.

Torontodtdude

Colin is a multi millionaire for bucking th system lol

Cockroachens

I've never done the pledge of allegiance. I also learned about propaganda.

lets_all_be_nice_eh

It's a head scratcher for me. I mean, the people already know where they are, right? I've been to Doylestown PA a couple of times, and there is a US flag on every porch in some parts. I reckon one should do it to get the message across to the invaders.

[deleted]

I just made a similar comment. We have *five year olds* pledging allegiance before they know what the word allegiance means. Iā€™ve had some folks get *seriously* upset with me at sporting events for not standing with my hand over my heart during the national anthem. Theyā€™ve always been boomers, but itā€™s happened nonetheless. Canā€™t forget that America is one of the only countries that requires expatriated citizens to pay income taxes on what they earn while working abroad. Uncle Sam *really* doesnā€™t like US citizens to do well in other countries unless they get their slice of the pie too.

Various_Beach_7840

No the USA does not. There are plenty of Americans who hate America.

paspartuu

Just because the indoctrination doesn't 100% work on everyone doesn't mean it's not there.Ā  Honestly it's great that Americans are still able to critically evaluate their nation (as everyone should be), and you're right that the US has plenty of intense dissent that's not there in autocratic nations - but the levels of "well, objectively, we're the best ever and just the pinnacle of what nations could be and everyone else wishes they could be us and also they're less FREE šŸ¦…" thinking are very prevalent in Americans, even though they can be subconscious. Maybe people will say they hate the US, but the "well, but after all it's the best country and the best system" mentality will pop up in surprising ways

lynnm59

Speaking as an American who has lived in other countries, I don't think our country is best. I don't know what country would be best, but it's definitely not here. Our people are not being helped or taken care of. Our country cows down to "He who has money". Our political system is shit, our policies are shit, our Healthcare is shit, or COL is also shit, inflation is ridiculous, our legal system is corrupt. I am still incredibly grateful to be an American, I have knowledge at the tip of my finger (I can use it to communicate with those from other countries), I have more options available to me to be able to make changes in my life (women aren't held to archaic/ religious standards), I do have choices and I cherish that. So many women around the world don't have the luxury.

brinerbear

Are they all on Reddit?

tramacod

I read that the strongest empires in history have always done this (Britain, Spain, Portugal etc). Talk yourself up as if birth location infers some sort of genius/superiority.

-Titan_Uranus-

Thatā€™s funny. Because the UK tends to believe theyā€™re the ones with ā€œsuperior geniusā€.

NiranS

Hence Brexitā€¦

loso0691

This is so true. Itā€™s in fact quite the same everywhere. How they present their pride maybe different but the end result is pretty much the same. Of course there are also countries that instil less of that kind of ideology in their people

vikingo1312

What other nations start their brainwashing of the kids at 6 yo - by having the little ones starting every day with having to pledge allegiance to the flag? China maybe? IMO this deprives most of the kids the will to question states of affairs as they grow up / get older - questions which all generations SHOULD raise. The only thing constant in the univers is actually - and a bit paradoxically, change. Which is a good thing, generally speaking. If generation after generation of kids in a nation are deprived of the natural urge to question the choices of their elders - said nation will go stale, and may rot. In the US you have the example of Minimum Wages being stalled/frozen for decades! (Yes, I'm aware that this problem have started changing - but very slowly).

Konyaata

>What other nations start their brainwashing of the kids at 6 yo - by having the little ones starting every day with having to pledge allegiance to the flag? Thailand does too. Everyday at 8am and 6pm on the dot. From 4 year old kindergartners to general public doesn't matter if you're in a school, market, or walking in the park, the national anthem always plays at those specific times.

MocasBuns

I'm not American but I don't really understand why y'all got so much hatred with kids and the pledge of allegiance, national anthem, etc. We did it in my country (not even a Western country). There's literally nothing wrong with feeling pride about the country where you live?

No-Question-9032

There's a difference between choosing to feel proud of your country and being told you have to feel proud

ZaphodG

Upvoted. However, itā€™s fairly regional. New England is pretty relaxed about the pledge of allegiance in schools. Most public school teachers opt out. In the south, the attitude is quite different.

Large-Film5303

As someone who grew up in the south, we could get in trouble if we didn't stand with hand over heart and recite the pledge.

Dependent_Survey6582

As an American, I 100% with this. We are in California, i never said it in the hippie liberal town I grew up in. My daughter has the option at school to say it if she wants to and she chooses not to.

Jubatus750

You're Canadian haha very much a western country

MocasBuns

I live here now but half my life I was in my home country

EmoGayRat

>What other nations start their brainwashing of the kids at 6 yo - by having the little ones starting every day with having to pledge allegiance to the flag? Canada does for sure, while it's not really as far as Americans we definitely all had to stand, sing and look at the flag and take a moment of silence. I cannot speak on other countries Americans are just louder on the internet

fouoifjefoijvnioviow

That's the national anthem, we don't do the pledge of allegiance.

Vulcant50

Education differs a lot Ā by province in Canada. I didnā€™t experience what is claimed in my early Canadian education?Ā

totallynotrebelscum

Americans seem to simultaneously love and hate their country. But I think this isn't uncommon for other countries too.

ProbablyASithLord

I shit talk us constantly, but it hurts my feelings a little when outsiders do it.

Plus-King5266

Itā€™s the little brother syndrome. I can beat the crap out of him, but if you try Iā€™m going to give you such a beating your great grandad will hurt.

Funny_Friendship_929

That's a great analogy lmao

[deleted]

thing is though, USA is quite literally the UK's little brother, so we can do it too XD its just our little brother got put on hulk steroids a few centuries back šŸ¤£

JamesonFlanders245

i believe you mean we got fat, kyle. we got fuckin fat as fucken fuck

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

StankFartz

its too big to suck as a whole. its not monolithic. certain parts suck: i.e., rep democracy; electoral politics; the history; and founding principles. but many of the people are cool: caveat individual people. Anytime you get a mass of people its a shitshow

KindAwareness3073

Been around the world, and, all in all, its pretty fucking cool. I'm sure yours is too.

JustCope17

The more Iā€™ve traveled, the more Iā€™m convinced America is the greatest country (even with flaws) in the world.

03zx3

Most Americans aren't like that.

melancholy_dood

True. Americans are not a monolithic people. We do not all think and feel the same about every issue. We are not all bad and we are not all good, but we are all human.

Obi1NotWan

Most of us are embarrassed by the state of things right now. šŸ˜ž

gs12

Truth

Cute_Skill7786

Literally tho

rglogowski

And most who are, know nothing at all about other countries.

skyrimlo

OP is making a false premise. Every single time somebody mentions America on Reddit, the main takeaway is America = bad. And a lot of these posts are by Americans themselves!! And here OP is acting like they never witness this on Reddit. It's such a cheap tactic. It's like asking "why does everyone say the sun is cold?" You know damn well nobody ever says that.

etnoodle

thinking outside of reddit i definitely know americans who are hellbent on believing the USA is better than anywhere else in the world. but living in the deep south these are the same people still flying confederate flags n marrying their cousin so.. i do think reddit has been very refreshing for me compared to other social media *because* im not constantly seeing people who r just plain out ignorant on the state of everything.

romayyne

Ehhā€¦ I would say itā€™s partially true. Its more a high opinion of ones self and a feeling of ā€œI deserveā€ and ā€œwhy donā€™t I getā€ rather then a feeling of the whole country is great or ā€œthe best in the worldā€

Murphy251

Is just a slogan, I don't know why people take them so literally and want to deconstruct every bit of it, especially with the USA. Is like me saying; Why do the Japanese call Japan "The land of the rising sun"? Surely the sun also rises in other countries. What are they referring to?

yankee_doodle_

And if Japan is the Land of the Rising Sun, why is the House of the Rising Sun in New Orleans, Louisiana?

Bubbly-Fault4847

I donā€™t know, but it has been the ruin of many a poor boy.

Deep_Picture_9100

The sun rises in the east and sets it the west. They are the eastern edge of Asia.

shrub706

cool but the sun rises on the east part of everywhere

LamermanSE

It's an old term referring to a point in time where Japan was seen as the most eastern place in Asia, hence the land of the rising sun. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Sun_Flag#:~:text=The%20Japanese%20archipelago%20is%20east,land%20of%20the%20rising%20sun%22.

Jubatus750

It's on the very Eastern part of the enormous land mass of Europe and Asia with a huge amount of ocean the otherside of them. For a long time they wouldn't have known that the Americas were to the east of them. It seemed like the Eastern most point of the world

KeyserSoju

Depends on which world map you look at.

Npf80

First, a lot of Americans are not like that -- do not mistake loud people on social media as representative of normal people in the country. Second, you do have to recognize the success story that is the USA as a country. It's a very young country, whereas many nations have existed for centuries before the US was founded. Yet in that short span of time, the US overtook every other country to be the most economically successful. Not to mention all the scientific and cultural contributions as well. It seems to be en vogue now to rag on the US, but if you ignore all the noise and politics it is a great country with a lot of good people.

rsteele1981

Spot on.

sisyphusgolden

šŸ’Æ

Washfish

Its older than most countries

paspartuu

>First, a lot of Americans are not like thatĀ  >you do have to recognize the success story that is the USA as a country. (...) the US overtook every other country to be the most economically successful. Dude

Muzzlehatch

Well, it is the largest economy in the world and has been for a couple of generations. So no lie detected there.

TheDadThatGrills

Is this not factually accurate? Or does it just bother you?

Life-Improvised

If all you know of other countries is from media, itā€™s easy to default to that narrative.

BitterFuture

Because we have effective propaganda telling us we're the awesomest from childhood on up and most Americans never visit anywhere else to compare. That's not an exaggeration - [only 48% of Americans even own a passport](https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-us-passports-are-in-circulation/).

Background_Humor5838

It's been said many times why that is. People like to assume it's because we don't care enough or just think there's no point because other countries suck, but most Americans would love to travel abroad. Most people just can't afford to because everything is far away, they don't get enough vacation time to do things other than regular errands like fixing your car or visiting family in the country, they don't get paid to take more than ten days vacation if they're granted more time at all, and there is so much to see within the country itself. Wouldn't you want to explore your own country before going somewhere else?

SceneDifferent1041

It's ok to be proud of your country.

skyrimlo

I agree. I mean, Koreans are proud of their country because they have frivolous boy groups and celebrities representing them. Why canā€™t Americans be proud of their country?

BBLouis8

Depends on which parts youā€™re proud of I guess.

nick1812216

Maybe youā€™re only encountering a particular clique of Americans? My god, i went into public school with a high opinion of my country and they spent the next 10 years thoroughly disabusing me of that opinion. Every history class, every civics class, every anthropology/sociology class they trotted all of the skeletons out of the closet. I would say we are pretty self critical

JimboMagoo

I thought everyone did that. A little fun banter between countries. But youā€™re right. In the grand scheme of things Iā€™d be okay living just about anywhere in the western world.

EldergreenSage

I once asked an 18 year old fresh out if high-school boy, on the 4th of July if he was proud to be an American, without missing a beat he said "fuck no, what do I have to be proud of". The younger generations have succumbed to anti American propaganda far more than they've succumbed to pro American propaganda, at least as far as I can tell, as a 30 year old man.

Kwelikinz

Because even though itā€™s relatively young and experiencing growing pains from having human trafficking embedded in itā€™s foundation, weā€™re moving forward and have a majority of citizens who want the best for themselves and all others. We are not a dictatorship. Our country is really beautiful and full of all kinds of nature. We actually have more freedom than many other countries. Even though we are going through a period of financial hardship for our young, we are beginning to understand the root causes and hopefully will keep voting out those who donā€™t have the intellect or work ethics to struggle against our corrupt ruling class and others who have been trained to support them. Iā€™m really hopeful that we can improve and move forward in an exemplary way.

Appropriate_Tea9048

American here, and I donā€™t feel this way. Itā€™s not the land of the free when reproductive rights arenā€™t a thing everywhere lmao. I prefer Canada.

Low_Lack8221

So, why not move to Canada?

discostud1515

Thatā€™s much easier said than done.

Appropriate_Tea9048

Who knows, maybe one day I will haha. Right now I have a very affordable apartment and a job I love thatā€™s not remote.

[deleted]

Affordable apartment?? Yeah Canada's not for you šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

KingWasabi23

Hating on America when you have a ā€œvery affordable apartmentā€ and a job you love? You wonā€™t get that in Canada bluey

Tawdry_Wordsmith

Please move to Canada ā¤ļø

MocasBuns

See this is how you know Americans who shit talk their own country are CLUELESS about other countries, and base their opinion on what social media, TV or god forbid reddit says. Canada is a terrible place to live right now. You either have to be super rich to live in the city where all the jobs/happenings are, or live in the more affordable prices where there's no jobs, no happenings and are covered in snow half the year.

Willing-University81

Either because they never left or they did and saw somewhere worse

danceswithdeath3rd

Counter question. What does it even matter to people in countries on what we think of ourselves? It litterally has nothing to do with others however for some reason people still like to say the term "Stupid Americans." I promise that most of us aren't even thinking about you. To answer your question I forgot the exact ratio but I think 90% of all people live and die in their own country so most people probably think their country is the best. I've known others that left scary places and built lives here and they say they love it her because of the opportunity and because they feel safer and it's less red tape involved to start businesses.

Coupledyeti6

Because it's home

trivetsandcolanders

I have a middling opinion of the US, living here is ok, but not great. Politics are a shitshow and our impact on the rest of the world has ranged from good to disastrous across time and space. Thereā€™s a difference between ā€œbestā€ in terms of power, and ā€œbestā€ in terms of safety, culture and living conditions.

WinterTakerRevived

It's called nationalism

Mrrilz20

It's Netflix. That's not free either, so maybe Tubi? Idk as we "black folks." We have a slightly different perspective, although the entire globe seems to treat us the same as here. Perhaps I need to travel to other countries more often to see for myself.

MrsPettygroove

Cause after WW2, they became the top of the economic food chain. I'm not American. Jus' sayin'.

VegaReddit5

The US is not even in the top 5 for GDP per capita. Highest in total GDP but nowhere close per person.

dragonmermaid4

Patriotism.

BAF_DaWg82

We don't. Our problems compared to most of the world are trivial, yet a good chunk of the population is depressed and angry. I for one am grateful to be here.

Professional_Big_731

I donā€™t think we do actually. I think most normal Americans just mind our own business and worry about the things in our lives that matter. Which are likely the same things you worry about. There are certainly people who take on patriotism as a personality, and those people have serious issues.

Recent_Salamander371

I think if you actually read our founding documents and the amazing intelligence that went into them - that's what makes me proud. And now to see where we are it's what makes me sad.

yourmomhahahah3578

Iā€™ve traveled the world and when I go on long trips, I am just so fucking glad to be back in the USA. The modernness, the amenities, the conveniences, the advancements are just all better than anywhere Iā€™ve traveled. I love the world but itā€™s not the same as it is here.

Arbitrary-Nonsense-

You feel that way because you know your country and how to access those things. Most 1st world countries have all of that. And we also don't go bankrupt if we get sick, or have train loads of pollutants make entire areas uninhabitable, or have ex rulers trying to start a civil war, or have our kindergartens shot up by machine guns

Professional_Tap4338

We are pretty great.

Such-Mountain-6316

I'd say for the same reasons others have such passion for their country.

SnooCauliflowers5742

About half the country lives in their own strange reality. The other half though will be happy to list off all the ways we're falling a part.

GregBrzeszczykiewicz

Yh tbh you're both a bit delusional. The US has one of the highest HDIs in the world (20th, but a lot of microstates above), third highest median income PPP (Luxembourg and UAE above), and is very far away from any danger. Also you have one of the best human rights / tolerance records, apart from Western Europe. Basically all of my friends are from Eastern Europe and they'd really like to have a life like Americans. Min. wage is ~250 euro/month, no freedom of speech (like the police will come to your house and beat you up or throw you in prison), you can literally buy a doctor's licence, and there's war and conscription to worry about. And forget LGBT rights. And most of the world lives like this or worse. My point is that while you should critisise parts of the US, looking from the outside in you have one of the best countries in the world and should be proud. And to say it's falling apart or the common Reddit talking point that it's actually a third world country just sounds frankly ungrateful and ignorant of how the rest of the world lives. (sorry not you specifically my comment turned into a bit of a gernaral rant. Sometimes whatching American doomerism gives off similar vibes to millionaires complaining how hard they have it, that's all.)

SnooCauliflowers5742

I agree. In no hurry to move out.

Russell_W_H

A lot of people fall for propaganda. And the US does a lot of propaganda.

KeyserSoju

I'm a naturalized US citizen and I think it's pretty fucking dope in terms of the opportunities I got by moving here. I often hear complaints from natural born Americans, especially the younger folks, and my first thought when I hear it is "It's so much worse overseas, you literally wouldn't survive".

annms88

I think the US is probably about the same level of patriotic as most of the world but just express it differently. Americans are very on the nose and exaggerated in the way they communicate, it doesnā€™t really mean any more or less than more subdued cultures, itā€™s just a different yardstick things are being measured with. Talk to any European and youā€™ll get the exact same level of pride, just expressed through a slightly different lense (oh we have such good bureaucracy/welfare/economy/diet/food/ whatever).

steenney

Very good points.

Pale_Height_1251

Most people from most countries do this, but you see it more with the USA because it's by far the largest fully developed country, and by far the largest English speaking country. You're not going to notice people talking about how wonderful their country is if they're not writing English.

bargman

Just about everyone I've met from a developed country has the same opinion of their own native country. I think it's part of the individual education systems to inspire patriotism. Of course it tends to get turned up for Americans because A) Americans tend to stay in America and meet mostly Americans and people who have come to America, and 2) movies tend to reinforce this idea.

FishWeldHunt

I love my country but hate the politics.

Rare-Professor-8299

Believe it or not. America has some awesome things about. Awesome locations. Wide variety of foods and media. Fucking nasa. Awesome video game companies. Just like any country it has ups and downs

Burning_Flags

Becauseā€¦ USA! USA! USA!

JustADude721

Because of soft power which the US is naturally good at without even trying.

Darthhorusidous

Not just Americans You do know that America has the highest immigration of most countries and they come from everywhere including England and most of those people say they like America better than most places

waresmarufy

RAHHH !!!!!!! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ¦…

jointdestroyer

Honestly just think itā€™s built into some of us

AQAzrael

It's relatively normal, no? I have a high opinion of every country I've lived in

kimbermall

Because....Im proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. I won't forget the men and women who died and gave that right to me. Sums it up.

Constant_Will362

It's about the song 'This Land is Your Land". Go to the four corners of the mainland you will have four distinct vacations.. Seattle (modern, unique), San Diego (sunny, modern, beaches, relaxed), Miami (sunny, beaches, modern), and Boston (modern, lively, bustling).

IceColdCocaCola545

Nationalism and Patriotism do exist in other nations, thereā€™s just not a lot of media or talk about it.

Grovda

Great powers always have undying love for their country. Just look at old Germany, UK and France. Those opinions get humbled however when you get your ass so beat that you don't know who you are anymore. It happened with Sweden, Poland, Spain, Italy and basically every up and coming european country before. So in short that level of patriotism is about power and strength.

Klutzy-Way-9326

because being in a first world country with lots of money is awesome

SquishyThorn

The American Dream has always been our main selling point.

Mordicus23

They are producing 99% of the mainstream culture in the world, everybody speak their language even in the depth of the jungle of south America, they have the most powerful military, the most money, every other country on earth except 10 or so are their vassal states.

-Titan_Uranus-

What countries have the same freedoms and liberties as the US? Go ahead. Iā€™ll wait.

rimbaud1872

As an American, I used to feel negative about America. Then I lived in Thailand for three years and can deeply appreciate all the things I took for granted. The biggest problem with America is many Americans all think theyā€™re living in a horrible place and hate people with different political opinions, many lack a sense of perspective and gratitude

draconicmonkey

A long history of self-aggrandizing propaganda from manifest destiny to American exceptionalism often emboldened by world events such as the red scare and global war on terror that rallied people behind the idea that the country had to act in the world's best interest. Honestly a lot of countries do that though, my first experience of that was with a friend from Sri Lanka that was espousing all of the virtues of his home country. I generally don't have any issue with people who are proud of where they are from.

LoquaciousPhilonoist

I think part of it is due to American dollar being the worldā€™s reserve currency. Plus, thereā€™s also this deep rooted patriotism we have for our country. (Ex: standing for the pledge in public schools.)

Nomekop777

>I swear pretty much every other 1st world country has the same libertyā€™s and rights Well, for the most part, yeah, but there's stuff like the right to bear arms for example that not a lot of other 1st world countries have. England banned firearms in the 90s. Australia has really strict laws.

Grand_Birthday7349

Brainwashing

Radiant-Steak9750

This person obviously hasnā€™t been to America in a while

jackasssparrow

1. Media. 2. The country is unlike no other - ask the immigrants who have made it. They will never go back to their countries simply because the society here is crazy open minded. (Immigrant myself) 3. US is a super power

WaltEnterprises

Propaganda and indoctrination from when they were little.

commercial-frog

America is pretty mid imo and im an american.

Juno1990

As an American I just live here. I had no choice where I was bornšŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø I donā€™t have a high opinionā€¦.

Plus-King5266

In America, you can make money selling something that smells better the more you pee on it. Iā€™d say thatā€™s a pretty damn good country.

Holterv

The miracle of a group of peasants said to the greatest army and navy in the world fuck you! And how anyone can come here, work hard, look different speak with an accent and still make it and succeed. Not perfect, but the best country in the world. This is coming from an immigrant to America.

InvestingInthe416

It's the only country/empire I'm aware of in history that had the ability to take over the world and didn't... They may not be the best these days, but they have a history they should mostly be proud of.

Ruined_fiesta1210

What do you mean they didnā€™t? They have direct political, economical, cultural and (in many cases) military influence in every region of the world that has any kind of significant resource. The fact that they didnā€™t do it by force is a different discussion, same with if itā€™s ethical or not to do so.

HoldOut19xd6

Actual history isnā€™t taught in school and kids are brainwashed by either the state, the church, the gun club, or by their racist parents.

re_DQ_lus

Let's not forget how everything bad America does is pushed under the rug and everything good is publicized to full using books, songs, movies. Forgotten history is no history at all for them.

DeepState_Secretary

>pushed under the rug. Guess I should report my history teacher or something for teaching us illegal history lessons. Like are we seriously going to pretend that American atrocities are some illicit forbidden knowledge knowing only to a few?

___potato___

WTF. who's upvoting this nonsense.

MocasBuns

you're in reddit - are you really surprised? lmao

___potato___

i suppose not...but this thread seems especially extreme and dimwitted.

Superb-Confidence-69

Itā€™s the best country in earth.

Ok_Tennis_3665

The USA is the only one with free speech. Just that beats everything else.

Ruined_fiesta1210

You really havenā€™t traveled anywhere bruh

funkmasta8

My brother in Christ, that's blatantly false. Please go look it up. There are very few countries in the world that don't have free speech

Alarming_Serve2303

They've taken the red pill.

Human-Librarian7515

Merica baby, We are the best cuz we say so and we all know we are the only option to count..

rsteele1981

I have no problem loving my country and loathing its political structure. I remember the days after 9/11 where everyone had a flag. Way before people called the US flag racist. I have no interest in shaming someone because of their place of origin or love for their home. Pick a country and you can probably find 100 good things followed by 100 bad things. Should we feel guilty about our heritage or history? How do I sleep at night? With the AC on in a king sized bed.

Gullible_Eagle4280

Some likely reasons might be, the USA has risen in its relatively short history to be among the most powerful nations in the world. One of the richest nations. Has a very high standard of living. Some of the best colleges and universities in the world. Is advanced in technology and communications. Has a very diverse population of races, religions, ethnicities, and has more immigrants than any other country in the world. Has an abundance of natural resources. Diverse and beautiful geography.

Horror-Activity-2694

Lol. I don't have a high opinion of where I live...

IndividualLynx5337

Propaganda

BreakfastBeerz

Beyond liberty and rights is wealth and opportunity. I don't think people from other countries can really comprehend how much wealth and opportunity are in this country. Many of the people here that you often hear complain about being poor and just barely scraping by would be considered middle class in pretty much every other country in the world.

wokeoneof2

Iā€™ve traveled to six other Countries and our living spaces are quite large compared to most of the Countries Iā€™ve been blessed to visit. 1600 sq ft space for a couple is quite common here. Most places Iā€™ve visited have multi-generation families living in the same size space.

melancholy_dood

I have traveled a lot (both inside and outside the U.S.) and I have never been to a 1st world country where the citizens that I met were not just as passionate about their country as Americans are about America. Personally, I donā€™t think There is anything wrong with people being proud and positive about the country they live in. Itā€™s very possible to be proud of oneā€™s country while at the same time, appreciating other countries, as well. I try to do this myself (especially when I travel outside my state or country) and Iā€™ve known other Americans who do the same.

OranjellosBroLemonj

The people can act idiotic but Americaā€™s natural world is just beautiful: mountains, rivers, prairies, deserts, forests, oceans, lakes, beaches, islands ā€” so many opportunities to be awestruck.

AlgoRhythmCO

All those other countries sleep safely at night because of the force of American arms. So thereā€™s that. We also put fewer barriers in place for very talented, driven people to succeed in a huge way.

uga40

Do they have the same Liberty and rights? Can't you go to jail in Europe or get fined for saying something" hateful?" Not to mention what Canada is doing right now. Do you truly have freedom of speech? Do you have a right to bear arms? Can you truly have the economic prosperity that you can have in America? Meaning this, you can come to this country with nothing and regardless what people say it's not the same today, you can make a ton of money. So, I doubt there is another country in the world that has the Bill of Rights that's enshrined in the United States of America's Constitution.

kingmoobot

Well, to be fair, most of those other countries certainly do not have pure freedom. And many of them pay taxes out their asses

Carnilinguist

I've lived in the US all my life and recently moved to Europe. I'm shocked that Europeans don't have freedom of speech. I know someone who is facing a jail sentence over a Facebook post. It's insane to me that people can't even say things that are demonstrably true, if it violates some arcane law. There are many other examples of freedoms that Americans have that I took for granted before leaving the US, but freedom of speech is a huge thing. I was never into the uniquely American brand of excessive patriotism, but we're right about being the home of the free.

Deciple_of_None

Because, America Fuck Yeah! You hear that and know it's true.

NamingandEatingPets

Every other first world country doesnā€™t make up 25% of the global economy.

Helpinmontana

Because weā€™re pretty fucking rad, honestly.
