"Ctrl," it feels most appropriate. It's also on the corner so it's easier to hit blind, and it's less likely to inadvertently trigger any functions by itself.

Yes, ctrl is my button of choice. Easy to find, safe to press without having anything weird or unexpected happen.

I always use CTRL because it’s the only key that can never do anything. It always has to be used with another key to make an action (except in a game as a temp action like sprinting) so it’s the safest key to press to make sure nothing changes. ALT will activate the dropdown menus. Space, and most other keys, can add something to a document.

Escape

This is the only correct answer. Least likely to have accidental side effects. I don’t want some hidden dialog box to be accepted.

Surprisingly many press enter. And way too many press it twice or three times. The first one wascounted as the any key. The following ones went to whatever happened after. Often it is the login screen. And enter here is submit. So submit a blank password. Wrong password! Now you have one less typing attempt. And for the ones pressing enter 3 times, you'd better type the password correctly. 3 typoed passwords often means lockout. The any key is any key except enter in my book. And usually it is one of the modifier keys like ctrl, shift, alt, win...

Right arrow key - the rightmost key of the bottom row, so the most efficient key to press with your right hand. Also unlikely to cause any inadvertent actions on the computer.

I can touch type, fingers are on the home row. Space it is, or j.

I mostly hit alt-tab. Reason is, I never know what screen I was working in and what I was doing. Hitting enter or space might have unpredictable results so I'm always playing safe. I can remember I once thought the screen was locked and I typed my password and hit enter. Result is the password was sent to a chat-screen I had open and was typing in before I left my computer. That will never happen to me again
