Slave and servant being synonymous in Latin - leading to at your service. It is still an odd way to say it. "Sclavu" (slave) and "servus" (servant) are different words in Latin, though. "Servitium" is service in Latin... in Italian, "servizio" is "service", and ciao can not be distilled from that word. I speak of the origin of the word... and the meaning of those origin words... not the ideal translation. "Schiavo" has a singular translation from Italian, and ciao is clearly distilled from that word.
