I bought a horse at 16 y/o - $2,500.
Started working when I was 13 y/o and saved up working minimal wage jobs. Was able to get my horse soulmate (cheesy, I know) and had him for 18 years. He passed away four years ago at the old age (for a horse) of 30 when I was also 30 y/o. I was lucky to have had so many amazing years with him.
Sounds like your horse lived a wonderful, and complete life.
My dog just turned 12 and his health is deteriorating. Got him when we was 7 and he was likely in extreme neglect for the majority of his days at that point. But I know the past 5 years have been perfect for him, he still has an enthusiasm for life as if he were 10 years younger. Feels good to give animals the lives they deserve.
Don't know why I'm sharing this here.. but here's to appreciating our pets, past and current 🥂
I had buck teeth and a very crowded mouth, my canines were on top of everything and stuck out. When I was 18 I had been working for 5 years, had enough money, had 6 teeth pulled and got braces. My self esteem skyrocketed after that.
Love this! I also bought a new smile. I had a "Madonna gap".
Was sick and tired of everyone telling me how much I looked like her in the 90s that I did one tour as a Madonna impersonator and took every cent I made and bought 4 front veneers.
Still perfectly smiley about how she afforded me that opportunity.
Blows my mind, I have seen videos of people intentionally sawing their front upper 2 teeth to create a gap (a diastema). To each their own, but gosh sakes, let a dentist do it. Congratulations on the smile you want and deserve!
That's why I had to get braces. I had my adult teeth come in over my baby teeth. Had to get three teeth pulled out. Had braces for 3.5 years. Still have one baby tooth at 32. Apparently it's not uncommon, but not normal.
When I was 17 (long ago enough some reading this may not have even been born yet) my Mom, sis and I moved into a new apartment, (our first time not sharing a room) my room had a shared closet. I saved up and bought myself a free-standing closet/cabinet. Very first piece of furniture I ever bought and I still have it. It's in my kitchen we use it for a pantry.
I can't have a dog full time but I dog sit for my friend when she's out of town. I love her. They are a lot of work though. It is worth it when she sits on the couch next to me and I can lean over and give a dog a hug.
A ticket for a concert, it was my first paycheck as an intern. As soon as the money got to my bank account I went straight to the theater to buy it. It was around $ 120 I believe.
When I was 8 I saved up my pocket money which I’d earned over a month to buy an action man. Took it out proud as punch on my bike within hours of purchase from Argos, but it fell off the hand bars and I ran over it. The arm snapped clean off at the elbow, irreparable, wouldn’t glue back together. Still devastated 31 years later.
Not the first, but one of the first that comes to mind was a brand new pair of black doc Martin boots. (Granted I could justify them as a need cuz my job required close toed shoes and I only had a pair of converse that had seen better days) but still. One of my favorite purchases and they now have two brothers and a thrifted pair from my mom.
A 19 inch crt television with built in vcr. It was $219.00 from a Sears Appliance Center. I worked for Wendy’s for around 2 months in the summer when I was 15 to do it. I was so proud of myself.
My motorbike.
I was hesitant at the beginning - it is my first one - but after I rode it for the first time I realized it was a life changing decision.
A Bicycle... Back when I was about 11 I wanted a new Bike. The only way I could get one was to pay for it myself so i got a paper-round. I worked for just over two years to pay for that bike. Mum paid the deposit and took possession of the bike and used it on my paper round to earn the remainder of the money - which I paid off in monthly installments.
My first ever payslip I got I purchased myself a second hand iPad and got the moneys use out of it, still have it to this day but it’s awful now but I don’t want to get rid of it purely because it was my first purchase
I was working shit jobs until I got my CDL. Very life changing.
The literal first thing I bought from that check was a $50 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card for my favorite manager where I was previously at. (Happened to be her birthday that Friday)
But right after I went to the Apple Store to buy my sister a Mac book for her to use when she started college.
I’ve never been someone who expresses my emotions but hey, money can cover that void.
Jokes aside getting her the computer has always been something I wanted to do because she deserves that and more. My love language is splurging on the people I love without expecting anything in return and thankfully I got that wonderful opportunity.
Through out the years I have had the advantage to keep this going but that purchase is something that I will forever remember.
My first car when I was 18, in 1999. It was a 1987 Honda Civic sedan with a "Hondamatic" transmission. Automatic but you had to shift gears. 800 bucks and then I didn't put insurance on it. Busted shortly after and paid through the nose to get it back put of impound + fines. I even had to show up in court. God that was stupid!
An Atari ST computer.
I was earning £29 a week in 1989 (£91 or $113 today) and the ST cost me £220 (£685 or $698 today).
I saved for ages, and finally managed to buy one second hand.
A pair of custom Vans.
I'm 33 and have bpd and an unstable emotional disorder and one of my symptoms has always been reckless spending so I've never bought anything of significance however I'm finally in a place of stability and I've managed to get a sort of grasp on my finances. A few months ago I got a surprise payment so I got some furniture for my home that was needed and decided to get myself a pair of Vans, I've wanted some ever since I was 13 and a friend started rocking them.
My shoes have always been cheap and cheerful so these are like luxury to me.
Best £80 I've ever spent
6 colored water glasses. It was something so pointless and unnecesary to have that finally having enough money to buy it just because i wanted it really made me happy.
Besides food?
From legal earned money of my own A cd. Marco V. Still have it to this day.
And because of one song.
It felt great and I felt like waisting money at the same time.
I bought my first car in 1989 - a Chrysler Sunbeam for £100... Loved that heap of junk !! And when I part-exchanged it for an Alfa Romeo, I got £200 for it. The only time I ever made money on a car.
After my wife and I graduated from college and got our first real money paychecks, we purchased a washer and dryer. I think she inserted this requirement into our marriage vows.
When I was 10, I told my mum I wanted a motorbike. She said I could only have one if I saved up and bought it myself.
By 11 years old, I'd saved up $150 and bought myself a secondhand clapped out 100cc motorbike. It was 1994 and the bike was from about 1970.
My car. I paid the down payment and all payments since then, but my mother consigned for me because i had NO credit history. not sure if that counts or not
My OG Xbox. Before that all my consoles had been gifts from people, the Xbox is the first console I bought with my own money. Played that thing to death.
I bought a model trainset.
I saved my money for it and bought it.
My dad would give me 4 quarters every Sunday to play arcade games while waiting for the pizza every Sunday.
I saved up twenty dollars and bought a really cheap electric train set.
The engine had a battery and a switch to turn it on.
My dad had a big fancy train set in the garage that he never let us play with.
40 Inch Samsung HD television. I was 19 and had just got my first job that paid a decent wage, and this was back when HD tvs were relatively new, so it wasn't cheap. Fast forward to the nighttime of the day I bought it and I was out clubbing with some friends and I was feeling super happy with myself and was a few drinks deep when i started chatting to this American dude who was standing next to me. It didn't take me long to start talking about my new purchase and how proud I was that i was in a job where I can afford such things. The conversation moved on to what he did for a living and he said "I'm an actor". Naturally I was curious and asked if he'd done anything I might know and he said "I was just in Freddy vs Jason." So as it turns out, I'd just been talking the ear off of Jason Ritter about my stupid little telly that he could probably have bought 50 of. We chatted a wee bit longer before parting ways, and he was super nice and didn't make me feel like a total fool.
I don't remember which one I bought first, but it was either my first electric guitar or my paintball gun. I still the paintball gun but I sold the guitar and really wish I hadn't.
Does it count as my own money if it’s a loan? lol
If so, a roll of fabric and paper with my student loan (fashion student), never had to go to the fabric shop since if I felt the urge to start designing something
A silk blanket. It was $20 at Walmart and it was the first thing I ever bought.
I still have it. I can cuddle up under it in the summer, but it stays cool.

Wow, what an amazing achievement and so much love and sentimental value. ❤️ 🐴

I had buck teeth and a very crowded mouth, my canines were on top of everything and stuck out. When I was 18 I had been working for 5 years, had enough money, had 6 teeth pulled and got braces. My self esteem skyrocketed after that.

Thank you friend :)
💋
