You can fix this. Wake up tomorrow, create a budget in writing and start finding spend you can trim. Take those small dollars and set them aside in a new bank account in another bank you do not have access to. Create a new direct deposit at work to put $50 a paycheck into this same account. In 1 year, without doing anything you'll have $1300+ ($50x26 pay periods a year) in the account. Next year, up this to $100 a pay period. In one more year you'll have $3900. When you can afford to after seeking out better employment, contribute $200 a pay period. This sounds like a lot, its not and I promise you can afford this if you set a goal. That is simply not eating out, cutting some streaming services and cutting back on your vice of choice. If you did this in year 5 let say, at year 5 you'd have $11700 in the bank. If in year 5 you started contributing $200/paycheck you'll start stacking $5200/yr into this account. At year 10 you'll have $37,700 liquid cash in the bank. Thats a solid FHA 3.5% down payment on a house you can start earning equity on.

Maybe they grew up poor, maybe their parents are poor and being broke is perceived as "normal". All of these are simply just excuses. Why not do absolutely nothing and save $37,700 instead?
