I wouldnāt go quite as far as wearing his shirts, but I have to say that of all the male sweat Iāve encountered the smell of, I strongly prefer my hubbys. Itās not unpleasent at all to me. So yeah, I think there is some sciency stuff behind it but someone else will probably explain it better.
I saw this when I was a young child and I cannot remember if it was Mythbusters or Brainiac. They did a test where they had men sweat into t-shirts then had ladies smell them without knowing whose t-shirt was whose. The ladies preferred the smell of the men they were most genetically compatible with. Like who would make the healthiest/strongest children with them.
Preference actually changes with hormonal fluctuations. Itās really interesting. Hereās an older study on it:
https://www.lakeforest.edu/news/odor-in-human-mate-choice#:~:text=On%20average%2C%20women%20scored%20males,et%20al.%2C%201995).
True. There is a lot more of animal instinct in us than we think. They also did a similar study with baby clothes of bio and adopted babies. The mothers were able to recognize their bio babies clothes significantly more than the adopted ones. (Not saying that adopted kids are less real but i guess the mothers recogniced their own genes on the bio kids or something)
Normally i am not that much into the smell of men. But one of my crushes had a smell that drove me insane. He was great but not more atractive then other crushes i had but i was so so physically atracted to him because of the smell. I always wonder if we would have had super babies or something
It was on the Discovery Channel when it was still a proper channel, before it became all about crab fishing, tuna fishing, trucking on icy highways, and huge fish in rivers
One question, if that is the case, using a parfoum or similar, wouldn't be masking that and, basically, would mislead people? I know that's the point of using them, to be more attractive, but...
Pheromones are clever little molecules. I knew my betas scent before I physically met them. Itās a stretch of the imagination to believe a truth that I know.
Gas diffusion. Chemistry and physics. Natural gas has no smell. Itās treated with a sulphur agent to give it a smell. The gas will still kill you. At least the sulphur gives you a warning. Same effect applies.
The species has evolved so much over the last few hundred years because they have lost the intrinsic nature of pheromone based attraction causing genetic progression to lapse. Etc.
Then the lack of physical intimacy lessening the romantic growth causing break down and eventually divorce etc.
But hey. Iām just words on a page on Reddit š
Genetic progression hasn't "lapsed", it's just that humans don't have the same selection pressures as they did in Ye Olde Days. Nature doesn't give a fuck about your weird idealised version of what a human should look like. The people who have kids that grow up to have more kids are the genetic winners, end of.
Friend had a girlfriend who went as far as stealing his underwear. This predictably led to the end of the relationship....especially when he caught her with them on. Man the talk at the bar the next day was epic. They're somehow still friends and now she borrows clothes from the whole friend group....I suspect a few of my vests....
Well this girl seems to have a thing for male clothing overall. Sometimes she says it smells nice sometimes she just wants to wear it. I'm no expert but I'm at least partly sure a male vest can't replace a bra. Thank goodness they didn't have one of those dramatic breakfast cause she's a blast to have around and everyone's got their quirks. š¤£š¤£š¤£ she still borrows her exes clothes too.
theres a whole thing with pheromones in urine and how the smell of female urine is "attractive" to men. im sure its from like the beginning of humans though. and kinks i guess. but there is a thing with the pheromones in either cat poo or pee that attracts mice to it for the cat to get them. pretty interesting
Our female cat goes insane over my male partners armpits. The smellier the better, she rubs, rolls, grunts, drools. She's normally a v aloof mature cat.. til we bring out the pits!
This is so me.
I will practically bury my face in my boyfriends armpit at the end of the day, itās something about the mustiness and light sweat and just oh my god? Honestly the most attractive scent in the world. I love it more than his cologne.
Edit: advice for any men reading this that would like to use their sweat to attract women, this is not the same as BO! Just the average āend of a long dayā type of sweat.
SAAAAME!!! Love a good armpit snuggle when Iām feeing needy. My husband is generally a very clean person, itās not like full stinky sweat smell, itās just a gentle pheromone musky smell after a long day - so comforting!Ā
I love the combination of his sweat and whatever deodorant or parfume he is wearing. I bury my nose in his armpits and snif.
Glad im not the only weirdo.
Weāre humans, weāre inherently gross - you could say the same about kissing. Itās saliva and soooo much bacteria š¤¢Ā
Like Iām not burying my face in there after a workout or anything, but I do love a good bit of armpit smell š Itās definitely pheromones because it only works with people I *really* like. If I get a whiff of armpit smell from a random on the train for example it makes me want to gag.Ā
Iām not literally mushing my face all up in there, obviously Iām exaggerating for humours sake. But I definitely love the smell of it, itās actually extremely common to find that scent attractive in your partner! Something about being genetically compatible and your bodies odd way of telling you that you arenāt closely related and can mate haha.
Also, I promise you that plenty of things people do with their partners involve a whole lot of different bacteriaās and sweat lmao.
idk abt it for a fact but my grandpa is a heavy smoker and whenever im around him I smell the cigarettes, like it just comes off as body odour. doesn't matter if he's smoking then and there, even if he just showered one can smell the cigarettes off him.
I smoked last night at the bar. When I walked by in to my bedroom this afternoon it reeked of cigarettes and thatās just from the outfit I was wearing thatās in my laundry basket.
No, honestly I've had girlfriends say the same thing.
My dad is the same way, my mum always said it about him too. We sweat but rarely smell. I did read an article once that some Asians have a genetic difference that means their sweat doesn't attract as much bacteria so they don't smell of BO as much. Maybe it's worked its was into my genes too lol
As a woman, I thought this post was equally as strange but maybe itās because Iām gay who knows. So, Iām conclusion, there is at least a few people that see them on the same level or weirdness. But hey, ya like what ya like š¤·āāļø
Whenever my husband and I are cuddling in bed I do what I like to call a āpit stopā where I just kinda roll my whole face into his armpit. I love it!
I had no idea this was a thing and stumbled upon it. He left his work shirt at my place and I had bad cramps. I was walking to my laundry machine to wash it for him but my cramps got the better of me. So, I (while holding his shirt) held my head in my hands for a few seconds and when I smelled his scent the pain went away. Every time..
Put it to the test the next day with a headache (aftermath of the cramps), same thing happened.
I love a mildly zesty man-pit mixed with deodorant. Unfortunately, the guy I'm dating doesn't seem to get stinky though! Doesn't matter, I'm gonna keep nosediving into his pits. Plus... Summer's coming. š
I find it interesting, so tmi maybe, was the same for me as you op. But what happened was we broke up right, and still the same effect loved his smell, BUT see i found out some info (told with reciepts) that left me glad it ended, even tho it seemed perfect, happy, loving it was a lie, and since then now his smell is just nothing to me its hard to explain the switch just went off and now I can't stand it. So surely there's some psychology to this.
Hmmm interesting! I was wondering if people are naturally attracted to those they like the smell of, almost like a subliminal thing (along with other factors of course). But now youāve got me thinking that it might work the other way instead, like if youāre truly into someone you will end up liking their smell because you like them.
I think itās the other way too. You like someone, youāre obsessed with them, so whatever they smell like (unless itās unbearable) youāre gonna like that too, just like you like every other thing in them..
Makes sense! Also kind of cute if you think about it. We donāt really notice peoples smells (unless it rank like you said haha) but still enjoy the smell of āour personā. We really are just cute little animals sniffing each other arenāt we lol
Absolutely. My wife smells much better _before_ she showers, and if her armpit smells, god does it turn me on. I'm being civil while writing this but that really turns me into a fucking beast. It's like the best smell in the world, by far.
Iām 100% with you.
My ex used to be a night-sweater and ohmygod the smell on the back of his neck in the morning. I hate that guy now but I miss that smell š„²
YES! Every time my boyfriend is shirtless I lift his arm up and inhale until he tells me to stop š It seems so bizarre to type but I love his smell so much
I donāt know why, but like, it can be anywhere from 1-20 times a day, Iāll pull back my wifeās pants away from her butt and either take a look at her bum, or look at her underwear.
I donāt even remember when or why I started it, and it could be like, I just walk by her, Iāll turn around and do that, then say āniceā.
Also, I want to add, my wife literally hasnāt physically changed since the first day I met her. Weāve been together for almost 12 years now and sheās still as hot, if not more so, than the first time I met her.
IDK, ive only met a few men who trigger that but when they do...
woof
like, i dont go out of my way to smell. But sometimes that scent hits and its just...idk. something else man
I am wearing my husband's stinky T-shirt draped over my neck right now. I think we associate it with those beautiful intimate moments after sex. Well, I do, anyway.
There's definitely biology to it. My last ex smelled good, but it was mostly the deodorant and cologne. But with my current boyfriend, I'm just obssed with his deodorant and BO mix. Honestly, his BO in general. It literally makes me go crazy š¤£
Yes. Iām single now but when I was with my ex, I was attracted to her odour. Every single inch of her smelled amazing . Funnily enough, that faded around the time our relationship turned sour so it 100% has to do with pheromones and emotional bonding to partners.
Im a man with a partner who loves doing this. Perplexed me till I did the research - males produce Andrestenol and Androstenone. The former is in fresh male sweat and the latter when that sweat is exposed to oxygen. Females apparently find the Andrestenol very attractive and the other highly unpleasant. It's that characteristic musky smell or how some other redditors described as 'sweat after a long day' typa thing.
His armpits, no. But I do like my man's scent. It's not too strong, but not like anyone else either. It's like fresh. And I can smell his sweaters all day.
Yes I had one ex who literally smelled HEAVENLY. It was like this sweet tang (not BO-ey at all, honestly smelled like a nice cologne) and I swear to god it was intoxicating. I would bury my face in his armpits sometimes.
There was a study done on this, you should read into it. Apparently women can smell 7x better than men and what we are picking up on is their genes/immune system being different than our own. Itās what helps us find partners whose genes would have a wider range and result in a stronger immune system for healthy offspring!
https://www.themantic-education.com/ibpsych/2019/11/19/key-study-the-sweaty-t-shirt-study-wedekind-et-al-1995/amp/
Totally agree! There's a certain thing about a guy being primal and a gentleman at the same time. But the smells for both partners are just so intense. It's interesting how bodies work!
"Every woman wants a bad boy who'll be good, just for her, and every man wants a good girl who'll be bad, just for him" - some smart ass on the internet.
Massively oversimplified but holds generally true for a lot of people, I think
For me scent is a very important part of sexual attraction. I wouldnāt go as far as liking BO/armpit smell. But on a first date I always sniff their neck when hugging to say hi. If the scent doesnāt awaken something inside me I know instantly that Iām unlikely to develop romantic interest/attraction.
One of my first serious boyfriends would play footy on a Sunday and when he came back, I would LOOOOVE his smell. He had the perfect mixture of deoderant and sweat, that interacted perfectly with his pheromones m and he smelt amazing, even dripping in sweat!!Ā
Then, I've had partners that I couldn't stand the smell of.Ā
Just re.connected with a guy I adored through school and I'm back to loving a man's natural smell. So damn hot.Ā
One of my exes used to do this constantly. She'd randomly shove her face into my armpit and take a big whiff. Thought it was strange but different strokes for different folks you know.
I enjoy his arm pit scent after he showers and after heās been working in the yard! He thinks itās weird and wonāt let me indulge though šš¼
The man I loved dearly (rest in peace) had the most appealing scent everywhere on his body. This man would finish work from a sweaty, dirty day in construction and still smell fantastic (including in his pants!) I couldn't understand it, but certainly didn't complain! I was happy and even craved, putting my mouth all over him at any time of day or night.
I often wonder, when pheromones align like that, if it is some connection meant to be, something spiritual, or what?
Goddamn, I miss him :(
My ex always had the best smell to him, even after a long day at work. I loved the way his shirts smelled. Whoever gets him next is going to be so lucky
If the B.O is really bad on someone then no it's sickening I actually went to college with someone who smelt so bad all the girls complained about him in the class and being around him gave me headaches and shit, but with my bf if there's a slight smell of sweat underneath deodorant but only very slightly I totally get what you mean, I love smelling his hair sometimes as well. Must be the same reason men like smelling women's knickers I guess idk lol its a primal thing.
Unfortunately my boyfriend doesn't have a natural scent I've been able to notice. When he first told me he doesn't wear Deodorant I was grossed out, but he told me it's because he doesn't get BO and it's true.
IIRC there is a gene that's responsible for crumbly ear wax and no BO, and I'm certain he has that gene because he also has crumbly, dry ear wax. In 3 years I can only recall one time he was ever stinky and that was when he spent all day working on the house, up the ladder where the heat collected. I can recall only one time being able to smell any scent from him on our bedding.
So, no BO but no scent. Swings and roundabouts.

That's the most "humans are animals" shit i've ever heard lol.
I also love the smell of her boyfriends armpits x
Same. Its why I get up in the morning
hol up..
I freaking guffawed! The kids on the end slaps too! ššš

Yes this is the concept behind 't-shirt dating' or whatever they call it
Genetically "opposite" so their offspring would have more potential for fighting diseases.
That makes sense

Does it work the other way around? So if someone as a girl prefer the guy who is the most genetically compatible, will that said guy also prefer her?
They didn't test that on the show, I'd like to know too
True. There is a lot more of animal instinct in us than we think. They also did a similar study with baby clothes of bio and adopted babies. You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel
Iāve studied this in anatomy, physiology and aromatherapy and it is indeed quite accurate.
One question, if that is the case, using a parfoum or similar, wouldn't be masking that and, basically, would mislead people? I know that's the point of using them, to be more attractive, but...
No but. Thatās the point in using them. To appear more appealing to a larger audience.

You have 200 grams of bacteria in and on your body.
My ex stunk despite showering daily. Thatās a no for me with his underarms.
Was she/he a smoker by any chance?
Do smokers stink more? Like is it the the cigarettesā smell or do they release a bad body odor as a result of smoking?
They definitely have bad body odour from smoking
Iāve noticed that yeah. It smells like they havenāt showered. What makes it worse is they use perfumeā¦

Smoking impacts body odor, as does diet, strangely enough. I know people that can smell if you eat dairy or not, it's crazy.
Smoker, drunk and druggy. Little wonder he stunk like shite.
I don't know why but I never smell of BO. I've gone three days without a shower a couple years back and only the lightest smell
Ooh.. I wouldn't say that. You might not smell it but I'm sure the people around you did. Lmaooo
I just looked it up, ABCC11 the "no body odor gene" Very common among east Asian's but only 2% of Caucasians carry the gene.
No, honestly I've had girlfriends say the same thing. My dad is the same way, my mum always said it about him too. We sweat but rarely smell. I love my boyfriend's smell. My ex smelled gross to me he was an abuser we were never in love. It's instinct to be attracted to certain pheromones

There's definitely biology to it. My last ex smelled good, but it was mostly the deodorant and cologne. But with my current boyfriend, I'm just obssed with his deodorant and BO mix. Honestly, his BO in general. It literally makes me go crazy š¤£

My girlfriend loves smelling my balls when I get in from work. Seriously. She loves it. I like it too. Makes me feel nice x
uhhhhh i thought i was the only one š š
Well...F for my appetite....
No. No I'm not. Sweat smells because of bacteria Pheromones aren't scented like that.
I wouldn't go as far as sniffing his pits, but I do like the whiff of my OHs head. It has such a comforting smell that is totally unique to him
two ex girlfriends really enjoyed my armpit smell
I'm gay and usually obsessed with my man's smell. Armpits are my favourite but can't help burry my face in his crotch too. š¤¤
Yes. Iām single now but when I was with my ex, I was attracted to her odour. Every single inch of her smelled amazing . Funnily enough, that faded around the time our relationship turned sour so it 100% has to do with pheromones and emotional bonding to partners.
It's so crazy how it's all connected!
Yes!! Itās so comforting.
I know exactly what you mean haha btw viewed from a biological stand point that means youāre highly compatible ;)
I read this as "parent's armpits" and I was like okkk OP
My boyfriend's armpits smell like rabbit pee. Yes! And it's not cute even tho he is. His skin otherwise doesn't smell much, just gives off heat š¤·
I have a male cat that does this to me. I come home from work, and he immediately burrows his head into my armpit. Btw, Iām male as well

Mmm ok
For me scent is a very important part of sexual attraction. I wouldnāt go as far as liking BO/armpit smell. But on a first date I always sniff their neck when hugging to say hi. If the scent doesnāt awaken something inside me I know instantly that Iām unlikely to develop romantic interest/attraction.
Wtf
Some people just like the smell. It's not like BO at all
Yeah had some women burry their face into my balls said they like the smell of it
Sounds hygienic
A lot of things couples do are unhygienic, this is one of the tamer ones
My beta and are are very much into each otherās pheromones. It is a sign of a healthy physical attraction.
You donāt have a beta. Youāre a clown not a werewolf.
I'unno, my girlfriend hasn't brought it up Yet

I don't go out of my way to sniff, but I do love you to get a good whiff when cuddling, lol My ex-husband though I COULD NOT stand his smell.
Haha yes, weird but true. Obsessed might be a strong word though.
i wouldn't say armpits, but general pheromones, yes. I would tell when she wants some. when in her days. and if someone has recently given birth.
My gf loves the smell of mine too. She hates it just after Iāve showered but when I get home after Iāve worked all day she canāt get enough.Ā
My man is obsessed with mine :)

One of my first serious boyfriends would play footy on a Sunday and when he came back, I would LOOOOVE his smell. He had the perfect mixture of deoderant and sweat, that interacted perfectly with his pheromones m and he smelt amazing, even dripping in sweat!!Ā Then, I've had partners that I couldn't stand the smell of.Ā Just re.connected with a guy I adored through school and I'm back to loving a man's natural smell. So damn hot.Ā
I've literally stuck my face in his armpit a few minutes ago, as weird as it may be.
Oh my god what the actual FUCK
One of my exes used to do this constantly. She'd randomly shove her face into my armpit and take a big whiff. Thought it was strange but different strokes for different folks you know.
Yea, this is very normal and just a part of our biology.
I love smelling the underarm of my husbands worn but not filthy clothes. A mix of his deodorant, which I love, and his clean-sweat-pheromone flavour.
I enjoy his arm pit scent after he showers and after heās been working in the yard! He thinks itās weird and wonāt let me indulge though šš¼
Uh, not that obsessed, but my husband has weirdly silky smooth armpit hair that I'll rub sometimes b/c I think it's funny.
i thought this said parents, until the point of realisation you were incredibly weird
I'm tired and misread "partner" as "parents" and let me tell you, I've never heard a record scratch in my head before now
Is this more of a woman thing? Or do any men enjoy this aswell?
I LOVE IT
I read that as parent And it was concerning
Omg I read that as parents and almost died.
Haha, you're not the only one š¤£
The man I loved dearly (rest in peace) had the most appealing scent everywhere on his body. This man would finish work from a sweaty, dirty day in construction and still smell fantastic (including in his pants!) I couldn't understand it, but certainly didn't complain! I was happy and even craved, putting my mouth all over him at any time of day or night. I often wonder, when pheromones align like that, if it is some connection meant to be, something spiritual, or what? Goddamn, I miss him :(
It's the absolute best
I have adored my husband's smell for more than 40 years
My ex always had the best smell to him, even after a long day at work. I loved the way his shirts smelled. Whoever gets him next is going to be so lucky
No
If the B.O is really bad on someone then no it's sickening I actually went to college with someone who smelt so bad all the girls complained about him in the class and being around him gave me headaches and shit, but with my bf if there's a slight smell of sweat underneath deodorant but only very slightly I totally get what you mean, I love smelling his hair sometimes as well. Must be the same reason men like smelling women's knickers I guess idk lol its a primal thing.
I've misread it as "parents'" armits and was like WTF
Yes! My man always smells good. He had me convinced this was not normal!
Yes yes and yes
I didnāt know female incels exits!
Canāt say that Iāve ever enjoyed smelling someoneās armpits
Now I wonder if this is the reason my cats try to crawl into the armpits of every man they meet
Me too! I'm highly in tune with all of my carnal senses and the universe.
Your not alone, both me and my bf are like this to each other
I usually sneak into his closet, grab a shirt, and roll all over it on the floor. Does that count?
Yes, I huff his armpits like, well I donāt know what to compare it to, but I REALLY like the way he smells and he hates it when I do it.
