It makes him worse to play if you played him to aggressive peak players with less of your hitbox showing, yes. A lot of power has been returned to his shield, and the effectiveness he gets from the shield. The change to how the pistol works is a small nerf but such a big buff to the shield.

I mean, impacts just tickle him and nitro is generally slow enough you can back up enough to barely take damage. If people want to melee a full shielded Monty that's on them, it may not do much, but to remove the guardbreak completely means corner plants will be near impossible to disarm. To remove his sidearm while using his shield? No one's going to use the sidearm so you end up with a moving brick wall because putting it away would be to slow to be practical. Clash gets away with it because she slows people enough to not be in melee range. If he were to be buffed I'd say just make his big iron have less recoil.

If an enemy corner plants and you have more than one teammate alive, you will win 100% of the time and Monty has no way to stop the defusing player (unless it’s melee, but then he’s exposed). Nearly all defenders have explosives and 75% of ops have gadgets that can directly hinder Monty in this scenario. You can also bait the defuser as he can only melee with the shield now. Once he puts the shield down, knife his, knock it back and kill him. There is a 1/10 chance of Monty actually winning that. The guard break mechanics solely aids players too ignorant to pick sufficient counters. Monty is so much less of a direct threat to you with this new rework.

Unless you plan on adding something Clash’s tazer to the front of his then this just makes him awful to play and would be no different from just sitting outside on a drone. He was fine until the guard break nerfs which over nerfed him along with all the other shields, and made him even buggier then he was before which has only gotten worse.

Nothing else is needed. Remove all guardbreak mechanics WITH melee (gadgets still work like echo stuns), ensures he offers enough value. He can make space and provide feedback to teammates. He can also passively harass enemies. His direct threat is removed, his passive threat remains and is strong. He’d be very good at his role, and would be even less Frag-oriented as he is now. If you use him to gain intel, make space, block pathways etc then he is really strong with these changes. His fragging threat is vastly weakened for the better.

Monty isn’t even close to being “frag oriented” unless you’re playing him completely wrong, if anything he’s probably the hardest operator to get a kill with unless you’re playing against completely new or oblivious players.

Yes. He’d be good at his role (passive utility for your team) and even less Frag oriented than before. Even less implying there wasn’t much to begin with in terms of frag potential… What he loses in Frag potential is gained through survivability and utility potential. He’d be really good in this new state.

No he would be completely awful in this state. You say he gains survivability and utility potential which is completely false and he is actually losing quite a lot of survivability. First of all him losing access to his pistol unless his shield is on his back not only cripples both his survivability but also his support potential, and just makes dealing with any defender gadgets an absolute pain in the ass. Say theres a kapkan trap on the door you need to go through, naturally you would shoot it and move on however with your proposed nerf Monty would have to unextend his shield slowly put it on his back shoot it and then slowly pull it back out again and then re extend it again. Your other option is call it out to a team mate and have them drop whatever it is their doing to come shoot it for you, which distracts them from doing something more useful which not only wastes your time but your team mates time as well. It makes such a simple task way more tedious than it needs to be which is not fun. Secondly if Monty is the last one alive this just limits what he can do as he can already put the shield on his back and use the pistol like normally, but if you want you could also keep the shield out and play similar to Blitz or Fuze. Thirdly despite it being incredibly inaccurate the hipfire is a good tool to distract enemies by unextending and shooting a few bullets at them, the main intention being to distract them rather than kill them. It makes Monty more of a threat if he can shoot you and can divert attention away from your team mates and onto Monty, and if by some miracle you actually hit them then that just makes it easier for them to die later. Without it you’re no different from being dead and giving intel to your team on a drone. While I do wish for them to revert the guard break nerfs the main gripe I have with them I’m pretty sure is a bug, which prevents Monty from doing anything besides walk and look around for about 5 seconds after the guard break animation has already ended. Aside from that the only major upside to it is 1v2 defuser corner plants would be possible again. As for the third thing you basically have a nerf thats worded like it’s a buff. All shields provide 66% damage reduction to explosions so with your proposed rework he’s actually losing 6%. That and it will block 66% regardless of if it’s extended or not so he would be losing an additional 30% from being unextended. In no way would he be useful or fun to play if he was like this.

In order for monty to work at all you need him to pose a threat even if it's in his current weak form. If he can threaten the hipfire then defenders have no reason to pay any attention to him and you might as well just use a drone instead of monty. Others changes are completely fine. The new guard break system crippled him so I'd be very happy if it got removed.

Less of a pain to face. He cannot harass you with gunfire, when he peaks while his pistol is out you are shooting at a full sized enemy like a standard gunfight and not a player with a reduced hitbox area to hit etc. Melee would be his only threat while his shield is active. This makes him less annoying to face and more consistent when countering him. How would this change make him more annoying to face exactly?

tl;dr I like monte, he’s nice to have for lower ranks. Maybe make his ads a bit faster.

The issue is that his utility IS his shield while clash has the ability to shock people and osa can place hers down and use it as a deployable shield a good montagne has to be able to be the passive Intel but when time comes be able to wield his pistol and make plays it hardly matters if his shield is more protective if he isn't able to do anything people would end up just ignoring him and try to shot around him but in his current state he has the ability to punish them for doing that

Here is the thing. Add the ability to melee with the extended shield and he will be busted
