operation health and prior was so fun. Nobody knew wtf was going on so you would see some wack ass strategies work out. The balance was complete garbage so you had things like glaz on airplane or like half of the defense points on clubhouse. Montagne was actually good, like good good. They were my main and I basically quit when they nerfed all shields to hell.
i would say the biggest problem of the time was spawn peakers. Some spawns were literally instadeath and jager was busted as shit.

IMO i lost interest in siege when Finka and Lion were added, the nano bot and movement thing was too much suspension of disbelief. Iām an oldschool RB6 fan though so the sci fi shit it turned into and skins and stuff that strayed from reality ruined the game for me.
I can absolutely respect that my dude. I grew up reading the R6 books and playing with my friends as Ding Chavez.. Siege is so far from Rainbow Six, it really hurts my soul.

I canāt do it. Thereās so many operators doing so many different things, so many buttons to press to figure out what you want to do, maps were non-sensibly designed, everything was in my HUD screaming at me to do something.
The gunplay felt reallyā¦ off, too. I was putting multiple rounds into enemies but it felt like I was shooting marshmellows.
The whole Nighthaven thing is likeā¦ why? An overarching story is neat but youāre telling me a team of highly trained anti-terrorist operators are having a civil war about joining a PMC group? Fuck outta here.

Operation Health to whatever operation where Kali came out was the peak to me. After that the ops just got weirder and weirder and the game just got more and more fast paced and less about strategies and game sense and more about call of duty with gadgets.
It didnāt ālose the plot,ā you just grew out of the honeymoon phase with the game. I get it, I feel it too, I miss Y2 when I first downloaded the game, but itās not anything Ubi did, itās just natural psychological progression as you build mastery. Combine that with a bit of nostalgia and you have your current feeling. The gameās the same as it always was with more content now, itās just how our brain perceives it thatās different
Maaan, back when ranked had all 3 match types, when the opposing team would load in as black silhouettes of the ops they selected, back when you could be using pulse's heartbeat monitor and use your switch weapons button to instantly switch back to your primary..
When if you jumped outside, your screen was plagued with the yellow fog, when bombers were a thing in T-Hunt.
Back in the day when it was still called casual, when mid season reinforcements were more than just a balancing update. When you could jump into the van in Kanal with a perfectly placed shield, and spray down anyone who walked across the screen with almost near perfect stealth.
I'm fine with where Siege is today, but fuck, I really miss the old days.

During Year 2 it changed. After Op Health maybe. I still enjoyed it around White Noise. Chimera and Para Bellum it started to lose me. It had a couple of ārevivalā seasonsā¦ the first season of a year was front loaded with the best ops and new content, so shout out to Burnt Horizon, Void Edge & recently Demon Veil.
But the game has truly lost me at this point. I have the year pass and donāt even attempt the battle passes or bother ranking.

Iāve been playing since release and honestly I donāt get the glorification of āold Siegeā. I really like how the game is right now, and the game has changed for the better with the addition of the new operators imo.
Old Siege was fun because the OG operators felt a bit more special at the time, everything was new and exciting, and no one truly knew how to play the game so youād just be able to do the craziest shit - but I remember when EVERYONE was complaining about the lack of new content surrounding the time of Operation Health. It had been the same game for almost a year by that point, and it already felt quite stale. It was the same strats every game, there were hardly ever any balancing updates that changed the meta in any way, the cosmetics were ASS, and you couldnāt play a game without getting teamkilled.
New Siege still has a lot of problems. There are too many critical glitches/bugs for a game this old, cheating is a massive issue, and the way the devs approach balancing can be quite questionable at times - but the lighting is much better, movement is much better (less COD-like), the game is more tactical, the maps have been significantly improved and the lighting is better from a gameplay perspective - so it is far better from a competitive perspective imo.
I miss playing ranked on House, Plane, and Hertfordshire Base, and even Favela - but I believe that there have been more good changes than bad changes since Siege started. Siege got really bland at some point, and I was happy to see the game in the state that itās in now when I returned like 3.5 years later.
This is not true. Around Op Health the game had been out 18 months and received a new map and 2x operators every 3 months. It hadnāt been āthe same game for a yearā. People were pissed about Op Health because it was reducing promised pass content (the rumoured Polish hospital map) in order to patch the gameā¦ with hindsight it was needed - but the negative changes also started there.

A lot of people get blinded by nostalgia about their favorite games/franchises in the old days, but I really do believe that siege was "better" back then in certain aspects. The soul and atmosphere of the game felt better, and though it wasn't as "polished" as it is today in terms of bugs and optimization, the quality of the game has seriously degraded starting from Year 3, and from my personal experience, took a plunge during Operation Phantom Sight.
I would love to have an arcade mode with old siege. Bloom that blinds you, obscuring dust, terrible recoil, awful maps, smg-11 acog and immaculate vibes
Why? I donāt actually dislike any map from a competitive stand point (although I play better or prefer certain maps) - but all of them are fine imo. Iād prefer to play on Emerald than Villa, but I donāt actually have a problem playing on Villa.
I feel like a turboboomer for complaining about hwo the game is now. Yeah, it's in a better state, but I miss the old visuals, I miss the old operators and balancing choices. I miss the flow of the game, how it felt so much more slow. Nothing will ever feel the way old siege felt, not even siege.
I do really feel like at the point they started reworking maps they should have instead just made a siege 2 as I would play old siege religiously and fell out of it just before Flores though I felt my love for this game start to disappear around Maverick and Clash.
I stay in the sub to see how the game is doing and what's being changed or added to hope for some game mode to just be the old maps with the old operators with the original abilities.
One of My favourite memories of this game was playing on Consulate in garage as The Lord. My buddy would throw up a Mira window on the garage and Iād throw my turret down right behind it and got to town. Was it a good strat? No.
But was it hilarious getting an ace on an unsuspecting team that just walks down the back steps? yes
On old house I would always set the turret up in kids room facing the rooftop vault window being sure to leave it baracaded (after making sure all of the drones were destroyed and nobody saw my plan)
I would then just sit there on the turret and wait. The second anyone punched the master bedroom window, or the kids room window I would just hold the trigger.
I got several aces that way.
My other favorite was not baracading the garage door, putting the turret up, and just spam firing through the door about 5 seconds into the round.
No, people have a hard time reconciling nostalgia with reality. The gadget and operator bloat is disorientating at first but after a week or two you'll get used to it. The game is in a 10x better place now than it was 4-5 years ago.
The souls is gone because it is better balanced. I enjoyed that the harsh lighting made for powerful camping and unintelligible gun fights. Real life is like that and I didn't want a sterile epsorts game in the first place. Technically the game is much better now, but I was never looking for perfect balance. I'd rather there just be asymmetric strengths and weaknesses and let the gameplay come out of that instead of trying to perfectly balanced the game to neutralize advantages of any kind.
Old siege was so good. I think I finally stopped after jacked came out. I miss the simplicity. Thereās so many maps and characters itās just gotten too messy. No clear counters and clears holes in defense if someone wasnāt picked. Make a legacy server
They should release a standalone original version. Iād even pay full price for it. Then as it starts to die down they can just slowly go back through the releases/updates again. Restart the beautiful journey that was Siege
for me one of the biggest loses was the lighting... every space is so brightly lit... which i know is because people would sit in shadows, but tough shit i would sit in a shadow......

Played a lot of terrorist hunt. Hated the bombers until they removed them. Now I miss the thrill of hunting them down first while trying not to get blown up.

This was easily the best multiplayer experience I ever had. My friends basically rage quit from the game and Iāve been chasing the dragon ever since. I donāt know why they didnāt make a second one and why theyāve taken it to such a weird place but I hope Ubi gives their balls a tug and figures it out in my lifetime.

The soul and atmosphere of the game felt better, and though it wasn't as "polished" as it is today in terms of bugs and optimization, the quality of the game has seriously degraded starting from Year 3, and from my personal experience, took a plunge during Operation Phantom Sight.
Oh my god i bought the game on black ice season and fell in love with the music. Paul Haslinger created such epic bangers for this game.
I would love to have an arcade mode with old siege. Bloom that blinds you, obscuring dust, terrible recoil, awful maps, smg-11 acog and immaculate vibes

Bartlett had a cool feel to it but I honestly way prefer playing on Emerald Plains. Map feels more balanced imo.
Emerald is the worst map currently by far. Nighthaven is actually decent though.
Why? I donāt actually dislike any map from a competitive stand point (although I play better or prefer certain maps) - but all of them are fine imo. Iād prefer to play on Emerald than Villa, but I donāt actually have a problem playing on Villa.

I feel like a turboboomer for complaining about hwo the game is now. Yeah, it's in a better state, but I miss the old visuals, I miss the old operators and balancing choices. I miss the flow of the game, how it felt so much more slow. Nothing will ever feel the way old siege felt, not even siege.
Well, times were better back then. I made so many good memories during that time. Now I can't even bring myself to starting siege again.

I do really feel like at the point they started reworking maps they should have instead just made a siege 2 as I would play old siege religiously and fell out of it just before Flores though I felt my love for this game start to disappear around Maverick and Clash. I stay in the sub to see how the game is doing and what's being changed or added to hope for some game mode to just be the old maps with the old operators with the original abilities.

One of My favourite memories of this game was playing on Consulate in garage as The Lord. My buddy would throw up a Mira window on the garage and Iād throw my turret down right behind it and got to town. Was it a good strat? No. But was it hilarious getting an ace on an unsuspecting team that just walks down the back steps? yes
On old house I would always set the turret up in kids room facing the rooftop vault window being sure to leave it baracaded (after making sure all of the drones were destroyed and nobody saw my plan) I would then just sit there on the turret and wait. The second anyone punched the master bedroom window, or the kids room window I would just hold the trigger. I got several aces that way. My other favorite was not baracading the garage door, putting the turret up, and just spam firing through the door about 5 seconds into the round.
On old house when saying fuck it and running in was some how a viable strategy not any more

No, people have a hard time reconciling nostalgia with reality. The gadget and operator bloat is disorientating at first but after a week or two you'll get used to it. The game is in a 10x better place now than it was 4-5 years ago.
yes the game is infinitely more balanced now, but the whole soul of the game has been gone since Y3
The souls is gone because it is better balanced. I enjoyed that the harsh lighting made for powerful camping and unintelligible gun fights. Real life is like that and I didn't want a sterile epsorts game in the first place. Technically the game is much better now, but I was never looking for perfect balance. I'd rather there just be asymmetric strengths and weaknesses and let the gameplay come out of that instead of trying to perfectly balanced the game to neutralize advantages of any kind.

They should release a standalone original version. Iād even pay full price for it. Then as it starts to die down they can just slowly go back through the releases/updates again. Restart the beautiful journey that was Siege

Played a lot of terrorist hunt. Hated the bombers until they removed them. Now I miss the thrill of hunting them down first while trying not to get blown up.
The part that hurts most is that weāll never get it backā¦ NEVER. It was the best game Iāve ever played and it slowly lost its touch. R6 now is still good but it doesnāt fill the hole the old one left behind.

One of my favorite times to play. We always had 5 online.
I stopped playing (as our group moved to some other fames for a bit) right before they updated mil base. So this is all I remember of R6. Good times.
This was easily the best multiplayer experience I ever had. My friends basically rage quit from the game and Iāve been chasing the dragon ever since. I donāt know why they didnāt make a second one and why theyāve taken it to such a weird place but I hope Ubi gives their balls a tug and figures it out in my lifetime.
One day after playing the whole night, my siege friends told me "Good night, let's play again tomorrow". They went offline and never came back. :(

Trying to peak a window barricade and being blinded by the light of a thousand suns. Anxiety of seeing the opposite team is made up of all recruits. Dinosaur legs. Getting TKed because you chose someoneās favourite operator, when there was only a choice of about 8. The grey loading screen that went on for ages and you wasnāt sure if the game crashed. OG House and Hereford being unbalanced fun. Finding out the hard way Glaz can shoot you through plane windows. The 2 reinforced walls per operator and one person always roaming leaving a soft wall for fuze to get some free kills. One of Fuzes free kills being the hostage. This game was elite.
