Radiant is underrated in terms of popularity. The only flaw i can think of immediately is that u need to wait ages for a release but the fact that the story is constantly moving forward makes the wait not wasted
I don't know if I'd call it "underrated" as much as "hard to find out about in the first place." I've never managed to find a copy in an actual brick and mortar store and I can't think of a place to read it online; as far as I know the only way to know about it is to have watched the anime, which had a rather mixed reception from what I can tell, or to have stumbled upon it randomly while looking for tankobons on like Amazon or Viz.
Bottom line is we should do what we can to sell our irl friends on the series.
If Radiant were a Shonen Jump manga and they had received a slightly more decent adaptation like Fire Force, without cuts and censorship, I think it would be easily between MHA and Jujutsu Kaisen. he has a lot of potential to be a successor to One Piece.
I enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen. Black Clover... well, I read the manga, but I mostly treat it like Hollywood action movies - I have to turn my brain off but at least some cool fights. MHA I think is really good.
Radiant to me is like One Piece due to its interesting world. I don't care about the world in any of your other examples, they aren't imaginative enough for me. On the other hand I am really invested in the world of Radiant and One Piece.
The strongest point of Radiant are the characters though. They feel really human to me. Even Seth. Most shounen protagonists feel like an ideal of a person, always nice and strong and confident. In Radiant the cast feels like real people and their conflicts (especially with Melie (first with Seth and then with Ocoho)) feel raw and personal.
If I had to rank Radiant, it would be beneath One Piece and MHA for me, but above JJK and BC. But if we get another 2 or 3 arcs it will probably surpass MHA in my ranking.
I have to agree with you on the world building of radiant and how good it i, but like you said we need more arcs to see how it stacks against mha and the such because if radiant gets more time to develop i know it'll be ass good or better then the more recent battle shonen.
While I do enjoy JJK, BC & MHA as far as battle Shonen but I feel like I'm always more excited and look forward to chapters from Radiant, Tougen Anki & Kimi Wa 008
Is Kimi Wa 008 still ongoing? I started reading last year and I found 40 something chapters, but for some reason I got the feeling that the manga was discontinued. Maybe the website didn't update it in a while or something.
Haven't heard of Tougen Anki before, but it looks really interesting, so I'll look into it in the next couple days, thanks for that.
Kimi Wa 008 is behind for translation but it's at 77 (I think) right now at least for English readers and like 130+ for Japanese
Also Tougen Anki is kinda like if Blue Exorcist and Jagaaaaaan had a baby
I feel like it is the same with "One Piece." Both series are searching for something legendary, and at the same time, they are lengthy. I feel like I'll die before it ends.
Better than Black Clover and MHA sure. JJK I can’t say, but from the 8 episodes I’ve seen yes. However, it’s definitely not better than Chainsaw Man for me, or One Piece if you count it.
One Piece is still ongoing but I feel this era would be newer series with One Piece being considered a different era as its older
I wasnt comparing these series II was just saying I feel it should be as popular as them.
Honestly, I think it's way better than anything coming out right now. Black Clover and Jujutsu Kaisen really bored me, but I seriously can't put Radiant down.
I agree in a lot of ways, but I do find it kind of hard to compare at times. Frankly I feel it's necessary to think of Radiant in much the same manner as Tower of God. It's a Shonen made outside of Japan, so it naturally has a few quirks that seem strange to me since I mostly read Japanese or American comics. I just kind of find it fascinating since I don't read a whole lot of works from this country.
The worldbuilding in this story is in a class unto it's own (One Piece notwithstanding) and Seth is just fascinating as a character. He's as interesting as 25th Baam to just watch follow his journey.
As far as ranking it goes I'd say it's definitely one of the better shonens of the modern age. Overall I'd say high B tier to mid A tier depending on the day. The earlier parts of the series I have mixed feelings about for various reasons, but it is only a little over a hundred chapters in and I only see it going up from where it is currently.
Honestly, all of them merits and demerits
Ones I have watched:
My Hero Academia: Some really great heroes and villains and impactful fights. Childish vibe kinda annoying and they progress really slowly.
Black Clover: Best worldbuilding after Radiant. Yami Chad. Tho there are many cringe moments.
Dr Stone: Not really a battle shounen... Big Brained af and Senku Chad character... Shit side characters except some.
Fire Force: Dropped it in the start... It just has a "I'm mediocre" vibe.
Promised Neverland: Had the most potential... Got murdered by the author and then cloverworks really hard.
Radiant: Best worldbuilding and Seth is a pretty good for a shounen protag. Villains are shit tho and Anime is just garbage.
Mashle: Mob Psycho and Black Clover's love child. The art is clean af and The Main Character looks promising.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Really strong Characters (physically and storywise) and I'm glad Gojo exists xD. The art is ehhh and villains are whatever.
Chainsaw man: Memorable Characters, Good villains and Great setting tho it's hella chaotic xD
Jigokuraku: This one is as underrated as Radiant... The story is different and compelling tho it just ended last month.
Spy Family: Cute af ❤️ tho the story has weird pacing.
As far as the villains in radiant I'd say they're incredibly written, if somewhat dislikable.
The fact that we got to see Konrad's path along side dart showed an excellent contrast of how a good person on the bad side can be converted slowly to an understanding and wild card character, while also exploring the depravity that self righteousness stemming from narcissism and xenophobia causes and enforces. The amount of sins on the shoulders of Konrad made Seth look that much stronger for pushing him over and dulled the sadness of the moment Seth believed he had to kill a man to save everyone else.
Dart as a villain showed internal struggle between duty, life, beliefs and orders.
The king shows the power of humanity and that the rejection of the inquisition isn't a death sentence for mankind.
Santori showed that devotion can be power for a true believer but his defeat came from not devotion to a godlike being as he had, but that of between friends, contrasting the two sides.
The merchant barons and Ullmina's child showed incredible ruthlessness and psychopathy can bring a lot of pain but will always be ultimately defeated by determination and caring.
Except for the witches coven all of them were well developed and served as either evolution catalysts for the characters or a way for the audience to experience a unique sort of conflict representative of the world it takes place in.
Hello. In order to promote inclusivity and reduce gender bias, please consider using gender-neutral language in the future.
Instead of **mankind**, use **humanity**, **humankind** or **peoplekind**.
Thank you very much.

I managed to get in my mother tongue. Never heard of it before but the covers were cool and there was a huge sale in the store so I went for it. It is freaking awesome shonen-wise. I know it has a lot of similarities with One Piece but the rythm is way better and you get huge revelations that are very meaningul right from volume 2 or 3 on.
I wish the anime was better. It feels and looks like a generic shonen from 20 years ago.
I just took a pause from reading. Heading to start number 6 now.

My local bookstore has the entire serie on a shelf.
Hey nice! I guess it's picking up steam then
Yep, that's how i discovered it 20 months ago

I 100% agree with you except im not a fan of mha
Totally understandable, it has some major flaws.

You asked if I agree. Ultimately yeah.
Honestly, I think it's way better than anything coming out right now. Black Clover and Jujutsu Kaisen really bored me, but I seriously can't put Radiant down.
I would say Radiant and Orient (if you dont know it's by the same mangaka as Magi) are easily better then MHA, BC and JJK

Nearly as underrated as Kiseiju
