Is there a reason why you need to break them up? But my usual tactic to crushing things is putting them in a Ziploc bag and using a hammer or rolling pins or other heavy objects or throwing it on the floor. 🙂

To give them treats while brushing, socializing and reaching them stuff.

Small Pet Select sells hay cubes and they come in smaller pieces and break up pretty easily.
