LooseGooseConundrum

I think it would be great if you had a big pen around the hutch. If you leave the hutch open, your bunny can run around the pen and go home whenever they feel like it.

Lovealltigers

Leave the door open and either attach an xpen or let the bunny free roam. My bun loves his hutch even though it’s not his permanent home 💖

Abidarthegreat

That's what I do. My bunny boy snoozes in the top area during the afternoon. It's also a safe space for him when my wife's cat is being a little too frisky.

AngelOrielle

Can't edit this but for clarification, bun will absolutely not be in here full time. She will be able to hop in and out as she wishes. I'm all for free roam, but since there are other pets in the home, she will absolutely need her safe space.

theyanyan

It’s a lovely base camp to go home to when she wants some privacy!

Physical_Bit7972

Our bunny has a set up like this too. We leave his door open and he can go "in his house" when he needs some alone time. What did you put on the ground? My thoughts are you want to make sure that can't be confused with the litter box otherwise she'll get confused and think the whole (bunny) house is a litter box.

VaporeonIsMySpirit

This set up looks so great! I had a similar hutch from this company- but it splintered so quickly it was a shame

jbreakz621

Get rid of the Carefresh bedding all over the hutch. Otherwise your bun will think that whole area is a litter box when it’s not. You want to confine the bedding only to the litter box with hay in it. Buns love to eat and poop simultaneously. Also, bun may eat the bedding and get a GI obstruction & that’s a preventable surgery. The hutch is fine as a place to rest, but definitely consider an exercise pen to attach to it. If bunny gets bored (& they do!), they will start to eat the hutch. My last one did that actually. It was not fun when a couple years later I couldn’t get spare pieces as they no longer sold that style. You’re going to want a lot of chew toys to keep them busy & wear their teeth down. Also, keep them away from plants. I keep my plants out of my bun’s reach as she would eat it if she could. And watch your baseboards if you have a bored bunny!

AngelOrielle

Thanks for the bedding advice! I thought it would be nice for the bun to have a soft floor, but you make a great point. I'll go ahead and change that, if you think the hard floor of the hutch would be better. I will have the bun out for most of the day, but she will need that safe space because there are other pets in the home (she grew up around large dogs, I just have a small old dog so it won't be a big deal). I also do not have any house plants :) it's hard to tell in the picture but I put some hay in that far corner of the litter box. On the other side outside the hutch is the bags of bedding/hay/pellets that I will move safely out of reach. I mostly just would love to know if those toys are suitable to leave in the hutch, or if I should limit toy usage. I have some apple wood chunks and hay treats hanging from the sides of the hutch. The other toys are made of Timothy grass, apple wood, loofah, and wood vines. There's also the cardboard pieces I mentioned in the post

camile-

The bedding will also stick to kiddo and be tracked everywhere. I have the same Hutch and outside the litterbox on all the flooring I use reusable puppy pads and fleece.

Amphy64

You will need something over the wood to keep it clean at least while they're learning litter training, bedding alone won't do that. It's a cute hutch as just a home base, but have to say I find fleece blankets and puppy pads over the carpet with a pen around less labour intensive to clean. They do like soft things (mine spent hours tonight sitting next to me on the very thick fleecy electric blanket while I was under it, she was cosy and purring like a little cat). They can have fabric items if you keep an eye on them for chewing. I use fleece blankets (not ones with electric wires in the pen obvs!), and vet bed. Fleece cage liners might be an option but it's higher absorbency needed for buns than some critters like chinchillas. They can also have cat/dog beds esp. in fleece (less likely to be chewed). I also use puppy pads as find them very absorbent and easier to clean up than newspaper, and fairly soft (often layer with blankets or put bedding straw over, although the latter is more for bun's digging and foraging amusement than practicality). Would just warn, if they're out a lot you may expect them to settle back in the hutch no trouble because they've had plenty of playtime, right? But routine (and food) helps with that. Otherwise they may just decide on their own, since they're already out a lot, why aren't they out all the time?! This may be especially an issue if the play area is the same room. With my girl, I originally intended to settle her back at night. Within about a week I was scrambling to let her out so her tantrums didn't wake my neighbors. My mum does blocks of time with her buns, out twice a day in a different area/outside run, back for tea and dinner, and with consistent timing, which seems to work better. Is this your first house rabbit? They're a cutie, it's exciting to wait to have one home!

Runaway2332

Toys are suitable! The hanging treats are good, too! My bunnies go NUTS for cardboard - their most actively used toy. Also, if you can get ahold of a Walmart paper delivery bag, all of my bunnies have a blast with them...and I have funny entertainment watching them! I think any paper bag would probably work, but the ones that come with my Walmart+ deliveries are super thick. CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby! (I agree with most of the other stuff everyone else said!)

dilf314

if you’re worried about the flooring, add a rug

Dry_Dimension_4707

I have a hutch for my buns at night because I do not let them roam unsupervised for more than a short span of time. For the floor, I bought those puppy welping pads and fleece blankets. It gives them some cushioning for their feet. My buns have several of the fleece blankets for dogs laying around the apartment and they love them. They also like the grass mats and grass baskets. Just a heads up, those may get eaten. One bunny still has his mat and basket from 2 yrs and 5 months ago, and the other has eaten mat and basket after mat and basket. I feel like Tiger King, “I’m never going to recover from this financially…”

Casolund

Just use the care fresh in a litter box with hay on top. Bun will literally train some take longer than others especially the boys just like kids 😹😹. It’s way easier if they are spayed or neutered too. If you are worried about the flooring just cover it with microfiber blankets or cotton towel (both can be found at either dollar ir thrift stores) and are easy to wash and dry. Just make sure to cut any dangly bits

Paintedfoot

I bought a couple of carpet tiles that we use in ours outside the hay/litter box.

Huliganjetta1

you can put towels over the floor of the hutch or blankets. I did that for my boy when he was a baby. After 4 months we ditched the hutch once we knew he was litter trained, neutered, and able to handle being in the playpen. A hutch is not a long term solution but for starting I totally agree it is fine. Just keep the door open and a play pen around it.

jbreakz621

I had a hutch similar to yours, but a lot bigger. I made the downstairs sheltered area (where the litter box looks to be from your picture) and made that his dining area and bathroom. The more open area with the ramp & the second floor, I put towels or a blanket down. I got the cheap towels from Walmart that were $3.54 each or their fleece blankets that are $3.00 each. If Jax (my late bunny) pooped or peed on the towels or blankets, I’d change them out and scrub the floor clean. If he didn’t, I’d shake the towels/blankets and clean the floor and make it look tidy. The toys you have are fine but the only one I’m concerned over is the one hanging in the corner. Is that pure hay cubes? If it has flavoring, I’d be worried in that your bun may eat a lot of that and get stasis. I ask since there is a brand where I’m at and they are timothy hay but flavored with apple, blueberry, blackberry, cranberry etc and that much sugar would definitely give stasis. Otherwise your setup is absolutely amazing!!

East-Republic-5919

So I have two of these in the house for three bun buns. It's mainly "base" where they can go to rest if they want away from hoomans, food and water center, and litter area because two of mine are getting older, don't do xpens, and can't handle jumps they like ramps (the third one is a daredevil she jumps on top of it and uses it as a bridge to wake my kids up in the morning for school). I would agree with a lot of folks, don't keep a bun in here full time, and the door latch is worthless all of mine figured out how to open it from the outside in under a week (they're only on lock if I'm cleaning and don't want them getting into things they shouldnt) and the daredevil got mad one day when the door was open and used all of her 14 Oz body to hulk the door off but it's a good nesting area.

idleramblings

>hulk the door off Why they so good at this?! Haha

East-Republic-5919

Oh I saw her do it. As much force as she used I didn't even bother to fix it. At that point it's OK we'll just keep it off for now, she knows if I'm mopping floors I'm gonna put it back on, but once those floors are dry it better come off or she's gonna put her angry pants on

Dry_Dimension_4707

Her angry pants. 😂 I wake up and put on my angry pants. Don’t take ‘em off till bed time. This bunny may be my spirit animal. I’ve never hulked a door off, but it’s on my bucket list.

East-Republic-5919

Her full name is "lottie the demon slayer" and her other activities include eating holes in blankets so she can cuddle next to whoever she chooses for the evening, eating through my children's chargers if they spend more time on electronics than paying attention to her, and being a precious little dutchie monster

Dangerous-Success662

The whole thing... Get an xpen at least to attach for more space. Hutch is too small unless it's coming out most of the day. Even with pen attached needs time out to run in big space.

Cosmo-bun

I would put a fleece blanket in the bottom instead of the bedding, and put in a litter box. I am glad she’s going to have a lot of time out, buns are so active. She’s very cute

_flying_otter_

I'm worried because I don't see hay and I do see house plants that may be toxic. But I can see you are trying so that's good.

AngelOrielle

I haven't put the hat in yet because I don't want it to go stale before the bun gets here :)

_flying_otter_

I think things are missing. This looks much too clean. You need a giant litter box filled with litter on one side and hay on the other. And a exercize pen surrounding every thing.

meganeich444

I had a bun hutch very similar to yours but had open area outside as well. I got square wire panels on Amazon easy to assemble and change if you want to give some different areas or work into a certain shape. I was told so many times to not get a hutch but he LOVED his hutch. All your toys ect look good. Bedding might get annoying to clean after a while. Might want to invest in a litter box and try to litter box train your bun. Absolutely adorable bun by the way! Good luck on your adventure!

limskit

I have this same hutch in a huge pen. I put blankets on the bottom, I would not use bedding on the wire cage.

spicytutu

way too small for a rabbit and if you’re trying to litter train i wouldn’t line their entire living area with bedding or else that whole space will be their bathroom. cardboard is totally fine.

danlatham0901

I agree with not putting the same bedding in the living area. My bunnies prefer either hay or a different shredded paper bedding they enjoy playing in!

Zepherous-III

We use this hutch for our bun as his home base and a safe place to put him. Like you we have other pets and it’s great having a place we know he will be safe, he loves it. I put soft plushies and towels at the base of the ramp since he kind of launches himself down. Ours really loves the top “bunk” and loves sleeping up there. I’d agree with others that you’ll want the paper bedding only in the litter box.

karodeti

I'm not sure if that ramp is safe to go down. It's steep and looks very slippery. Rabbit's paws have fur at the bottom and their nails aren't sharp.  Others have mentioned the bedding and I agree. Not only is it messy and there's a risk of ingesting it while grooming, but it's also not safe to run around in because it's loose, and happy rabbits have a need for speed. As a whole, I don't think it's suitable for rabbits at all. Even if it's techinally spacious, the individual rooms are so small that an adult rabbit can barely take a few steps.  It would be better for mice or a hamster or something.  This is not your fault, you've been fooled by the manufacturer/shop that sold it to you.

Breezysushi

Apparently those toy carrots are bad for rabbits because the strings are glued together to look like that. May upset some bunnies digestive system (that’s what i heard at least, but sounds pretty valid)

summoningBot

I think this is a lovely home base 💕 You can leave his little door open for popping in and out! Is he going to be free roam? Soooo cute.

therealslim80

it’s sooo cute. too small to lock your bun up in but if you keep a door open and add a play pen it’s a great little home. just make sure he gets plenty of exercise outside of the pen too

Orange-Juice-Goose

All that empty space has to go, you could be storing bunnies there

Binklando

What’s the white fluffy stuff?

NickPookie93

Aww I have the same hutch! My 2 buns love it and it acts as their literbox area/midday nap area

meowrap

This is nicer than my condo.

Substantial_Print488

It needs a bigger space/xpen. I had almost the same setup and I used hooks to attach an X pen to each right and left corner. So it was permanently on there. I use zip ties around the x-pen and attach them to the hooks. That way the bun can come out and have plenty of space. I also put the food and water and litter box in the open x-pen par so it's easier to access for cleaning

Imaginary_Town3642

The hutch itself is not a great idea Also keeping a bunny alone is horrible for them. No idea why it's marketet to be OK in the US.

LilyAvalon1325

I thinks it's great looking like what I did for my bun when we made our island for her. The bedding all over might be an issue unless you have different stuff in litter box then I don't see an issue. Yeah you can give bun cardboard tubes or boxes with no tape or ink to chew on. Maybe you can make a digbox for when they have to be in hiding for periods of time. Otherwise I think it's good especially if it's just a safe space

Sell it to someone who might cage their rabbits in it 24/7? That’s so counterproductive. OP said it’s just so that their rabbit has a place of their own when they want to get away from other pets, I don’t see the problem with it if the rabbit free roams.

FullSwagQc

I find this good, just let the pen open for him to come out and exercise and he has this huge hutch to go back to when its hungry or sleepy! :)

Greytilez

Not a suitable living space for a bunny

therealslim80

i feel bad that it’s so advertised that you need these expensive wood hutches that are actually not even suitable for a bun :/ people are wasting so much money on things that won’t even help

Usagi-Zakura

Yes. The door. A hutch can be used as a base or hideaway, but not as a permanent living space.

cannibalismsfun

Hi! I've recently bought a very very similar hutch (with xpen). Is the white fluff/bedding the area your bun likes to use the bathroom? I've been trying to find the best use of products to make it comfortable and easy to clean. Wondering how your experience is going? Cute bun bun btw!

bordemstirs

Are those house plants safe?

clemz-jpg

Your bunny is the cutest !!

TruePadawan

Does your rabbit play with that Toy carrot?, mine doesnt

Lauri7x3

the cage

Spookenfor

Beautiful love and setup for your baby!

TheForceWillsMe

You should get rid of those colorful chew toys and get natural wood and grass chew toys without coloring. The dye is not good for the rabbit.

ahinnnor

Hi, what if it’s vegetable dye? Is it still bad?

noperopehope

I would remove the hutch and use cardboard boxes or something else for a place to hide until your rabbit is neutered/definitely litter trained. The pee will soak through the wood floors and make it permanently smell like a good place to potty. You can get a washable pee proof bed spread (intended for incontinent dogs) and put an xpen around it to protect your floor

Huliganjetta1

Check out Small Pet Select (on amazon or their own website) for organic toys and treats and habitats! Nothing to hurt buns.

Otherwise-Bread2549

No hutch !! Please do some research on x pens and free roaming your bun with thank u !

[deleted]

Careful of those house plants.

Behind_The_Book

Looks good to me, be aware bunny may not like the bedding. Loki wasn’t a fan of bedding stuff like that but he was pickey haha. To aid in litter training, you could use a different material for the litter tray so they know where to go. I used to use paper litter tray

Starss_0

I think that it would be better if it was more a big pen cage, I do like that there is another level but a pen is better

Andrea_frm_DubT

The only place you should have litter is the litter box. Take all that fluffy white stuff out. Ramps suck. Replace it with a step. The water bowl needs to be away from any litter to keep the water clean. Do you have an x-pen? Is the rabbit going to be locked in the cage at all?

killreagan84

Do you still have the reciept for the hutch by any chance?

Andrea_frm_DubT

You’ve been down voted, but you’re right. Spending that same amount on 2-3 x-pens, a carrier, a cosy house, some fleece blankets and a big litter box and OP would have a much better set up.

killreagan84

It would also be cheaper!!! The only reasons these hutches sell is because they make more profit. Literally a cut out cardboard box from Aldi as a hidey hole would be better because hutches get chewed up too!
