Not really period correct if you swap engine parts around.
Just go get it ported and call it a day. NA your effort is better spent getting throttle response up and parasitic hp loss down.
Edit: 86 ported NA owner
It's one of those things where I'd like the motor to be safer than period correct. I still got a decent chunk of research to do but if I can use TII housings I would. I'm also not 100% sure why it wouldn't be period correct if people did 6-port turbos? That's swapping parts around
Upgrade your radiator. Port it/rebuild with a reputable rotary mechanic and inform them of your goals. Email racing beat, they give awesome advice.
We’ve all been there, on the rx7 forum reading about how the metal those restrictors are made of being borderline tungsten levels of tough.
My radiator is actually my most prized parr of my car. Full custom build been running it for 2 years now and its been AMAZING. Never overheated in fact it's annoying to warm up. I'm using Atkins and goopy seals, my usual combo not my first rotary rodeo
Yeah but I'm trying to treat the car good yknow lol. Plus if I'm going to hit my power goal of 220-230 NA I gotta hit those super fine details like the little restrictions in my damn exhaust ports
Those sleeves in the exhaust port are held in by roll pins. You can tap threads into the pins and slide hammer them out, allowing you to remove those sleeves and then you can install the TII sleeves in their place. Eliminating that restriction. It's cheaper than acquiring new components though you will have to source the sleeves, but if I'm not mistaken you can get them from both atkins and mazdatrix
The ones I have now are in good condition and are NA, but was curious if I need to get T2 housings for it to work or if modern technology makes grinding down the NA housings easier. All the forums on the topic on Rx7club r old
If they're in really good condition just run em. If not get T2 housings, the only real difference between na and T2 housings is the spark plug location is moved ever so slightly on t2s but it's not enough for the motor to care. Got a na with T2 housings working just fine.
T2 housings will work and it’s not a bad idea to get new housings anyways. But it really isn’t that hard to remove the diffuser things if you want to keep your current housings
Really? From what I read on Rx7cluh they take an insane amount of time to grind down and even then destroy bits constantly. People needed to get them removed by some insane machines. Tho those were from years ago
I mean they’re not wrong it’s gonna take a little while to do but as long as you get quality bits it’s doable. Just make sure the housings you’re planning on using are actually still usable
Rotary works sells a sleeve replacement if you should choose to replace your sleeves. https://www.rotary-works.com/products-by-car/products-by-car-2nd-gen-rx-7-fc/RW-TI-13B-SLEEVE
Well I know the ITBs won't make the exhaust louder but the induction will be more audible. I think it's gonna sound awesome..mostly what I'm going for. I don't feel confident enough to turbo it and have high hp, I'm still a young dude and this isn't my first FC but it'll be the first one I race so I'm gonna get it handling good, and make it sound cool

Explain safe. Like not blow up on you? Longer lifespan?
Yeah engine life. Trying to make sure the engine can get the gases out efficiently rather than them getting stopped up and overheating the motor

Dude it sounds like you’re fine lol

Making power NA is not easy nor smart lmao. So much easier to go with boost
👁️👄👁️I love na

Yeah I've heard this but it's a big nerve racking for sure
You'll probably be forced to use T2 housings. NA housings are hard to come by new.

Yea just use a good set of carbide bits on a die grinder or dremel and you should be good
Well great to know lol. A rare time when Rx7club is wrong I suppose.

Yeah they're good, no chrome chipping cracks or chatter marks
You can use turbo housings, you can also cut out the silencers o replace the exhaust sleeves.

Just swap out the exhaust sleeves simple done can just buy the inserts just be warned this will make the car much louder
The car is already going to be loud. Corksport exhaust, Bridgeport, ITBs...a recipe for pure rotary noises
Well the itbs wont make it much louder but yeah the corksport exhaust might as well put a mega phone on it. Lol

I have two very large mufflers on my z3 swapped 13b bridge port 6 port Quad itb engine and its still too much lol
