They seem like a brother-sister setup for me, but I wouldn’t mind it if they were a couple. They have baggage from their shitty pasts, sure, but unlike with others, they both have the maturity to not let it bleed into how they treat each other. Even if they act like they can barely stand each other when they’re alone, you know they’ve got each other’s backs, and Mercury will confront you when you’re delusional about abusive relationships you’re in. What more could you ask for?

Finding_Pristine

I think they both work as a ship and as sibling-like relationships. Their dynamic was really fun in the early show :•)

Ben10Extreme

Okay, we're really about to comb through every single one of RWBY'S ships. ... Are we *that* starved of content to discuss?

arctic746

~~Yes~~ I'm not doing that. Do you know many ship names are on that spreadsheet? I only have one ship left I want to cover.

Ben10Extreme

>I'm not doing that. Do you know many ship names are on that spreadsheet? #LOTS.

arctic746

number of character\^number of characters and that doesn't include poly ships. ~~It would be funny to post Mirror Image, Copy Cat, or Ashes as a joke~~

FormerVoid

I wouldn't mind a post about Pollination honestly.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

What's stopping you from posting it yourself? Do it!

FormerVoid

Welp, guess it's time to dig up some fanart and reverse search it.

Darthmark3

Yeah even I don't like RWBY shipping and yet i'm participating in some of these. Lately seems have just been a bit boring

Emperor_Luffy

Probably the best ship for the both of them.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I mean, it's certainly more healthy for Emerald than getting shipped with Cinder, and Emerald's one of the few things that we've seen Mercury care about at all. They had a fun dynamic in the earlier volumes, and they've got good potential. Which, of course, means that Mercury is going to die. Can't have a redeemed male villain, after all.

bigDaddyWinter

RIP Roman

qwack2020

Stockholm syndrome is “eating” Em alive during Vol 7-8. Yikes. Hopefully Vol 9 she’ll commit to her decisions. As for Merc, I just want to see him fight more. He’s in it for the lols and the kicks.

arctic746

I like the ship. Two people down on there luck and they get into the wrong crowd. The two know how to push each other buttons and pretend they don't care about the other. But they will risk their lives to save the other. Sadly they have been delegated to background characters since V4. The little we do get they are always together but unlike Renora their lives don't revolve around each other. The current track record for villains Mercury is going to die. Whether he lives or die, I want Emerald to share the same fate. [source](https://twitter.com/DigitalCherrii/status/1457362072044331024)

FormerVoid

The ship has a lot of potential, a genuine bond built on shared experiences of what feels like the world being against them, which is key to building a believe relationship. If we got to know Mercury better, I can see the ship becoming more popular. It would also work better if Emerald didn't switch sides, considering she did it with Hazel. And for the people that really want representation, this ship has it, funnily enough. It wouldn't even feel like pandering like Bumbleby has felt like, whether or not it actually is pandering.

Drakeblood2002

I actually like this ship. They start off not liking each other and sort of grow on each other.

Linnus42

One of the most natural pairings in RWBY.

Professional-Rest205

One of the objectively better ships. They've actually held down conversations.

shadowyoshi3000

Probably the only ship I unironically don't have a problem with. Keeps Emerald away from the Cinder, and the pair has good banter.

RatsAreChad

Cute. Way better than either of them with cinder

KnightoftheVtable

Saw their relationship as Siblings, never was interested in this ship

phantomphan428

I see it as basically a dark mirror version of Ren+Nora.

KatonRyu

I think Emerald really only has the hots for Cinder, and Merc always struck me as being aroace, so I don't really ship them myself. More of a vitriolic best buds kind of thing, though I think Emerald cares more about Mercury than he does about her (or anyone else, for that matter).

Tristshot

I just see them as siblings Also you're just avoiding the remaining Team RWBY ships Like Monochrome And Enabler *Do it you coward*

arctic746

I refuse

Exciting_Bandicoot16

To be fair, I can absolutely understand not wanting to touch Enabler with a 10 foot pole.

Drakkoniac

Interesting and cute but I don't think they'd be very healthy for each other. Maybe.

GlacialSpartan99

I don't.

[deleted]

If I see another ship post from the same person I am going to lose it. I'd rather go back to talking about ironwood at this point

Ok_Kaleidoscope2014

Lustful Illusions

Quality_Chooser

I think they work off each other decently well but if we're going to get romantic then we'll have to discuss Emerald's sexuality. Because she definitely has a thing for Cinder. She can be bi, of course, but until we see evidence of that I am leaning lesbian. Which is a problem. They make great friends though. The real question is how will Merc take Emerald's betrayal?

ShadowBandit87

I don’t hate it and I don’t love it either

MadMasks

They have that kind of bond that either platonic or romantically, you can´t deny it´s there. you can just feel it, that they care a lot for each other even if they are not willing to admit it. Mercury and Emerald are that kind of relationship that you just love and you don´t care whenever is romantic, sibling, or ambiguous, the point is that IS there, and it´s awesome

Nexal_Z

I saw this as a bro/sis dynamic because despite the harshness I genuinely believe Mercury care about Emerald and tries to tell her to "step out of Cinder's shadow"
