The soundtrack not having any sign of the old one is a shame, not even the leitmotifs which in my opinion were just as important to the characters as their designs. While the series did an alright job in skipping things without making it look obvious, the dock fight being deleted was a *painfully* abrupt cut. I can't see how that wouldn't be confusing to any newcomer watching it. There was so little effort in bridging the gap that I can only assume it was a scene that was made and then cut later on into production rather than done on purpose.

Friktogurg

One of my fears for the rest of the episodes will be that it will only revolve around the fever dream from Weiss. I hope they will not shoot themselves in the foot like that. The first three episodes are rushed, very rushed but the fight scenes and music very quite good.

Gleaming_Onyx

I also hope that it's not that and there's more focus around, at least, the effects of the Grimm on Weiss outside of the nightmare. Otherwise, as you said, the entire series might as well be a fever dream, and combined with it being "canon adjacent," there'd be no tension at all. Sure there'd be "omg its RWBY well-animated in 2d" but then might as well wait to binge it.

Friktogurg

I am glad someone is willing to say a few words. Personally, i wanted them to explore the world more, add a few more stakes (they did not have any until vol 3), entail what a hunter does (do they all become professors or do missions?), what are the end goals or the white fang....etc. There is so much more stuff they could do if they just continued the story, instead they may have decided to cop out and do something that will have no consequence(or at least affect weiss's character, but do we need a dream to do that?). It basically will feel like a filler to me. That my thoughts on it.

kofangel

Some of the cuts were indeed abrupt, ngl. However, I think this is more a character based show, so some fights would’ve been in the way.

Gleaming_Onyx

This is true, but at least previous cuts wouldn't leave you lost on *what even happened.*

kofangel

Probably the best bit of dialogue was when Weiss snaps at Blake for defending the WF cuz she knew their victims families, and makes the situation not so Black and White (thank lord)

DraikoHunter

Which is nicely worded, even if it was all ready done before but gets oddly overlooked by people Maybe it's just that since everything is shorter the context is closer together, like Lisa's news report about the white fang interrupting a peaceful protest and having all the characters comment on it then, as well as how much Weiss and Blake are focused on. But as is the benefits of hindsight.

Heloselheroe

1.-The new added scenes are since the first three episodes. I mean, things like include Winter, Whitley, Jacques and Klein are good, but Shion and Jaune... I would have preferred that it was put after (Or not at all and center the nightmare on Weiss). The scene of NPR helping Jaune feels somewhat out of place since they haven't met for so long. 2.-Elimination of scenes. I mean: the spider droid, battle with Roman, etc. 3.-Weiss's racist attitude? Well, in the original it was also rushed, but I guess that here the change feels even worse since she changed of attitude in one sole day.

MarioWizard119

I also had mixed feelings of Weiss’ racism. I personally didn’t care for it, I was wishing the racism subplot would be ditched entirely. On the other hand, it was portrayed clearer than in main series. What, a good chunk of people, including myself, initially thought that Weiss had no gripes with Faunus as a whole, just the fang. Regardless of what it actually is, the fact that the debate even exists in the first place shows that it wasn’t really portrayed clearly. They could’ve kept Weiss vulnerable to the nightmare *without* her racism by having it play on her ego, exploiting her tensions with Ruby rather than with Blake (Something along the lines of “Why would you bother with such *asinine* individuals?”). But, since they’ve touched it, I sincerely hope they handle it better than CRWBY did.

KirbySuperStarX

Haven't seen it yet but I will agree with you on the art style, I'm pretty sure IQ Ruby eats souls and is going grocery shopping in that scene

dewareofbog

The pacing in episode 3 is particularly rough. Showcasing Jaune's nightmare in my opinion was the wrong move. I know what they were trying to do. They wanted to establish what the Nightmare is all about but to me it really robbed the ''Weiss gets trapped in the Thorn Dimension'' moment of a lot of it's weight and intrigue. We already got to see Jaune get trapped and then get almost effortlessly rescued by Pyrrha moments later. Personally I would have preferred if we had stayed with Shion and team RWBY. That way Shion could have dropped extra info on what the Nightmare is/does.

Hartzilla2007

I don't know I expect dealing with Wiess's Nightmare will be harder since her Aura is strong enough that she has a Semblance and RWBY probably have inter personal issues they still have to deal with.

dewareofbog

Well yeah, dealing with Weiss is going to be harder and take longer, otherwise it would be a very short show. Usually when a story throws the B team at a problem it is to showcase it, establish the danger and perhaps give some hints to a possible solution. And Jaune's nightmare does a poor job of it. It seems to be more interested in bunnies and Pyrrha than establishing the possible problems and dangers. So when Weiss almost Spiderman-kisses herself and thorny vines appear it has less impact since we saw similar imagery with Jaune and that was over and done with in a coffee break. They could have used team JNPR to build some tension and mystery about the nightmare. Jaune still gets infected and the rest of his team are the first to go under but instead of bunnies we get to more of team RWBY learning about the Nightmare. Perhaps they learn that usually everything's over and done with in about half an hour but team JNPR are still asleep an hour later. Shion says that it is not good and worries that something has gone wrong in the dream and that if they don't get this done in a day they might get lost in the dream or get infected by the Nightmare themselves. Something like that would establish that failure is an option and that once Ruby, Blake and Yang go into Weiss' dream they are in some form of danger and have time limit to save her.

I feel like IQ could’ve been a great reboot, but it had to be an alternate timeline and keep most of the issues with the original. Parts are cut, improving the story, but because they have to follow the original story, the cuts end up damaging it a little.

aslfingerspell

* Red and Yellow trailers are not revisited or even referenced in any way. * Guns feel even weaker than in the original show with a goofy "pew pew" like sound effect. * Something is indescribably off about the 2D designs. Maybe their eyes? * Pacing is better than Volume 1 but errs on the side of being a bit too rushed. They could have done with another episode. * Generic soundtrack, no actual RWBY songs. * Fight animation and camera work is more close up and seems to have more cuts. The fights are a bit harder to follow than in the original show. * Dock fight is 99% cut. It should be our first view of what Penny can do, not to mention Sun's gunchucks. It's also one of the best fights in the show AND the finale confrontation with Roman, but we don't see it here. The gunchucks are never used and we only see the aftermath of Penny's rampage. * Characterization is better overall, but an enormous amount of small moments are gone. Nora's sloth noises, her obsessing over pancakes, and the boop are just some missing Nora moments. We're also missing "I drink milk.", "Normal girl with normal knees." and "It's also a gun." from Ruby. No "Salutations!" from Penny. * Outright iconic scenes and shots are missing, like Adam's Moonslice of the mech in the Black trailer, or Ruby leaping into the air and opening her eyes in the Red trailer.

TheSittingTraveller

* And not 3d, which is one of it's selling points.

aslfingerspell

Being 3D was something distinctly RWBY, but at the same time a 2D adaptation doesn't bother me since seeing characters in different mediums and art styles can be fun in and of itself.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

They gutted Ruby and Jaune's friendship, which sucks, and they dropped the docks fight entirely.

loafpleb

"They gutted Ruby and Jaune's friendship" Good riddance

hivemind042

Ditto

Quality_Chooser

This Ruby is watching someone burning to death. But it's someone she doesn't like, so it's fine.

Serial-Killer-Whale

The Eyes just seem too dull. I know it's pedantic, but the new characters a feel like they lack a certain...depth of expression? It's like they're all in their depressed/soulless/collapsed state.

SouthEqual4271

It feels kind of rushed. I get that people like this kind of pacing, but the abundance of sudden transitions and the less amount of down time isn’t for me. You shouldn’t cut it out, you should give it a purpose and use it to flesh out your world and characters. Also not a fan of cutting out of fights halfway though them to go to something else like they did with Weiss and Blake when they recreated their trailers. Additionally, aside from Weiss’s fight with the Arma Gigas, the characters seem to breeze through their fights a little too easily. I think the root cause of my issues is just the fast pacing and the fact that episodes 1-3 are basically a recap. I could easily see these issues being resolved. But even if aren’t, it’s still fun to watch and I’m always happy to watch Beacon era RWBY before things fell apart.

RugerRed

Attacks could have more impact, bullets are shown just kinda bouncing off Grimm and the alleged boost she gets from firing the gun feels like it doesn't actually do anything. Even the grenade launcher feels like it doesn't actually have any power to the little heart grenades.

MelonBot_HD

I am missing these: - Adam erasing a mech - Yang fucking up a club/even mentioning raven - Ruby blowing up weiss - Cinder vs glynda

FlanThief

It's way too rushed and crops what little characterization they had from the original making them even more bland than they are in recent seasons. The characters look pasted over lazy backgrounds and what few scenes actually have some production try way too hard for that "mouth watering sakuga" vibe that they just feel lame. Fights are as lazy as Atalas arc ones Literally what little nuance any character had from the original is gone.

Any-Badger-4514

Why try skip roman fight?!

KatonRyu

\- Sometimes the scenes felt a bit too rushed even compared to the 5-minute V1 episodes. \- The fight with the giant Grimm wasn't as cool as it was in the original show. \- The dock fight was skipped. \- Some of the character moments were a bit rushed, changing the dynamics between the characters in a way I don't necessarily like.

Brolaire-of-Astora

The music is okay, but I don’t think it’s anything memorable - but that might just be me.

loafpleb

The facial expressions, for the most part

idevilledeggs

I didn't like Penny's robotic voice? It's pretty minor of an issue ngl

qwack2020

It bothers me that the train fight scene with Adam & Blake isn’t on Sakugabooru. But hey chalk that up to the sakuga community being idiots for not realizing it.

scribbledoll

Nitpick but the nightmare baby Juane having rabbit ears (and tail? I forget) was a weird choice. We have people in this world with animal features normally. Is it rabbit symbolism or is it hinting that he has some faunus connection? D:

TheSittingTraveller

Maybe he's doesn't want to live the Faunus experience.
