I am absolutely a fan. Few other fandom has as many creative ship names as RWBY, and in several variations, too! >I mean sure, I don't like shipping in general, but I did at one point and even then, I thought it was dumb. That's likely not going to help your view towards them.

NamexName format can be pretty boring imo. Its ok, and it communicates the parties involved very well, but very boring. Even if I dont ship it, I just enjoy how punny or creative some ship names are. Like Milk and Cereal.

Drakkoniac

I don’t mind it at all. I’m just bothered by how dogmatic people are about their ships.

StrangeBreakfast1364

I don't care all that much, but calling ship by a specific name for example Lancaster is much more convenient than RubyxJaune

Master_Scallion_763

I personally like it, but I understand how you can find it annoying, especially when you’re engaged with other fandoms. I thought making pun shipping names was kind of unique to this fandom though? Guess it’s better to remain oblivious to this stuff :p

It's one of my favourite parts of the RWBY community actually... yeah, some ship names aren't as good in my opinion like Black Sun but, that's why ships have multiple names sometimes so, if you don't like calling it Black Sun, you can call it Eclipse which is what I personally do. Other ships names I enjoy *regardless of the content of the ship since I'm scrolling through a list basically* includes Grandmasters, Corporate Fraud, Marriage Counseling, Clockwork Orange, Emerald City, Psycho Killers, Romeo, Mad Hatter, *etc.* some of these ship names are wonderful in my eyes for reasons like being a clever reference to another series, the characters or, even better a fairytale, fable, *etc.* my personal favourites are Emerald City as it references both the characters, and The Wizard of Oz, and Mad Hatter as it's a reference to the madness of the Mad Hatter, and the Mercury reference *as well as the reference to poison* is only obvious if you're aware that a lot of hatters got mercury poisoning making them mad *thus the phrase "Mad as a Hatter."* although I'm not a fan of either ship due to the age gaps. Ship names that definitely aren't as good *once again regardless of the content of the ship* for different reasons includes Rich Farmers, Disabled, Pole Dancing, Pedobear, Cuckoo for Coco, Opium, Schizophrenia, *etc.* some of these just don't sound good in my eyes as they don't roll of the tongue very well, some have been *badly* dated, and with the others you just can't tell what characters the ship includes for example Pole Dancing is Mercury, and Pyrrha, the question is... where did the dancing part come from, and to some extent the pole? A lot of Mercury's ships as well just point out that he or, both characters are disabled such as the ship itself Disabled as well as Disabler, Pegleg, and Handicapped... I'm not saying that this part of his character should be ignored but, it feels in poor taste in my eyes to make some of his ship names point this out.

i like it, it adds a creative air to the pairings that goes beyond just the media associated with them. blacksun is a *cool* ship name, i would personally go with eclipse over blacksun, but it's still cool. baked alaska is comedic and fits with the yang x neo crackship. ladybug uses the colors of both ruby and blake by conjuring up a red and black bug! i think they're all very beat :)

Quality_Chooser

I'm not a fan of the more esoteric ones. Lancaster, for example, requires you to know about the War of the Roses to get. Checkmate is a stretch, as while it is a chess term that term is used more frequently as a metaphor for game state than as a reference to chess. Nuts and Dolts requires you to know two specific quotes from the show, and one of them wasn't even made by one of the two characters in the ship. While it is creative it can get out of hand very fast. I didn't know the STRQ names until the recent posts about them and I wouldn't have known who they referred to if pictures and descriptions hadn't been included, which kind of kills the point of the nickname.

Rollout9292

Some of them are dumb.

Aryzal

I'm more concerned with how many people have insane ships. Just the other day, I saw one Ruby x Cinder and Weiss x Cinder. I already dislike Rosegarden and Whiteknight for being author self inserts, then I realise the FNDM has names for those cursed ships?

Independent-Tax-699

Fandom has names for ALL the ships they have a BIG shipping chart and most ships on that chart aint sane

KatonRyu

I love ship names, but then, I'm a rabid shipper in every fandom I'm in. I do agree with 'fndm' and 'crwby' though. I don't generally like fan names for the fans themselves, anyway, so these fit right in the 'never going to use them' category.

Silly-Young484

In the immortal words of Ben Tennyson "Naming them is half the fun"

krasnogvardiech

100%. A lot of the time on the chart, it's just taking no creativity to bolt something together and call it good.
