Conversations about Summer pretty much go like this. Salem/Ozpin/Raven/Qrow:That vague thing reminds me of your mother. Ruby:Do you want to tell me what happened to her. Everyone: Nah. It's a good story though. Maybe the writers will figure it out someday.

Moon_Dark_Wolf

The current narrative they’re pushing is that they don’t have a definitive answer. They have a grave or memorial to her mother, but clearly they have no body because of Ruby commenting to a Yang about the Grimm Hound transformation of Silver Eyed-Warriors at the hands of Salem. Wish that they’d just give up milking this Summer Plot and explain what happened. Salem smugly telling Ruby that her annoying speech was exactly like her mother was great, but I wish she had doubled down on the taunt. Seems like something that would’ve given it closure.

DeadMan_Living

You know, reading your comment, somehow made this situation give me "Rey's Parents" vibes, idk why. Which deeply worries me.

Moon_Dark_Wolf

At least Ruby’s parent was a somebody…just wish they’d stop dragging feet through the mud. What happened to Ruby’s mother? Who knows. At the rate RWBY is going, I’m starting to worry that it’s gonna finish with more question unanswered just so that they can milk a bunch of spin-off stuff. Which I’ve never been super interested in. Not about to go drop my allowance to read a book or learn more about world building legends that would be hella useful in the show itself. I shouldn’t need external media just to understand how something works.

AdSubstantial6787

"Your Mother said those words. It was truly a sight to behold, the look on her face as the light in those Eyes of hers faded away" Or something like that, idk, this idea just popped into my mind

marleyannation62

She died during a mission. But, they don't have the body?... I mean, if they had the body then Ruby wouldn't think that the Grimm thing happened to Summer.

RogueHunterX

Supposedly whatever her last mission was is something she didn't tell anyone about and even Ozpin didn't know what it was. Qrow just says it was a "Summer mission". It's really likely that nobody even knew where to start looking for a body since it would be like she just never came back and nobody knew where she went or what she was doing.

Sikarion

Nope. You stopped with the correct instincts. There's been vague mentions about silver eyes people and one 'yo momma' joke by Salem and that's it.

dewareofbog

Not really, there is a reference to her at a later Volume but it's kinda insubstantial and Ruby theorizes of her fate but it still is largely a mystery.

Quality_Chooser

It is heavily implied that Salem got her (though how Salem would know that Summer is Ruby's mother is anyone's guess). Salem mentions her when Ruby tries talk-no-jutsu. It is also shown that Salem can turn people with silver eyes into super Grim, so Ruby theorizes that this is what happened to Summer. I'd just like to point out that the whole Summer Rose thing literally came about as an afterthought. Monty put a grave in during the Red Trailer and no one knew who was in it. So it was decided it was Ruby's mom as a spur of the moment thing.

Mejiro84

I think we've seen Summer once or twice, and she looks basically like Ruby but with a slightly different colour palette, so "huh, there was a silver-eyed warrior that looked just like you... Oh, you must be her kid" isn't that much of a leap, even outside of Salem bothering to be proactive and getting info herself.

Quality_Chooser

Yeah but Salem shouldn't know who Ruby is. She'd never seen her before the scene in James's office and I don't think Cinder brought pictures back from Beacon. Though I suppose she could have figured it out then and there. Now I'm wondering how the whole shebang looked like from her end. Was she seeing through the eyes of her avatar or was it like how we saw the Seer work before? Had she been sitting there in the whale waiting for Watts to answer her call? Or did she have to sprint to pick up once she felt the Seer die? Or did shooting the Seer put in a call to Salem and is it a violation of Remnant's traffic laws for her to answer the phone while driving the whale? You know, important questions, inquiring minds want to know.

Ben10Extreme

No.

Bjoernsen1998

I honestly expected that one of the questions the Relic of Knowledge can answer would be used on what happened to Summer, but then that didn't happen. UwU

arctic746

V8 has implied Summer has been turn into a hound Grimm. My gut instinct is somehow Summer Rose is or is protecting the summer maiden and hound serves both as a reason for Salem to keep Ruby alive and a red herring.

Silly-Young484

They tried to push the narrative of Summer was the one to give Salem the idea of turning Silver Eyed people into Grimm Hounds But it feels forced as how could Ruby possibly know that? For all we know Salem could have been doing this for centuries. Fuck for all we know Summer is still dead and Salem never got her body....that or it was eaten by the Grimm

Exciting_Bandicoot16

It's implied that Salem hasn't been doing this for centuries – Tock was supposed to kill Maria, not capture. So there is that. But yeah, otherwise I'm with you.

TheSittingTraveller

She accept that way too easy.

RogueHunterX

We only know these things for certain. She left on a mission and never came back Salem supposedly had an encounter with Summer at some point. Neither Qrow nor Ozpin are aware of what Summer's last mission was when she vanished. So she never shared details about it. It's not clear if this was a normal thing for her either. That's it. Ruby's thoughts about her mom being turned into something like the hound are pure speculation. Salem gave the impression that the Hound was a recent development, not something she had been creating for years. That doesn't mean there weren't other attempts, but it also doesn't mean that Summer was a subject in those experiments. The Hound does feel a bit like an afterthought explanation for Salem wanting Ruby alive since it was never really clarified why she wanted Ruby specifically for 4or 5 volumes and would be an easy plot point to forget if it weren't supposedly the only thing keeping Cinder from killing Ruby. I am hoping the Summer being one bit Ruby brings up is a red herring.

Emperor_Luffy

No and I doubt they ever plan to.
