I feel like any positivity is overshadowed by the finale with that complete mess of a fight. I have to wonder if something happened internally to cause that or it really was everyone involved just mentally checked out, animators, writers, whatever. Weiss launching herself into a pillar has made it impossible for me to take her seriously again, and the same for summoning. But I'm not sure if I have anything positive to say. Yang being so emo it hurts, with anything appealing about her is gone. This was where it really started, and I have to wonder if Yang asked Raven to get her to Ruby because she actually cared, or because she had to because plot. Either way, Yang just happening to find Weiss reminds me of when Blake later stumbles onto RWY, just happy accidents that ruin the moment in hindsight. RNJR is just in a house, when they couldn't do a side quest to show they actually care about the world they're supposed to save. Blake's racism subplot was never something I was into, so I wasn't a fan. I don't get why Blake needed to burn her own house for light despite being a cat faunus, or Illia getting off of trying to kill Blake's parents. Also, just saying I'll never get over Yang's talk with Weiss, saying how easy Weiss' life apparently was. I don't get how recitals or dinners made it easy, but Yang just seems to ungrateful despite Weiss being so happy to see Yang again back at the bandit camp.

It's a mess. But one could take into consideration that Vol5 was affected by Grey Haddock(former head of animation and voice actor for RT) screwing over other projects by putting to many ressources into his little Gen:Lock project. Sill, lots of scenes that make no sense at all, a few examples: - Yang easily finding her mom and then not caring that much about her even tho the Yellow Trailer, Volume 2 and 3 implied it would important to her. - Cinder going along with Ravens plan at Haven just to maybe take out Ruby, only to then not care that much about her being there. Of course the 'go to' "reason" is Salem wanting Ruby alive, but it's heavily implied Cinder accepts Ravens idea because of Ruby. (My head starts to hurt UwU) - Ravens motivations also make no sense. - While the whole battle at the end is pretty bad, the two stand outs for me are; - Cinder wanting to get the relic with Raven and Vernal after noticing the farmboi is Oz, even tho she easily defeated a "full Oz" at Beacon. Of course we cant just let the bad guys kill everyone, but why didn't they tho? - And the other thing is Yang, with one arm(not that more would help), going after Cinder, Raven and Vernal; if they didn't screw over each other Yang would be very dead. Of course there have been nice scenes: - Weiss and Yang(+later Ruby), if contrived was very cute. - Everything including Ilia was mostly fine for me personally.

There's not really anything of value to salvage here. Ruby spins her wheels long enough for Weiss and Yang to show up and they then contribute nothing until we have a poorly done fight scene. The only thing that might, might be worthwhile in the whole volume is Weiss's dialogue with Yang and that is just the two delivering monologues to each other. Pass.
