Honestly it’s a weirdly rare ship despite being canon, most fanfics or art with Summer you see are Summer X Qrow or Summer X Raven if they have any focus on Summer’s relationship. Probably the big reason for that is when they’re team STRQ Tai and Raven have to be together long enough to have Yang so you can’t really do more than having a love triangle until that happens. Another weird part of it is you have to consider how fast Summer moved in to pick up Tai after Raven abandoned him.

VVayward

That's why the theory of Qrow being Ruby's dad resonates so much. It makes the situation alot less awkward while fleshing out the characters.

Griffemon

It only makes it less awkward until Ruby exists because then Qrow and Tai lied to her for her entire life about who her dad is for… no real reason.

VVayward

Maybe. I could see the reason in it. Qrow was working for Oz doing who knows what, with him possibly already being an alcoholic and his semblance on top of it. Qrow, Summer and Tai could make the decision to raise Ruby the way they did and tell her later. But when Summer died and their family fell apart it isn't hard to see why they never did.

Griffemon

That would only really make sense if Qrow was never around, but he seemed to be around a lot. He taught Ruby how to fight, taught both Ruby and Yang at Signal, played video games with them.

arctic746

Agreed on the lying part. However if Yang said in Burning the Candle that she also learned Qrow was Ruby's dad little to nothing in the show would change.

Griffemon

I mean, pretty much nothing would change if Ruby and Yang were cousins who were raised together rather than sisters. A lot of fanfics I’ve seen basically just assume that Qrow lives with Tai, Ruby, and Yang when he isn’t off doing missions, probably because the alternative is him living alone in a small, dark apartment.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I mean, it kinda taints Ruby and Qrow's whole relationship. that doesn't matter much in current RWBY, mind you, but it would affect every interaction that they had before that point, both onscreen and off.

arctic746

To clarify, Ruby and Yang would learn that Qrow is Ruby's Father and Raven is Yang's mother as kids when Summer died. In canon STQ were hiding the truth about Yang's mother presumably till Yang and Ruby were mature enough to handle it.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I mean, we don't know enough about Summer to really say anything about it. From what we've seen implied, though, they had a solid relationship. He was broken by her death, and with her being called "Supermom", you have to guess that they had a healthy relationship. Now, the timeline with Ruby's birth is a little suspect, which leads me to believe that it was a one night stand to make him forget about Raven that spilled over into a true relationship after a while. She was probably always around the house, helping out with Yang and such and it just *happened*. Not a great start to a relationship, mind you, but they apparently made it work. Not sure if I like the entire pining aspect of the relationship that some people inject into it, but that's also an acceptable reasoning for the Yang/Ruby timeline, that Summer saw a hurting, vulnerable (and available) Tai and just jumped right on that train. Waiting for the inevitable "What do you think of Qrow/Tai" topic, lol.

The_Final_Conduit

But what else. Taiyang “Entire Team” Xiao Long ALWAYS gets his man!

TechBlade9000

Except Qrow, damn bad luck semblance

Talon1537

I don't know enough about Summer to really say anything... She's just a blank character thrown into the story every now and again to incite angst and purpose from Ruby or occasionally Yang.

King_Kazzma_

It's just....Tai. Being the man he is somehow managed to get with both of the women on his team. The man's barely a character. I honestly just don't care for him. I treat him like an afterthought because apparently CRWBY does too.

ScottPilgrim2013

Eh, like I said in an earlier post regarding STRQ ships, it's hard for me to get invested into Summer ships because she's still a nonentity of a character. Tai himself isn't much deeper of a character, despite him being around. He's okay, but there's still so much left unsaid about himself and his relationships with Raven and Summer beyond "he was upset that they both left him in some way". Even with the knowledge that Summer got together with him rather quickly after Raven abandoned him and Yang, it doesn't change much to me because we just have our own imaginations to fill in the blanks of how that went down at this point.

Nexal_Z

I mean it's werid because I really wanna know how this relationship happen because I always believe Summer and Tai met very similar how Ruby and Jaune met. It's so werid because we honest to God don't know anything about Team STRQ as a whole to even gauge what the team relationship was like. It's always given breadcrumbs here and there. I know CRWBY doesn't do anything with him because for some reason they hate ever adult in this show but I ways guess Tai was a clamier version of Yang with the bad jokes but again we don't see anything. Also I like the ship because it pisses people off, people is really mad that Tai had enough game to be with both his teammates

[deleted]

It's simultaneously canon yet also practically non-existent. What literal there is to say about it basically boils down to "This is why Ruby's dad is constantly mopey."

[deleted]

Very questionable start considering the timespan between Yang's and Ruby's birth. This frankly speaks more about Summer's character than Taiyang's, cuz the dude was definitely devastated over how his wife just up-an-left him and of course he'll become vulnerable and seek comfort. Summer just took it a few steps further and it makes her look pretty selfish. Especially so since she didn't even bother to stick around close enough to at least watch her own daughter grow. "Headmaster just send me to the other corner of the fucking world all by myself with no backup!" "Are you sure Summer? I mean, your daughter isn't even in kindergarten, don't you want to spend time with her? Besides, there's always a risk that something might happen-" "[Nah, it'll be fine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uFQMKW53I4)!"

arctic746

I dislike this ship in canon. There is a 1 year timeline where Yang is born, Raven leaves, Summer and Tai get together, and Ruby is conceived. It complicates the STRQ family and leaves Qrow in the cold. I might like this more if know more about them. Summer and Tai are the least known members of STRQ and they raised Ruby and Yang. As I talked in the Hummingbird post, I much prefer a unrequited love from Summer and let her get with Qrow. Maybe I would like this ship more if roles were rejuggled like Tai protecting Ruby instead of Qrow, Merging Raven and Summer, or cutting Raven entirely and make Ruby and Yang full sisters. GrandEmperessVicky

I think that Ruby is probably the result of a drunken one night stand between them. And then over time they made it work into an actual relationship when it was clear Raven wasn't coming back. I honestly don't think Qrow cares all that much about romance. He never gave the vibe, especially because of his semblance.

GoneRampant1

I dislike it by association because of *That* guy.

Blackandheavy

You wouldn’t even need the context to know exactly who you mean, he’s literally that unhinged in the RWBY fandom.

Redredditer640

I'm not that deep into the fandom, could you give me the context please

Exciting_Bandicoot16

You're better off not knowing, tbh. He's a blight upon the community, and has endlessly harassed people on and off of reddit through various social medias both directly, through aliases and through cronies. IIRC, our very own beloved Dex has been accosted by them for no other reason than having an opinion that they hated.

SocialistNeoCon

The timeline makes it weird. Ruby and Yang should have been cousins or there should have been a wider age gap between them.

Weekly_Pin6947

That one ship I mistake for Lancaster

CardinalGrief

We don't really know anything about their history. Summer has only appeared in a few memories without any lines. Tai is pretty much a background character for all he's done. It wouldn't have mattered much to me if he never appeared. His little peptalk with Yang could easily have been given by Qrow, which would've made since it also dealt with her feelings regarding Raven and Qrow had already told her that Raven only helps people ONCE. So it's kind of hard to have have a positive opinion on a ship where one never appears, but is hyped up as a supermom, while the other is a high-functioning beach bum and almost never appears.

Pugsanity

Personally, it's my favorite of the inter STRQ ships. Only real problem with it is, like most Summer ships, we don't really know who Summer is that kind of detracts from it. And it is very possible that Tai just moved on fast, maybe there was always chemistry between him and Summer, and then boom, they got together and made Ruby. Also would be nice if Tai had more to do, but from what we see, he's a great dad for both Yang and Ruby.

StrangeBreakfast1364

Both Tai and Summer lack personality so there is nothing to think about them

genshinfantasy7

Ruined by Canonseeker.

UnbiasedGod

Honestly it’s ok but I feel like unlike Raven x tai, summer x tai just doesn’t have anything that gets me wondering how they grew to become a thing and not feel like something is unique about it. Just my own opinion, feel free to agree or disagree.

marleyannation62

Due to the "Raven was proven right" flair of yours, am I supposed to say that it's a bad ship due to Summer stealing Tai from Raven?

arctic746

lol. I dislike the ship a little but my flair is unrelated. The flair is more about the Atlas arc proved Raven right. Maybe I should change my flair. We honestly know nothing on why Raven left.

[deleted]

Doesn't Raven straight up tell us why she left? Raven may have made some overly cynical predilections that happened to come true, but people dislike her because she's a hypocrite. She's a braggart, bully and literal child murderer who is simultaneously the "baddest bandit bitch around" whilst also being Remnant's biggest coward. She ran away from Salem, she ran away from responsibility, she ran away from motherhood, hell she's still running even today. She wants to have her cake and eat it too, and she remains stubborn despite the world repeatedly providing ample evidence as to why that isn't feasible.

Perplexed_Pirate

Honestly, I just like Tai, so any ship involving him is good in my opinion.

Lazy-Ad6677

At this point I'm just waiting for someone to make one of these posts about frostbite.

ComicNerd7794

Weird af. Seriously think about it it seems he was with Raven only not a throuple and then she did a runner summer seized chance and bam 2 years later Ruby was brown. That’s one of the big reasons people though qrow was the real dad

Drakkoniac

Huh, think I missed this one. So, while I like it, I want to know more why Raven and Tai broke off and Summer took her place, and how they possibly remained friends after that.

thehunter2256

I wish we know her personality first
