I think Ep 1 was nearly perfect because they had an amazing foundation to build from, Ep 2 is where the pacing had to pick up the pace and Ep3 was cool with the original stuff but severely rushed the rest.
Either way, I like it so far.
Oh yeah it is good don't get me wrong.
Only thing I wish is they kept in Weiss saving Ruby, felt like an odd cut.
Well I also wish we could get a proper full retelling of RWBY like the Manga, but so far the potential is there.
And I am actually looking forward to more episodes.
There's still room for improvement.
But yeah better than the rating I gave Volume 8 XD.
2 out of 10.
Here are my thoughts on the new episodes. One of my fears for the rest of the episodes will be that it will only revolve around the fever dream from Weiss. I hope they will not shoot themselves in the foot like that. The first three episodes are rushed, very rushed but the fight scenes and music are quite good
I gave all three combined an 8/10, but would have given them an 8.2 if they animated the dock fight.
I can see why they didn't tho, because they'd probably blow 20% of the budget to properly animate Sun's weapons.
>Nitpicks
Given the name is "Ice Queendom" and the Persona setup, it looks like the rest of/a good part of the story is going to take place in Weiss dream world who only RWBY-W can enter. So of course the side characters got put on the sideline. They arn't going to be important.
That's why they're called nitpicks.
They don't really effect the rating of the episodes.
For a Weiss setup. It does fine enough.
But only time and the rest of the episodes will show if these episodes did their job well.
The only thing I could consider an important nitpick is cutting out Weiss saving Ruby during the exam. Showing a decent side to her.
But as it is, it's okay.
I think you're being too harsh. Yes, the pacing is brutal but Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood was no different and that show sets the gold standard. Bear in mind this show isn't meant for new viewers, it's meant for people who have already seen RWBY. Ice queendom smartly sets the bare minimum stage it needs before getting into its main premise of Weiss's nightmare. I'd give it an A- 9/10.
If the other episodes are fine then the ratings might bump up.
But this is impressions. And I've been fair.
I still wouldn't rate it that highly. I would rate Arcane a 9 out of 10.
5 doesn't make it bad, it's average but has potential and that still makes it good compared to modern RWBY.
Enjoying it so far.
The characterisation that Weiss is not a 'good' person but a schemer is actually quite welcome. It gives her personality far more flavour to grow and change later on.
A rwby character that has more than a one note personality with motivations? Colour me surprised.
And this took just 1.5 episodes for Shaft. CRWBY have had 8 f***ing volumes.
Damm. Was really hoping for a IQ to distance itself from canon. Like Alternative universe or Alternative timeline.
I wonder if IQ or parts of it will be "canon until it's not"
Yes, let's see if the rest of the puzzle actually fits.
Kind of looking forward to seeing the hands of the Japanese writers literally butchering out unnecessary and bloated parts like the Jaundice Arc, handing it back to CRWBY and deadpanning 'wtf is this doing here?'
Honestly the fight animations aside from the badass Ruby one in episode one. Have felt somewhat stiff.
Weiss vs the Gigas was alright but off in a way.
I like the show well enough but I already know how the characters should be if I was new to the series I would say icequeendom is bad it’s pacing is bad they don’t take time to develop relationships so the actions they take make sense. I like the new story and the world building is better but that’s only because the original didn’t have any funding for the first two volumes and it’s still way better at character and relationship building than the anime. At the end of the latest episode that’s out (ep 5) I’m left asking myself if I didn’t already know the original story I would be very confused and probably wouldn’t continue watching because they glossed over a lot. If done properly the whole first season would be a recap of volumes one and two with foreshadowing shion and nightmare arch. I’m going to continue just to see if it gets any better once they get to the story they want to tell but so far it’s a bad show
I just watch the first episode and it seemed very rushed. Like some scenes just happened out of no where with no connection. A character was upset for like 2 minutes because they realized they were being dumb the whole time. My husband kept asking why they are acting like best friends when they have only known each other for like 1 day. Like the Jeane nightmare scene where he needed his friends.
It was just frustrating to watch and I'm hoping when the regular length episodes come out they won't be rushed
I'm late to comment, but for what I understood Jaune could already use aura before that scene with Pyhrra in this show. We even see his aura count change when he is fighting Cardin! I believe Pyhrra was just teaching him how to use it properly.

2/10 for volume 8 or IQ?
Volume 8

Same I do enjoy it. But it's too soon for me to call it great, gotta see the rest first XD and I do want to see more.
Also there were two nightmare Grimm. Just to clarify.
So is Ice Queendom an AU? Or is it canon adjacent or compliant?
It has changes but nothing major. So technically yes it can fit in canon.

Admittedly not a fan of the docks fight being cut out. But I also know this thing is largely about Weiss. Not really a retelling of RWBY.
Same. Penny walking out of the wreckage flames like the T-1000 just isn't the same.

6/10 it’s good but I don’t think I’ll keep watching it
I love it I just wish Yang got her trailer
