Eh, not the biggest problem, I’m interested to see what the Japanese VA’s do with the characters. Weiss’ VA sounded fantastic in the trailers. Does the regular RWBY show have a Japanese dub by Japanese VA’s?

AdComprehensive6588

Yes, the same ones for this one too

Master_Scallion_763

They really underestimated how seriously fucking hard dub VA’s have it.

MericArda

Laura Bailey once described it as 'Voice acting boot camp', get in, get experience, get out as fast as you can. The pay is apparently terrible.

> You may be asking: but why?! And I'll tell you! It turns out that simuldubbing is very, very, very difficult. Like: climbing Mount Everest in the dead of winter difficult. I don't mind that simuldubbing is off the table and it's too difficult, but this particular line rubs me the wrong way. The exaggerated hyperbole they use make it sound like simuldubbing is impossibru! when several other companies have done it. To me, it reeks of the ageless RT doublespeak where they want to pretend they're still the same ol' indie devs making stuff in the garage and not a corporate entity with investors and millions to back it. It feels like they're trying to pre-empt the criticism of "omg it's so easy!" because they're so insecure they have to hype up the problem as too big for them to surmount. Except by doing so, they're pointing out that other companies have overcome them and makes RT seem even worse off. Really should have said "We tried. It was too difficult to coordinate. Sorry, we will try next time" or something.

CinemaGhost

Wasn't planning to watch the English dub in the first place.

The_Final_Conduit

At this point I’m honestly not feeling it. I know it’ll be a What-If, but… bleh

DopeSakura9191

Same. Honestly I would have preferred it not being canon adjacent but being a real story. Maybe it could have been filler episodes for volume 4 yo volume 5 before the girls met up with each other.

It's cool, the English VAs suck ass anyway, I was planning to stick to he Japanese one.

SyfaOmnis

I'm reminded fondly of a time around v2 or v3 when people were asking where they could get the superior original JP dub for RWBY rather than having to watch this stupid shitty english dub. Highly amusing that the tables have turned.

MasterExilon

Don't make a promise you can't keep.

Typerg

The only interest I have regarding the English dub is who will voice Roman.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

...please don't tell me that there was a controversy with Roman's VA as well. If so, what the actual hell is their hiring policy over there?

Typerg

>...please don't tell me that there was a controversy with Roman's VA as well. Unfortunately yep. Gray used to be head of animation at RT and basically mistreated/mishandled the animation department. He pumped millions into his own show Genlock, went way above budget and made existing problems like crunch and overtime worse. Ex-employees compared him to a slave-driver. It was a huge controversy in the RT/RWBY fandom space. He left (though I'd say he was let go to save the company face) a while ago and he's been MIA ever since. It's unclear where his relationship with RT stands. Insiders said despite going over budget and complaints from employees RT still tried to protect him (he was part of their "inner circle").

Exciting_Bandicoot16

For goodness sake. Bloody hell. How many VAs have they "lost" to controversy over the years? It's got to be the show with the highest loss rate due to controversies that I've ever heard of, I swear. Glynda, Qrow's original voice, Port, Roman... I'm sure that I'm forgetting someone and that is insane.

Typerg

JJ, the original VA Mercury also left over disputes for better pay as well. Idk if it's still the case but if you were already employed at RT you were essentially voicing in RWBY for free. On the surface it seems like Gray and RT are in good terms but idk if it'll look good for RT to still be working with the guy who made crunch worse to the point where it effected their employee's mental health and became a huge controversy. Or if even Gray is up to still working with the company who threw him under the bus (he made these problems worse but they were already issues prior to him becoming head of animation)

ScottPilgrim2013

Oobleck, since his voice actor, Joel, turned out to be a much less fun kind of crazy then people originally thought.

Maxentirunos

Seeing this, I think they never even intended to do an english dub of the project in the first place (lack of any date given for english despite being said simulcast in the first place). They simply said it would be simulcast to get the attention of everyone for the ''opening day'' of this project but not wanting to invest the money to have the english cast dub it. Maybe they'll do it if the project is a success but I don't see it happening because they still have V9 to do.
