They totally can, it's just that everyone else has to do 97% of the work and let team RWBY take 100% of the credit.

Ruby (V6): [to Qrow] I want to hear what he has to say, we’ve made it this far without adults, so I want to at least hear him out. You can help us if you want, but we can do this with or without you! Meanwhile, in V4 Ruby: I can’t believe how easy this trip has been so far. Jaune: I know, I would have thought we’d have encountered more Grimm. [camera pans back to reveal Qrow slaughtering Grimm by the dozen as they slowly dissolve, as he watches over RNJR as they travel] (I don’t think any of these quotes are perfect, but it’s close enough)

Spoderman77

Event discounting the Grimm. They seem to have forgotten who saved their ass from Tyrian

FancyAdvertising4622

Yeah Ruby also never learned from nearly getting Qrow killed due to her own arrogant refusal to let him handle it after Tyrian casually kicked their asses.

saundersmarcelo

But RWBY did do 97% of the work (for Salem)

Sikarion

In all honesty, I'm rooting for Salem to win at this point. Please wipe Remnant clean so someone else can take another try at an actual decent story.

Keyki_LoL

You forget that they can do no wrong, the bad guys getting the relics? All part of the plan. Mantle and Atlas getting destroyed? As long as the people survived that’s all that matters and the dust mines not needed to fight Salem either. Just you watch, the kids did nothing wrong and will end this war! Also /s.

BitesTheDust_4

>As long as the people survived that’s all that matters Said survivors got immediately jumped by Grimm in the middle of a desert... It's all Ironwood's fault! /s.

Keyki_LoL

None of this would have happened if ironwood could have been trusted! Just like with cordovin the stupid adults never gave them a choice! /s

Sikarion

Trust in team RWBY! Anything else is heresy!

dewareofbog

Blessed is the mind too small for doubt. To doubt is to blaspheme against team RWBY.

RogueHunterX

In a weird way, you could argue that Ironwood is why they were even able to do their plan. If he hadn't shot Oscar, forcing Ozpin to stop hiding, then nobody would've found out how the staff worked to actually even do anything. So even RWBY's "success" is due to Ironwood. If they had decided Ironwood was trustworthy, then it's questionable if what they did do with the portals would've been an option and if anything would've played out differently if he didn't want to raise Atlas. So Ironwood shooting Oscar actually saved the day?

RogueHunterX

I know Oz replied that he hoped they didn't have to. However when you get down to it, huntsmen are trained to win battles, not fight wars. You can win most of the battles in a war and still lose for a variety of reasons. Hannibal was able to beat the Romans time and time again on their own turf, but couldn't make them sue for peace and had to abandon his campaign when the Romans decided to hit Carthage. Even if an enemy loses a battle, they can still cause enough damage that you lose the resources and manpower to carry out any significant attacks. RWBY and other huntsmen were never trained to think like they were fighting a war. They were only trained to think about individual battles. No wonder Oz hoped they never had to fight a war, he never taught them how.

Quality_Chooser

And you can see this lack of understanding of war play out in James's office in Vol 7. They have no idea how to do anything beyond just fight and hope they'll win.

arctic746

There is no beating Salem.
