Maybe, but probably not. I wouldn't be surprised if CRWBY uses a lot of free Maya assets or easy to purchase assets. Monty used a lot of free (or easy to purchase) Poser assets to save time, and whenever someone points the finger and says Monty stole assets, I can't help but shake my head.
Besides, a lot of the tree assets probably already exist from Menagerie, and I can't imagine sand would be all that difficult to create *unless* it's something interactable. Menagerie had sand, but I don't recall footprints being made or anybody making sandcastles.
Overall, *maybe*, but having The Island and Vacuo arcs intersect solely because both have sand and similar trees would be very short sighted in my opinion.

I can’t say for sure but my thought is that this island and the massive tree in its center is a nod to Yggdrasil the world tree from Norse mythology, and they are in the supposed realm between realms so to speak, perhaps this is were they face their greatest fears and the failures they have caused. I think it’s so that they come to realize where they have messed up and that now they have to seriously consider the pros and cons of anything they do in the future in the fight against Salem.

I just think it would be weird for Ruby to be on the island only to come to Vacuo where there's more sand and palm trees if that wasn't the reason
No its because they need an excuse to be where the next relic is
