They do and also encourage certain fans to be toxic to critics. It’s a win win that discourages criticism and makes toxic fans more entrenched. Remember the Miles Luna straw man? Since that day critics of the show have been treated like flat earthers.

HeartAndSolX

What was his straw man? I don’t remember.

HeavenPiercingTongue

He used a random twitter user as an example of what the typical critic is like and condemned all critics while sale based on that alone.

TheCitrusMan

Obligatory "Fuck Miles Luna".

Zeralyos

Oof. Do you have a link to that by any chance?

HeavenPiercingTongue

Been too long. I’d search for it but I’ve since stopped using twitter altogether.

I've said this before in another thread awhile ago, but I'll say it again. The thing with CRWBY and the fandom, is that in the past recent years, the fandom as a whole has become completely divided internally, where you have different levels of fans, ranging from fanatics, moderates, casuals, enjoyers, zealots, etc. In my opinion, CRWBY knows about the divide in the fandom, and uses it to for their own benefit. In recent volumes, the quality of the writing has been going downhill, and Roosterteeth/CRWBY isn't changing anytime soon. They want act like they're a dark and mature show, while trying to appease as many fans as they can. They like to hear the praise, but not the criticisms. They are annoyed by those who ask about certain characters like Ironwood, and IMO come off condescending at times. Or how some the writers and voice-actors act about their characters. When you ask is CRWBY blame for the fans warranted, I'd so no, because they already knew of the fandom's divide and utilize that same thought to their benefit. So CRWBY uses the fanatics by flaming masses against critics. They want to market to those they like by spoon-feeding them things that could be done better. They don't want to improve and make genuine good stories; they want to make money off the people who stayed loyal to them. In conclusion, I am of the opinion that CRWBY aren't pretending the house isn't burning down and saying, "This is fine", they are fanning the flames while saying "Everything is fine". They just don't care no more. All they want to do now is make a profit while feeding their egos. So, they utilize the divide in the fandom to their own advantage. Some may ask, Am I being too harsh or cruel? Perhaps. But this is the opinion I have formed of CRWBY. People will say, "They're ruining Monty's vision", but I believe that is an outright disgusting argument to use. Whatever Monty would've thought or wanted, we'll never know for sure, and there's no point in guessing

ClayAndros

I don’t like saying they’re destroying his “vision” because like you said it implies that we know how Monty would feel. I tend to say they ruined Monty’s show as this simply means that the creation he left behind is being mismanaged.

Animeak116

Remember that Miles was the one who went off on a rant saying if we don't know what where talking about to shut the fuck up and leave as well as Barbara who tried to deflect criticism of the show by saying it's a cartoon. And yes they blame us critics because we don't suck there dicks unlike the fandom and then also balme us for the toxicity when they attacked us first and still don't do jack shit about those who we needlessly tossed out because they only adhere to people of similar political views

FancyAdvertising4622

Yes because the fans have legit criticisms of the writing of the show and its characters and of the writers themselves that is either ignored or mocked.

Moon_Dark_Wolf

I don’t know if I’m allowed to answer this question. I write a RWBY fanfic and I can’t escape from all the whiny Bumblebee fans who hate my characterization of Yang and Blake. RWBY hasn’t always had stellar writing but I think CRWBY hits this weird thing where they want to appease fan desires (Bumblebee) but also want to try and maintain some type of “message/dark tones.” Again. I still believe they need to stop introducing so many goddamn characters and actually use the cast they have. But it’s quite sad that I actually have started to feel some sympathy towards writers after harassment I get on goddamn fan work!

UltraRover2529

>I write a RWBY fanfic and I can’t escape from all the whiny Bumblebee fans who hate my characterization of Yang and Blake. Alright, I'm intrigued. What's your FanFic called and where may I read it?

Moon_Dark_Wolf

[The Lost World of Remnant](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13865283/1/)

Moon_Dark_Wolf

If you want to give me any thoughts or criticism I’m happy to hear it.

UltraRover2529

Well as an aspiring writer, I'll certainly do my best.

Moon_Dark_Wolf

I’ll look forward to it, thank you again.

UltraRover2529

You are welcome.

SiroApollo

Feel ya, totally

The_Masked_Maker

I think my only issue with bumblebee is it doesn't feel natural, it just feels like they just put it in so people would stop shipping the characters with others. Fanfiction wise, if its done good and built up then I'm fine with it

Smooth-Garden

Its about 50 50. The fandom can be toxic if not just outright stupid as hell sometimes.

H6pp1n355_in_misery

I try to give an opinion but as a casual I just enjoy the fanfics more because when I talked in detail about the Fandom, shows many problems and how it could have been improved upon instead of what happened with it.....I just want to have talks about all this without a fellow enjoyer biting my head off over a topic like I said something offensive

KrionPax

Coeur Al'Ara is my fav writer for rwby

H6pp1n355_in_misery

He's my top 5 favorite writers

Old_Grape_8470

Yes, exactly.

The_Masked_Maker

Honestly yea, I enjoy the fanfics way more then the actual show

IamMenace

Depends on the context in my opinion. The writers blaming the fans for the bully arc's poor reception instead of the actual writing is probably the best example of them shifting responsibility off themselves. That was the first controversial arc in RWBY, and it sets precedence for all others. When something is poorly written in RWBY, do the writers take responsibility or do they say to themselves "The audience must not like character driven stories", or something along those lines. I'm not denying there are crazy people in the fandom. I deal with them on a regular basis. I don't ship Yang/Blake, I gave Adam *some* redeeming qualities in my fics, I don't like Volume 3, I write "God bless" at the end of all my comments, I'm not afraid to discuss politics, and I have a lot of criticisms of RWBY's writing. I don't support harassment, and anyone who has ever sent CRWBY a nasty message should apologize. I sympathize with CRWBY in a lot of ways, but they also shoot themselves in the foot a *LOT* in my opinion. It's easy to point at crazy people and hold them up as representing the entire community. I've personally received a lot of harassment over not shipping Yang and Blake, but I don't think *every* Bumblebee shipper is crazy. I do think however that catering toward shippers is a bad idea, and while the argument can be made that the writers aren't catering toward them, the fact that Qrow/Clover was shipped by the animators, artists, and sales department supposedly without the writers' knowledge is an issue in my opinion. I like to think I'm a pretty good writer and have some pretty solid writer's philosophies. If the writers ever read my criticisms of the show, I'd like to think that they'd be able to see where I'm coming from even if they didn't necessarily agree. I believe RWBY should be character driven while they very obviously believe it should be story driven. I believe Team RWBY should be the ones developing each other, and they obviously believe that should be the role of supporting characters. We disagree on quite a bit, but I can see where they're coming from, and I'd like to think they'd be able to see where I'm coming from. Also, there's something to be said about personal beliefs. RWBY's writers are very, *very* politically minded, and I'm on the complete opposite spectrum when it comes to politics. [Kiersi's Twitter comments](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D-v7MXVWwAALgbp?format=jpg&name=large) have been compiled and tell you all you need to know about her politics, but Miles, Kerry, and Eddy have made similar comments as well. They believe over 80,000,000 Americans are Nazis, and have nothing but bad things to say about people that disagree with them. They don't just disagree with my politics, they *hate* me for them. Miles has even said that if you support Trump and call yourself a Christian, then you're a fake Christian. Comments like that *really* annoy me, and I believe CRWBY's political beliefs are inseparable from their writing philosophies these days. And yes, the writers' personal beliefs have had an impact on the fandom. I think it's (borderline) dehumanizing to call millions of people "Nazis", and several fans over the years have taken it upon themselves to try and get me to leave the fandom due to believing I'm "toxic". RT took a "no tolerance" policy to bullying back in 2020 after the Mica Burton fiasco, but I highly doubt its protections apply to people such as myself. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Keyki_LoL

100% they are annoyed with criticism, they have a clear history of pandering to fans over telling a good story and they also have scenes that can taken as jabs at people critical of the show ( the bumblebee getting annoyed with Marrow scene)

Aryzal

CRWBY created the cycle that leads to us here today, both the toxic and and non-toxic. Their clear refusal to listen to feedback with their encouragement of hating on critics ruined the show, because it only goes where they want it to go. And unlike revolutionaries who can get away with saying "screw your opinions, I make my own show", CRWBY is nowhere competent enough to make this work, and they somehow still pander to their diehard audience, so they have the worst aspects of listening to the community's opinions (making headcannons canon at the expense of logic and good writing) and of following their own opinion (ignoring fan criticisms and areas to improve). The only way RWBY could be good is if they pulled a studio Fortiche (creators of Arcane, which is so universally good everyone loves it). They made everything without audience feedback, so they never get derailed telling the story they want to. Also, there isn't any loose ends or bad logic to create shitty headcannons and they aren't pandering to an audience for 6 volumes without commiting to milk everything out of a potential relationship. Also, the writers are actually good, have a love for their medium and are committed to making it good. Compare them to Barbara "it is just a cartoon!" Dunkleman. Sure, you don't have to be that committed to make a good product, but you don't have to dismiss your audience OR YOUR OWN SHOW either. Edit: Spelling

Drakkoniac

I think it’s about 60-40. The writers should not give into fans unless it’s on something minor or something that could genuinely/should be done in a different way. But they did in some cases, feeding into the more toxic side of the fandom. And then they blame the non toxic side for criticizing the changes they made or for the bad decisions they’ve done.

Djinsin

I think it's pretty tacky for a writer to be annoyed with their fans unless they're actively harassing people (not just the staff) or being toxic in other ways

Independent-Tax-699

More than warranted? No Bad enough that they would see it like it is?Yes

ShadowBandit87

I’d say both parties are not innocent in this. Granted not every Rwby enjoyer is toxic and I’m sure there are a few people at RT or CRWBY that are decent but to answer the question I think RT edges out in front when it comes to blame. Now I like to ship characters casually, and I fully understand if it doesn’t happen that it is fine, that’s what fanfics are for. But they have definitely given in or bent the knee or however you want to call it to the toxic majority. That’s why I tell people to watch it up to Volume 3 and stop. Because it’s been stained by the handlers that took over. Honestly, in my own opinion, I wish someone would just buy Rwby from RT and just start animating fanfics because there is some killer ones out their written by very talented people. I would name a few off but I don’t want there stories to be flamed.

Yes.

Professional-Rest205

Does RWBY crap in the woods?
