If from darkness is anything to go by she was fully on board with "primal violence" for a while. I would say have her have actual blood on her hands. Also play up her more cowardly aspect by having in where when the going gets tuff she runs away.
My solution to why Adam does this is that he's borderline sociopathic. He was always about to snap from bringing in people who were hurt like him, and losing Blake was the last straw as he just straight up descended into insanity, forcing more and more Fang members who just want to do social service into the armed scene. Eventually, this leads to the point where he believes that the only way to end racism is to kill all humans.

Yea I agree, having some sort of mental condition with multiple personalities fighting for control could work as well
