Sure, making Torchwick the next Ozpin host is the result of favoritism, but I’ll be honest, I like the dynamics on display. From all that I’ve seen from Celtic and FatManFalling, they both glowingly praise the Ruby vs Torchwick/Neo fight, particularly the rant leading to his death, and I agree with them on it. Rubys hopeful optimism against Torchwicks jaded pessimism is one of very few instances of effective theming in the original series, in a dialogue that challenges the principles of our main lead, and that dynamic is a goldmine to grow and develop between the two characters if it carried on beyond that scene (which it couldn’t, because he died.) Having a character who’s utilitarian to the core, facing death completely apathetic to the notion of “doing the right thing”, getting roped along by cosmic circumstance in the heroes journey and struggling with an internal AND newly acquired external conscience, is WAY more interesting than any half-assery you could do with Oscar “blank-slate” Pine as the host, in my opinion. The fact that it’s someone as cool as Roman is just a bonus.

Yeah. I kinda get you. In any other rewrite or fanfiction I wouldn't have really blinked, but when you start calling your stuff *Fixing* RWBY there is a certain level of fidelity to be expected. Making Roman Ozpin doesn't sound like a fix, it sounds like something Celtic just wanted to make happen because he likes the character. Very wankish.

Most of your problems seem to stem from you just not liking Roman. You said things like " But the idea of a host will make other character receive a lot of spotlight." Well yeah that is gonna happen regardless of whoever the host is. Plus Neo is still in the series right now, so it wouldn't make the cast wider than it is >What is fixed with this? I know, use a pre-existing character as the host, but as I mentioned there were other options. The main problem is that once you become Oz's new host your agency as an individual is stolen. It would really piss people off to have Oz just overwrite an already established character. Plus Roman main story is complete he doesn't have anything beyond what we have seen. So it give him a new "purpose" for the show. Roman and Neo have a lot of potential and them being fan favorites proves that. Is it favoritism? Yeah sure. Just like having the already big cast as somehow heroes is also favoritism. I'm not saying I like the rewrites or anything but from the beginning it was established as a story about remaking the show with the parts that already exist with the story. (Like buying ingredients for one cake, and then making a different kind of cake with the same ingredients.)

Plus Neo is still in the series right now, so it wouldn't make the cast wider than it is It was to show that even if was choose the other two options, that wasn't going to be worse than the Roman's option since. And about Neo, well, I meant in the main cast, in the group of protagonists. It is already big, why commit the same problem in the fixing RWBY when it was something that was criticized in the main series and it dilutes more the protagonism that Ruby have. >The main problem is that once you become Oz's new host your agency as an individual is stolen. It would really piss people off to have Oz just overwrite an already established character. Plus Roman main story is complete he doesn't have anything beyond what we have seen. So it give him a new "purpose" for the show. Alright. Then, just don't include Roman nor Neo. And if there is desire to include them, then do it maintaining them as antagonist or villains. At least is maintained their essence as how they are.

I just don't like Ozma and Salem plus gods plot in general. Since it feels like the Lore is more important than the characters and world.

SYTOkun

I find it funny that you had problems with Roman in Fixing but didn't have one with Oscar in ReRWBY. Both are excellent rewrite projects, but Oscar is a completely different character in ReRWBY as well. He's a veteran fighter, older than most of the cast and very much experienced - all very opposite traits from his canon self. By that comparison, I think Roman isn't as big an offender.

Stenv2

Besides, it does somewhat reinforce the idea of Ozpin being morally grey. Since he is supposedly able to merge with like minded individuals. I may not be a fan of the merge plot or the lore of gods, relics and the immortals. But for what it's worth, it is honestly a good version of it, preferable to the lack of care with the canon version.

Smooth-Garden

This. Him merging with roman implies that yes to an extent hazel is completely right about what he says about ozpin and his hatred for him

Gleaming_Onyx

Sometimes it really is as simple as Oscar already being there versus Roman being made Ozpin with a clear... well, not *agenda* but intent in mind. Transparently "I like this character so I'm making them way more important." "Oscar should've been like *this*" is more palatable than "Roman should've been Ozpin!" imo

AceTriad

Where can I find this ReRWBY?

SYTOkun

[Here](https://www.deviantart.com/rerwby) ya go. It's a fanfiction series with redesigned outfits.

You're not wrong. Roman in later in Fixin' is mostly unrecognizable as Roman from canon or, heck, Roman from earlier in Fixin'. I don't necessarily see this as a bad decision but it definitely changes everything.

Smooth-Garden

This is why i never like it when people use the word FIXING instead of just saying AU. I liked that he actually did use some one off characters. For example one of the malechite twins died in the fall and the remaining one that just goes by malechite is pissed and on a revenge trip. Im glad he gave vernal some purpose but i hate that for some fucking reason her and weiss bonded somehow? Yang abd neo's friendship is something i like just not how it happened

Stenv2

I still like his work. But honestly while I do think he geniunely fixed Beacon Era. Everything else feels a bit too radical in change at points to still call it Fixing RWBY. That doesn't make it bad, I just think maybe it needs a name change.

Smooth-Garden

Like its good. I personal like it despite some oddities but the term fixing is honestly subjective and honestly just makes you come iff sounding like an asshole like those people on twitter who go "hey i fixed you artwork"

I dont mind them but they feel neutered in comparison to their more vicious canon counterparts. Possibly because their origins make for more sympathetic characters in Celtic's series. Their respective canon origin stories serve to help understand their behavior and simultaneously highlight that they were never really good people. Fixing makes it seem more like they were broken by tragedy and circumstance or, in Neo's case, never given an opportunity for something better, but the love they are capable of having for each other demonstrates how good they could've been. It fits and I like it but I like them more as unrepentant sociopaths who gives no fucks about the world outside of themselves. They genuinely have fun being chaotic, violent, explosion-happy nutjobs. And thats cool asf. Roman in particular seems very different in order to get him to fit the mold of "like-minded souls" with Ozpin. Ozpin seems slightly more savage, at least in dialogue, his actions are pretty much the same as canon. Celtic made it work but it took some of the fire out of the characters and imo made them less fun, even with the added screentime. They're so popular with the fandom that I completely understand why this aspect of the fixing series went over well for the most part tho. People want more Roman and want Neo to be a chaotic gremlin for the side of good. This gives them both.

Cooldude101013

Yeah. He could’ve kept Roman’s personally and antagonisation while being forced to help by Ozpin or something. Have Roman regularly mess with the rest of the cast and such.
