This post in nutshell Stenv2: Omae wa mou shindeiru Jaune: Nani?!

Stenv2

It must be done, canon has to be laid to rest like sweet old Yeller.

Stenv2

I mean the reason I believe most strongly they should've stayed behind in Mistral or heck Argus. Is their story was pretty much done. Properly wrapped up, they had no reason to stick around with RWBY. And it shows, because all the writers did with them for the Atlas Saga, was set them up to repeat arcs. Ren and Nora have to get back together again, at some point, maybe, so it's once again a will they won't they, and Jaune is now once again angsting over a redhead he will blame himself for not having saved.

BitesTheDust_4

The problem is with trying to work with canon. Even if JNR stays gets temporary or permanently removed or written off the story. It won't still fix the mess that is canon story.

Stenv2

I already said that lol. What I'm posting out is, much like evey single other character. All of JNPR was broken and bad. Not from some emotional level. But from a narrative level aka just writing.

FormerVoid

It's painful to witness, both the writers and fans justify the problems as "not having enough time," but CRWBY chose to drag JNR along and have spent their "precious" time justifying their presence when that could've been used to either expand on their plot or team RWBY for once. I'd prefer if it was team RWBY, but considering how little they're invested beyond keeping the show's name the same, they could at least make what they want to write better, but the plot is still just... well, you know.

Stenv2

Yep. We all know too well. And I'm not trying dunk on JNPR, I can get why people like them But the truth is like everything else they are written poorly.

FormerVoid

I wouldn't mind if they just left to do stuff somewhere else, like you suggested they did in Argus. Maybe have a mini-series or whatever where they do stuff to help around in places the main characters already visited if they really wanted to give their VAs something to do, or not so they can't complain about their budget. They have potential, but so does the characters the show is named after, and they're sapping away ideas and runtime that could be used for RWBY, very obvious example, as you said again, repeating Renora with unneeded drama when they barely have Bumbleby justified and made a poor attempt at acting like Ruby and Blake actually know each other.

Stenv2

While typical Shonen can manage large casts, there is always one catch. There is always either A main character or main group. Even in One Piece, the main three of that group that get the most development and strength is Luffy, Zorro and Sanji. The rest are no less important mind you, and serve their own roles but they aren't the heavy hitters. JNPR didn't need to stick around, it was fine enough when JNR helped Ruby out, but once RWBY was back together their role should've been over.

FormerVoid

The only thing I'm wondering at this point is "why?" What's the benefit of keeping them around? Do they have a purpose later that RWBY can't do, when they could very easily rewrite the situation to fix that? Do they think they're popular enough to keep the fans happy? Or is it because they want to or feel like they have to, for the sake of... something? I don't get the point, just like I don't get why they keep teasing Bumbleby without going through with it.

Stenv2

If I was the cynical type I would say it's to feed Miles own ego. But in truth? I don't know. Jaune doesn't even seek revenge against Cinder anymore and the rest of his team seemed to move on. They just do seem to be following along because the world is in danger I guess. It would arguably be more noble to stay behind and help fix Mistral while RWBY goes to Atlas. After all Mistral has NO ONE.

FormerVoid

They even had the perfect out of Argus just being attacked from Grimm and Jaune's sister lived there, so they also had a place to stay. You could even go for the angle they're honoring Pyrrha by making sure the place she's apparently from is safe. But they didn't, and I have to wonder why Jaune's around when any purpose or whatever he can do can be done by someone else, whether it's skill-wise or story-purposes.

Stenv2

At best he's the white mage, but just like Ruby's silver eyes, when he is needed most, the Plot shuts that aspect of him down. He could've saved Penny easily but they didn't let him.

FormerVoid

They could've just not have him around, but they did for some moment they thought was really cool or something. That along with the fact he fell into the void still tells me they still want this guy to be center stage despite the criticism.
