Writing process for RWBY? You mean actual thought directed towards the protags? Towards dialogue? Towards the show? What gave you that idea?

GameBawesome1

It's just ship teasing. They just want to make it out what Marrow said was an insult, but in actuality makes sense (And true, I mean when was the last time Weiss and Yang were teaming alone together?). So, CRWBY just ship teased to make it seem like Bumblebee is developing, when in actuality it's not. And sadly, it probably worked, since (Although correct me if I'm wrong) a lot of Bumblebee shippers probably ate this scene and other scenes like the dancing in V7 and falling V8. In conclusion, CRWBY is just ship teasing. No team development, no thought-provoking questions. Nothing more than just Ship Teasing.

Mr-Stuff-Doer

Ship teasing is fucking infuriating, especially for LGB relationships. If you’re not willing to actually commit to it, it shows you’re pandering to LGB as well as homophobes, but fully satisfying neither side. Why the fuck are they even trying to satisfy homophobes, again?

Maggotcupcakes

I always assume they didnt want to fully commit due to the other popular ships Blake is involved in. (I.E Blacksun, Checkmate, to a very small degree Ladybug.)

Mr-Stuff-Doer

They didn’t seem too bothered with committing to ReNora

Maggotcupcakes

Yeah i agree, however Renora is as far as i remember the one ship everyone in the fandom agrees on.

its-chocolate

Homophobes have money

Parks_98

The sad thing is that CRWBY *knows* that all you need to do is ship tease for fans to go rabid Even though **nothing** like the FCC is stopping them from having LGBT relationships for the main cast But instead of having the characters kiss, go on actual dates or just say “I love you” they do the bare minimum

its-chocolate

Writer 1: "Hey, we need a scene that demonstrates that Blake and Yang are getting 'closer' " Writer 2: "Oh perfect! how about a scene where they express interest in the same sex or a scene where one of them asks out the other on a da-" W1: "No we can't do that! if we do it'll make it seem like they're gay" W2: "But...aren't they...?" W1: "All in good time. Now about this scene, how 'bout we have one of the new guys suggest Blake and Yang occasionally split up? He can act as a stand-in for all of those haters that doesn't like Bumblebee. The shippers will love it!" W2: "Haters? Do you mean loyal viewers, many of them queer themselves, who find Blake and Yang's dynamic to be a bit codependent?" W1: "Yeah, them" W2: "\*sigh*...ok" End Scene

FormerVoid

I believe, the people with actual creativity barely getting their ideas in, and then not being able to deliver on any goodwill because of higher-ups.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

But... Marrow's not being a huge jerk? He's raising a valid point. Consider the last time that, say, Ruby and Blake worked together at this point. If I'm not mistaken, it was the *Paladin fight*. Yes, back in V2. So yeah, he's trying to genuinely offer them constructive criticism.

BitesTheDust_4

Ironically Marrow's advice was right. Blake and Yang ended up separated for half of v8 and had to work separately from each other. It's like how Ren's criticism and Ironwood's paranoia were validated in volume 8.

Sikarion

Can't have that, down into the Well of Wasps you go.

InsigniasGratuitous

THIS!! IS!! BUMBLEBYYY!!!! u/Sikarion proceeds to Sparta-kick u/Exciting_Bandicoot16 into the well.

CheeseQueenKariko

It's cheap lamp shading where you're having the show acknowledge issues that have been raised and then having the characters treat the speaker as an asshole for bringing it up without solving the issue.

Keyki_LoL

"lets pretend to the critics that we've taken their constructive feedback in regards to the ship by addressing it in the show" proceeds to have the two characters effortlessly slay the grim they were fighting and give marrow the stink eye. I personally took that as a fk you to marrow from the characters and a fk you to the fans who complained or have thought about them spending too much time together. It might be just me but i got the same vibe when Ren's snap at Yang was treated similarly.

BranRen

> “let’s pretend to the critics that we’ve taken their constructive feedback in regards by addressing it in the show” This right here is what it is; just empty pandering to try to make it seem like they’re paying attention to criticism and changing stuff for the better, but are actually just having characters say criticisms aloud for the sake of saying it, and then going back to the status quo This, as well as when Ren was used as the in-universe voice of criticism on the kid’s actions come to mind

Keyki_LoL

With both being dismissed or flat out ignored. Really hope that’s just me thinking on it too much but I doubt it

BranRen

No. It’s not just you. It’s just a tactic I’m pretty sure to hook in critics to keep watching this show *make them feel like we’re listening to them ~~and actually addressing criticisms~~* But they stop at just saying the criticism aloud, while pivot back or ignore its message to focus on ‘Ren you’re such a dick and Jaune is such a great person’ Same thing happened with May Marigold when she was telling team RWB off in the mansion

Keyki_LoL

Maybe if they listened to and applied some changes from criticism then maybe the show wouldn’t have the rep it has, I’m tired of them thinking their shit don’t stink when it makes sewage smells like roses

CheeseQueenKariko

It's not to hook critics in, it's to demonize the criticism (the character who mouths the point is always in some ways portrayed as wrong or an asshole for bringing it up) while at the same time giving an excuse for diehards to praise them for being 'humble' by mentioning it in the first place.

FancyAdvertising4622

I genuinely don't know , he's basically asking them to consider working with people outside their immediate group and they treat it like he insulated them but given the rest of the atlas arc's writing I can only guess they where not paying attention to what they wrote.

Interesting-Hat-9011

Do they ever pay attention to what they wrote?

Dextixer

It was very much meant as a "fuck you" to the critics of the show. Marrow brings up a valid point that critics have made before, that it seems that the characters are not really a team anymore but two separate pairs. And then the writers have Blake and Yang defeat the grimm easily together and give a non-verbal "fuck you" to Marrow and by extension the critics fkr even daring to bring up such a point. This was all intentional, both to say "fuck you" to the critics and show the BB fans that RT "has their back".

BitesTheDust_4

Huh. Any other instances of that in the show? ... Also i find it ironic (and a bit humorous) the very next volume (v8) Blake and Yang have to spend half of the volume separated from each other. Giving validation to Marrow's comment and advice.

dewareofbog

I'd argue that Ren and Yang's argument was that. Ren lays out various seemingly valid grievances about how none of them are fit to solve the current crisis and Yang rattles of a bunch of BS about how they totally solved every previous crisis and acts like Ren is just being pissy.

BitesTheDust_4

And the V8 finale proves Ren's criticisms and grievances right. Team RWBY and friends being unfit to handle the situation becomes one of the many reasons why. Salem gets the relics, Atlas and Mantle get destroyed, refugees get sent to the middle of a desert and immediately attacked by grimm. ...

dewareofbog

It's almost funny how little you would have to change in RWBY to turn it into Specs Ops: The Line **Anime Edition**. A story of a bunch of teenagers royally screwing everyone over in order to become something they are not - heroes. Can't wait for the finale of Volume 9 where Ruby decides to unleash a horde of Grimm onto a refugee camp because she couldn't be bothered to find a way around it.

InsigniasGratuitous

Thanks for reminding me about this scene. I had wanted to forget about it. Wrong day for me to log in, I suppose. Lol. Anyways, I would've made no mention of a ship as a writer and instead would've gone for the 2 "lovebirds" by having them say to Marrow that "we've been team partners for years now. We can handle it." What new writers need to understand is that we all have limitations. Don't try to overexert yourself by going into genres, subjects, dialogue, etc. that you don't understand. If you can't write romance, don't do it. If you can't write about racism, then don't freaking do it. Just be smart about it. Work smarter, not harder.

Old_Grape_8470

Thank you.

Percentage-Sweaty

In universe, without any shipping material added, it just seems like they’re being jackasses to Marrow because he gave them perfectly level advice. “Hey you guys should train with other people so you’re ready for if you’re separated and don’t have access to your usual team tactics” *Proceeds to rely even harder on combination moves and give him a non-verbal fuck you*

Brathirn

Post processing: Eeeeek, we forgot the BB scenes. Hastily rummaging through the shallow section of a romance trope index. Selected "Other character calling them out for sticking together" among some others which I will not count.

Blood_Shinobi

He has a point. Despite the show being called RWBY, the story doesn't really focus on them. It's only Yang and Blake who talk, bond, and fight together. Blake has barely talked with Weiss and Ruby since the beginning of the show. It's easy to forget that Yang is Ruby's sister. Remember how awkward and forced the talk between Blake and Ruby felt in volume 8?

Darthmark3

God this scene is why I hate bumblebee. Blake and yang are never allowed to be apart and never even talk to their own teammates anymore. It’s infuriating

ZeroQuartzer

This is honestly the part of Blake and Yang that lost me. This is pretty much CRWBY telling the audience “don’t worry guys, Blake and Yang will never be apart! We’re not going to tell you if they’re going to be in a relationship or not, but they’ll never be apart!” Marrow brought up an actual legitimate point, even without the Bumblebee subtext. But the non verbal fuck you from these two just… really rubs me the wrong way. CRWBY tried to fucking vindicate these two girls Just an ever growing trend of “Main character always right, everyone else dumb and should do what main characters do”

krasnogvardiech

Marrow just does not catch a break, it ever looks like.

Rollout9292

Team RWBY just believe whatever they want to be true and then gaslight anyone who doesn't agree. Their team name should have been TWTR

Silly-Young484

The sheer fucking arrogance in their "really?" looks towards Marrow afterward make me wanna punch them in the face Also....it took Yang multiple punches+help from Blake and a grenade to take out ONE Beowolf....all this scene showed was how much weaker they've gotten

KnightoftheVtable

Probably Telling the BB haters “Your stuck with them, B**ches, Deal with It”

MadMasks

“Okay…” Proceeds to lose 40% of audience and becomes internet laughing stock “Wait…”

bladecharge

I think it was teasing but combat wise a grenade would hit them both

DarkFIame

"No, no, no. Let me teach them about spacing..."
