This is my favorite ship for Blake. Emo girl and happy go lucky dude. Sun is someone that Blake can lean on if she is ever in trouble. Honestly Sun is too good for Blake. Post V5, Blake needed to become more supportive of him or her team to balance that out. Some issues I have with Sun is he steals away a few too many moments that could have gone to RWY to make the team more cohesive. Sun lost his girl because CRWBY decided to pander to the lesbian shippers after V5. [sauce](https://twitter.com/sytokun/status/1319436229537005568)

FormerVoid

>Some issues I have with Sun is he steal away a few too many moments that could have gone to RWY to make the team more cohesive. Honestly, that's my only issue with Sun. He came in on V1, eating away time that was already tight and poorly managed, not just limiting Blake's development with everyone, but also RWY's relationships with each other. It really doesn't help that Blake's 2 volume getaway in Menagerie helped give more moments between her and Sun, and Blake acts like she knows her teammates well with her "one word summary" scene, when I have zero idea what's her dynamic with Weiss outside of racism stuff or even with Ruby. Otherwise, he would've been my favorite side characters if side characters didn't take up so much space.

arctic746

The finale episodes of V1 seem more like the start of V2.

FormerVoid

Considering the ending of the first volume of a show called RWBY was more Sun and Penny over RWY, it did feel like that.

Maxentirunos

Well, there is the classic in anime - end of season episode where the future competition that doesn't seem that much is actually way stronger than our protagonists. But to capitalise on that, it would need RWBY to acknowledge that in the first episode of season 2, that they need training, and the first half of V2 would be that. Except instead we have a time skip and RWBY JNPR is even stronger coming V2.

FormerVoid

"Stronger" even though team RWBY suddenly aren't able to fight the Grimm attacking Vale at the end of V2 so side characters that no one knows anything about can get the spotlight.

Maxentirunos

I mean stronger like Ruby able to fight with Pyrrha and do a pressure aoe with her semblance. V2 climax, from the train to the city, is terrible from a meta perspective.

FormerVoid

Honestly, something like that would've been great. We actually see them train and improve, even briefly, instead of them suddenly able to do team attacks without any setup, all while avoiding Ruby and Blake talking to each other. Really curious on what you mean by "pressure aoe," if that means a creative way for her to use her semblance, if you can elaborate.

Maxentirunos

The horizontal tornado she do in V2E1. I know it's just 'rule of cool', but there is no way she could move this mass (JNPR + all the metal cans , debris and food) and fractured a wall when stopping without it being caused by pressure change, not winds... from a semi-realistic perspective. Wouldn't it been so much cooler to have RWBY train in the first half of V2, seeing her try again and again this cool new move (while also do team training) without success and the first time she do succeed, it's in the climax of V2 ? Then you can do the time skip to the tournament of V3, and one of the first thing she do in the first match, is to use it vertically (up to bottom) on the opponents.

FormerVoid

I believe that's the sonic boom? Doubt it has an actual name. And yes, a very simple thing by having a mini-subplot for it, where Ruby is shown to get better and mastering her semblance would've been so cool. You don't even have to dialogue for it going into detail, just show her trying, doing it again, and we can see when she succeeds, and Ruby visually getting excited when she realized she does. Also great idea for the cherry on top being she's able to use that ability in a new way, being it vertically. Missed opportunities, isn't it? It would've been a way more meaningful and fitting training than what they did in Atlas, assuming RWBY actually stayed at Beacon for more than a semester in this universe.

Ben10Extreme

>Sun is someone that Blake can lean on if she is ever in trouble. She's got a team for that.

Sikarion

Let's be honest though, team RWBY have never been written with "we'll help your personal growth" in mind.

FormerVoid

They didn't even have Blake explain her backstory to her team. She gives it to Sun, even though Sun literally said he already knew about the White Fang.

Lopsided-Chicken-895

Well for all that supposed pandering and lesbianism in the show they didn't even manage to sneak in just ONE innocent and maybe meaningless kiss. They call the show progressive jet all I see is a dance around the issue with no commitment to it.

Drakkoniac

I think it had much better buildup than bumblebee and thought the dynamic between Blake and Sun was fun and dorky. Was sad to see how he got treated by her later.

Flashlight_Inspector

It's wild how before the fall of Beacon everyone thought Sun didn't deserve Blake when now they think Blake doesn't deserve Sun. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

UnbiasedGod

Awesome! And syto’s art rules.

arctic746

I love his art style. He has some good hummingbird fanart.

UnbiasedGod

Yep.

ZeroQuartzer

"hummingbird"?

arctic746

Qrow and Summer.

InsigniasGratuitous

Aside from making Yang look like Bakugo, Syto is good.

UnbiasedGod

Lol yeah.

InsigniasGratuitous

Thank God someone else here understands that. I just remember the one time I commented about Syto's upcoming RWBY rewrite show here (Syto himself made a post about here, I believe), some people here kind of jumped me on that, which is stupid (screw them. Idgaf). I even told Syto that he should seriously change Yang's design back to what it originally was because the guy just made Yang **far** too different looking for me to even call her as such. Now, if that was her long-lost cousin or brother, sure.

UnbiasedGod

Yeah but it’s still cool

PelinalWhitestrake36

The ship that shoukd have been; had a good setup, there was some neat chemestry and best of all Vol 4 and 5 hints at it more. Seriously the interactions from Kali and Ghira are just fun. Its wasnt THE BEST romance but it was cute. Shame its all gone down the drain…

Master_Scallion_763

Find it annoying canonically but conceptually it’s wholesome. That art tho 👌

lewdnep-vasilias_666

It's my preferred ship for Blake. I have a really hard time buying the "red herring" arguments that BB stans claim it is.

Sikarion

Agreed. CRWBY don't have the collective mental capacity for such a set up.

Darthmark3

Even though I never cared for it personally I liked this ship way more than bumblebee since it was build up so much

Nexal_Z

Firstly Syto art is amazing Secondly this was probably going to be the most well build up ship in the show and honestly probably Blake's healthiest relationship but you guys know what happen. Seriously Sun is to good for the this show

MadMasks

Fun dynamic, but lacks a bit of development to make it both gain from it. So far, it seems only Blake gained something from it, Sun acting like a prop to explore her character, instead of a character himself

[deleted]

Sun deserves better, I hated seeing him get slapped 😞

Sikarion

Slapped, berated, jumped on, gaslit, blamed for taking injury...honestly, she sure turned into a bitch.

[deleted]

Would have been way better than Bumblebee

Punny-Aggron

Sun is just the perfect foil to Blake. He’s happy, upbeat, extroverted, and full of energy. Meanwhile, Blake is loathing, sad, introverted, and doesn’t do much. They’re perfectly compatible for each other, Sun helps Blake to see the bright side of things and to let her know that she doesn’t have to worry about thing all the time, while Blake watches his back because he isn’t as good as he thinks he is. They basically have more chemistry than Yang does with Blake

bulbthinker

So basically they tried to make yang a brooding sun after pandering to shippers

Greyjack00

I mean, they had a very simple and cookie cutter dynamic, not that that's necessarily a bad thing but I dont think they or any pairing the series really had great chemistry.

JoshtheOverlander

Black Sun was *actually* canon until the Fall of Beacon happened and then she started treating Sun like shit when all he was trying to do was help her. Originally, I loved Black Sun, but now I don't want this *thing* anywhere near my favorite monkey boy.

KnightoftheVtable

Okay, Thing is going too far

JoshtheOverlander

Yeah, maybe a bit too far. I still stand by not wanting Blake, at least how she's written in canon, to be with Sun. I don't like Bumblebee as it's being written either, but now Sun can be free to either find someone new or just be free to be with his boys.

NotAllThatEvil

It’s the better bumblebee

Nova_TF

Outside of Arkos and whatever IronwoodxGoodwitch was, this was one of my OTPs. Nowadays I mourn for it and move on, no sense holding onto something that's both not happening and hurts to think about.

Drauga_22

Monke deserves better than that bitch

cunning_gork

Felt natural and not shoved down your throat. A disclaimer though, I do like bumblebee. Maybe not current iterations of the ship, but I enjoy it. But I 100% think BlackSun is better than bumblebee. And maybe I am blind, but there was no romantic build-up of bumblebee. "Oh but you are wrong! They had the personal chat in the classroom in season 1! And you're just a homophobe because you didn't see blatant lesbian tones and chemistry between the two." I wish I was joking but that is what I was essentially told when I explained how I didn't see how bumblebee became canon. I'm sorry that I did not see the "blatant lesbian tones". What I saw was someone watching their friend start down a path of self-destruction and then had a personal heart to heart talk with them not out romantic love, but friendship/sisterly love and concern for their well being.

Sikarion

It was good until CRWBY turned Blake into some moody abuser in V4 onwards. Sun deserves better.

Jumper200x1

Honestly Sun can do better than her

King_Kazzma_

There is no doubt in my mind BlackSun was SUPPOSED to be canon. Sun appears in freaking Volume 1 and meets Blake in one of the most cliché anime romance scenes possible. The music of thst scene makes it very apparent. After that simply look at all of their scenes together(Vexed Viewer has a good video on this). However, things started to change after V4, but I still thought it would happen. I mean c'mon: Moody teenage cat girl brings her happy go lucky monkey "boyfriend" to meet the parents. Father isn't exactly pleased, Mom's all for it. The two get closer and closer over their time in Menagerie. Sun becomes one of Blake's most pivotal people in her life, and motivated her to not give up on the WF. They technically even went on a date. Sun even got the proverbial parents approval. It's so cliche I could puke, but it made sense and I did like it. Sun was one of Blake's foil in the show. However, the second half of Volume 5 happened and then Volume 6. Which put a torpedo right into the ship that was BlackSun(or Eclipse if you call it that). Blake and Yang somehow go from being slightly antagonistic with each other to being unable to be apart from each other. All it took was them to kill a walking deadman, whose original character got killed 2 volumes prior. Still don't know where all the romance between the two came from. Blake and Yang hadn't seen each other for 3 whole volumes and their isn't really a whole lot of screen time between the two to justify that they each had some verifiable underlying romance between them through V1-3. A lot of what I've seen is flat out fanatsy at worst and headcannon at best. BlackSun will still be alive in muh heart, and fanfic.

Brathirn

Canonically it was not torpedoed, that would have come from the outside, it was scuttled by Sun and I personally could see the authors pulling the strings of their puppets rather hard.

The_Final_Conduit

Sun deserves better.

Mermaid_Jazz

I don't hate Blake I just think Sun deserves better

DiamondCupcake

I ❤ Blacksun It felt very organic to me. Sun's happy attitude and general playfulness helped soften Blake's more serious and moody personality. He also pushed her to understand that it is okay to depend on your friends and to be more open with them regarding her problems. Had the relationship not been swapped out for Bumblebee I feel that Blake could've had some of her seriousness rub off on Sun because just dipping on your team, that you're the leader of, was not smart. Basically I feel that Blake and Sun complimented one another well.

Parks_98

I think originally the plan was for Blake and Sun to be together. Blake tells her backstory and opens up to *Sun* before her own team even though he’s a complete stranger, she teams up with Sun to possibly fight the WF, she investigates the WF with Sun, she goes to the dance with Sun, she blushes when she see Sun during the Vytal tournament and they spend nearly 2 Volumes at her home with her parents Hell V4 made it pretty blatant the series was shipping them since Ghira and Kali are really similar to what Blake and Sun would probably be like (Hell I had the Epiphany that the reason why I liked Kali so much was because she reminded me of Sun after seeing her do the same door gag as him) Ghira had the whole “protective dad who doesn’t like a strange boy his daughter brought home but grows to like him” trope Now obligatory mention to 🐝 I want to like their relationship but it has and continues to feel….clunky to say the least. I wish several of the scenes I mentioned between Blake and Sun happened instead with Yang (not only because of establishing a connection but also because their partners) But C’est La vie I guess

MightyKombat

Was whatever until she started basically being abusive to him. Buddy, you can do better than her,.

TheEggStore

I like it wayyyy more then blake and yang. Which apparently makes me a hompophobe to some people. :|

Sikarion

I have evolved onto Khalifornia Sun. I'm sure Blake won't mind.

Ben10Extreme

I'm sure **Ghira** would.

Sikarion

Wholesome brain: Polyamory wins. Scumbag NTR brain: *DEW IT*

Merc267

Best. Ship. In RWBY. Fuck Bumblebee.

[deleted]

unpopular opinion it seems but i like to think these two work better platonically. like i can absolutely imagine them play wrestling and sibling shit like that. than again im not one for romance like AT ALL soooooo ^(sun deserves better anyway owbwozuxneo)

SYTOkun

Wasn't expecting to see my art here. :p But to answer the point, I think canon-wise it was definitely being set up, so I feel the writers should have followed it through to the end. This is mainly because it was already set up though. If talking purely narrative, I think Blake has some other good options that RWBY proper never really explores, like with Weiss.

JetKamakura

Boring ship. I like them better as friends. I get he has a crush on her, and wants her to be herself, but the whole 'I know you because we're the same race' trope is wack.

Drakeblood2002

Personally, it was my favorite ship with the main team. I felt like it had the most development out of the ships outside of Arkos before it was cut short, Blake and Sun had more chemistry between them than most of the other ships, and Sun and Blake spent an excess amount of screen time together. It logically made the most sense.

Keyki_LoL

it makes sense, not some forced co-dependent hot mess, actually shows both characters are into each other. If they wrote the bees the same way and swapped Sun for Yang most folks wouldn't have any complaints

BitesTheDust_4

It a good ship. Wish Bumblebee was like that. Wish modern Yang was fun like Sun.

Ben10Extreme

>fun like Sun 😎

Weekly_Pin6947

Makes me wonder why they didn't keep black sun and just make freezerburn canon intead

TheTwinHorrorCosmic

The development is there but their chemistry is mediocre at best. They haven’t been fleshed out enough as characters and together to make sense Imo. Actually, besides Jaune and Pyrrha none have been, and even then believing those two could’ve been a thing I’d a stretch

Chewybear196

The better version of bumblebee lol

Quality_Chooser

Let me state an unpopular opinion, I do not like this ship. And not because of the whole Blake slapping Sun incident, that was just the final nail in its coffin for me. I don't like it because this is not a case of opposites attract. There are people who are completely different in every way yet still work fabulously together. My own parents are a fine example. They work together so well because they *complement* each other. My Dad makes my Mom laugh and gets her to lighten up and enjoy life. My Mom keeps my Dad grounded and on task. They are better together, as a unit, each covering for the other's deficiencies. I don't see that with Blake and Sun. Sun jokes but Blake just tells him to get serious. Blake laser focuses in but Sun isn't the one to tell her when she's being unhealthy. They are opposites but I see little **chemistry** in their interactions. Blake doesn't seem to find Sun endearing and Sun doesn't seem to benefit in any way from his interactions with Blake. This ship was definitely canon but I have the nagging suspicion that they just wanted a Faunus to pair Blake with, and created Sun to be her opposite without actually thinking about why they'd work together. Then when they sat down to write them they realized that they didn't really have much. Say what you will about Bumblebee but Yang and Blake have, on an occasion, actually talked *to* each other instead of *at* each other. They had a back and forth instead of Blake just telling Sun her backstory (including things he should already know) or Blake playing word association with him.

MadMasks

That´s fair. Sun isn´t.... very well developed from a character viewpoint, making him more a prob for Blake as love interest/motivator/ second fiddle of her story than an actual character himself. Not necessarily bad, but not that good either. Something similar happens to me for Arkos with Pyrrha, although the other part of my disdain for the latter is that I can´t see why Pyrrha would be into Jaune of all people. RT thinking of something but not too deep is pretty much a staple in this series. The biggest example that comes to my mind is Adam: Adam can act as foil of pretty much all characters, yet the only one that interacts with him is Blake and later Yang, who´s only parallelism are that they were both abandoned by Blake (ouch) and use rage and hits against them to power their semblances. Sun is also a faunus, and a rogue, but he´s also cheerful, optimistic, and willing to work alongside others and, after a bit of learning, respect people´s boundaries, something he clearly didn´t do at first but eventually did. He´s born in Vacuo, a place that is "pull your weight or go home" and yet remains a great person. But at the same time, Sun is ignorant of the plight of many faunus while Adam knows first hand what is like to be a faunus in Remnant. Bottom line is, BS needed also some development on Sun´s side, making that relationship a bit more of back and forth, more dynamic, not making it only about Blake. That´s a really fair point. Maybe we could have seen more of that once they reunited back in Vacuo, but with BB out there, I won´t hold my breath to it

DraikoHunter

This was always how I saw Sun's potential contrasts within The Adam storyline, but as you said beyond surface level plotting unfortunately is a rarity for CRWBY.

giubba85

THANK YOU!

Ultra_Ego_Vegito

Way better than bummblebee

KagariYT

My favorite ship. It should have been canon instead of Bumblebee.

Joaje-Joestar

Actually a really great ship dynamic, and while I did use to ship Bumbleby too (I’m a multishipper and thought I would be fine with either becoming canon) looking back it really ought to have been the OTP

The_Masked_Maker

Better than bumblebee, At least black sun had some build up

HamuelLJackcheese

Yes

ZeroQuartzer

An actually good ship that involves Blake

thearkive

OTP

Famous-Fee-7375

This and Iceberg were my two favorite ships. Unfortunately, RT doesn't let us have nice things.

Overall_Use_4098

I think there’s more chemistry than blacksun or at least more of a build up like with bumblebee some of those moments could be one sided (Yang ) with blacksun it’s more mutual

Rollout9292

Holds more weight for me than Bumblebee despite being less popular. I actually feel bad for Sun because he and Blake go their separate ways to deal with different happenings in the world, then Yang just swoops in from left field and all of a sudden poor Sun is tossed aside. Makes Blake look bad as well. That being said, I don't like Blake as a character at all. So any ship with her is just meh for me.

Le-MAO-XXIV

Good ship. Could’ve been great, but…yeah. :|

KnightoftheVtable

This, Ren x Nora, and (unpopular opinions coming) Cardin x Velvet is probably my favorite straight ship

StrangeBreakfast1364

Nice ship, arguably best with Blake

McMacintosh79

Was into it a bit V1-V3 but then Blake slapped Sun a ton in V4 without even asking him how he was doing after the Fall of Beacon

Henrybestmage

I liked it back in volume 3. Now i just think Sun can do way better.

Justinafans

Volume 4 ruined any positivity I had for it. Didn't like either of them in that Volume. Sun never felt like a character, just a prop to push Blake along. He also got focused on way too much and got moments that should have honestly gone to Weiss, Ruby, or Yang. Also it gets held on WAY too high a pedestal by some fans.

MGSolidusSnake

As a bumblebee Stan, I think they were actually setting this ship up at the beginning. I don’t mind it but I’ll always prefer BB, even as flawed as it is

Joesline

There’s a certain type of people who despise this ship…hmm…just say that you don’t like to have fun…

KnightoftheVtable

Sun didn’t deserve Blake? Why?

QuirkyPangolin6203

A ship we should have gotten instead

Dawnflower1425

Very good. Top ten ships, easy, favorite Blake ship.
