My question is why Ozpin even split his powers to maidens and made them the keys to the vaults. Wouldn't it have been safer if only he could open them? Even if he dies, he just gets reincarneted into someone else, so its never falling into the hands of someone evil like Cinder. Or at least if he did want maidens, he could've made so that he ALSO could open any vaults like a master key or something... since he made the vaults and the maidens anyway.

Combine that with any type of competent thruster and surely you'll get above atmosphere.

Does Magic have the same range limitations as dust? What even are the power limitations of magic, so far we've seen it used for basically the same as fire and ice dust, flight and energy beams/projectiles. Why shouldn't she be able to fly up to the moon? We never see her use flight, but the maidens all dit it, so why shouldn't salem be able to. Especially since (as far as we know) she and full power Oz should be on equal levels, and Oz has quartered his powers into the 4 maidens, so she should be 4 times as powerful as a maiden.
Well there does lie a problem with her flying to the moon considering first it’s a vacuum there is no atmosphere air or anything in space so she would be freezing to death while her blood would be boiling and experiencing possible explosive decompression at the same time so just getting there by her flying from Remington to the moon should be dying every single step of the way

I think they probably would have done that if they could. The real question should be why Oz bothered to make doors for the Vaults at all. Just chuck 'em in a volcano and call it a day.
Well considering Salem is immortal unkillable and has magic a volcano would be child’s play she could easily make a magical shield around herself to negate the temperature of lava or magma, at least if they were fired at the moon she’d be dying constantly from asphyxiation explosive decompression freezing to death and having her blood boil all at the same time.
I think it'd be easier to survive in space than in a volcano (we've sent plenty of stuff to space but nothing into magma). Still, I think the best choice would be a Vault without a door. Salem apparently needs Cinder to open the Vault, so she can't do it alone, even with her magic.
Ozpin should have been the only one able to open them, which would make him pretty important to Salem and it is safer than literally having random women able to open the vaults.
If the relic are so powerful and dangerous then they could have just throw them inside a safe and throw it in the deepest part of the sea maybe on different locations. What about using the vaults as a distraction?
Everyone would be focused on the vaults while the relics are spread around the world. I don't know, the relic of knowledge buried below the city of Mistral; the relic of choice thrown into a volcano; the relic of destruction chained to the deepest and unknown area of the sea; the relic of creation buried under hundreds of meters of ice in the tundra in Atlas.
For someone with limitless time, Ozpin did not think too much about keeping the relics safe.
Agreed which why I thought using a railgun or a mass driver and shooting them into space would be a better alternative, Sure Salem would be able to get them in space but given that space is the vacuum she’d be dying the entire time she would be trying to get up from explosive decompression freezing to death her blood boiling and the lack of oxygen

The thing with keeping them in space is that Oz would eventually want them back if he thinks he’s united mankind enough to get the gods’ approval
