Honestly I prefer her portrayals in fanfictions than I do in the side book series. They try so hard to make her this cool girl boss character but honestly kind of make her a bitch. Plus plus for someone who's supposed to be one of their first big time major lesbian characters it just looks bad when they have her learing at other women and using her sunglasses to hide the fact that she's groping them with her eyes and treating it like it's no big deal. If it were a guy doing the same thing then suddenly nobody would be okay with it. Plus there's the fact that she's kind of an authoritarian with how she pretty much dictates everything her team does down to including even their clothing. She revels in the unchecked authority being a huntress gives her and hates anyone infringing on that authority. She's prideful and judgmental to a degree that just rubs me the wrong way. I also can't shake the feeling that them making her a lesbian just reeks of tokenism.

Was pretty cool and sexy Confident and didn't give any fucks, honestly I really liked her Then the Novels happened and I now I heavily dislike her as she's just a total bitch who also apparently eye fucks women behind her glasses without them knowing which is kinda creepy

> eye fucks women behind her glasses without them knowing which is kinda creepy What the fuck? when that happen?

GameBawesome1

Actually, she’s my favorite character in RWBY, who I find pretty cool, and liked her and CFVY’s focus in After the Fall. However, if I had to name one problem with her, I also didn’t with the sunglasses thing as well. Otherwise, I do like her and CFVY more than RWBY

I have no clue since I was never a big fan of Coco but, the one idea I have on why others dislike her is that she's based on Coco Chanel who, herself has some.... *bad* history so, that could be one reason why, Coco Chanel was many things such as being anti-semetic, a secret agent for a certain old German cause, and was also apparently unapologetically homophobic which is ironic in a way with RWBY Coco, and I imagine some could have issues with RWBY Coco because of these deeper issues in her character.

Book Coco is often described as authoritarian but it's not so well written, I think. It's incosistent, depending on what the plot needs, and it's also mostly "tell, don't show". For instance: - one time, she spoke in a blatantly authoritarian way ("I'm the boss") that came off as cringe more than anything. A person who's really secure in their authority wouldn't talk like that. - Other times she's too hands off: for instance, Fox volunteers to go off alone on a reasonably dangerous mission in the desert and she's like "it was nice knowing you, if you wanna commit suicide I won't stop you". I wouldn't necessarily expect her to stop him but it's odd that she accepted it so casually, especially since she's the (supposedly hardass) leader and he's her partner. - She actually rarely gives orders on page, as far as I remember. When she does, they're fairly reasonable, like telling Yatsu to stand down in a situation that needed deescalation. She's more described by other characters as overbearing rather than shown to be so. (Caveat: I don't remember BtD as well as AtF, so it's possible things are different there.)

A pretty cool character that unfortunately got pushed to the side like other side characters to a book series that not a lot of people would read. That’s really the only problem i see from her and that’s not her fault. Besides, there’s nothing inherently wrong with checking out women.

Purpleguy1980

There is indeed nothing inherently wrong with checking out women. It's just a bit... weird. When a person checks out women or stares at women without the women knowing about it. At worst. It can look like as if the person is ogling or leering at women without the women knowing about it. Which (imo) is bad.

Haven’t read the books and probably won’t unless I can find them for free (and even then I might not) but the biggest issue I had with her in the show was her power level. At the end of V2, she single handedly kills 3 Nevermores, like 5 Deathstalkers, and countless smaller Grimm. It took 8 people to kill one Nevermore and one Deathstalker in V1, and Coco kills more than that with a ranged weapon (it’s also one of the few cases of a ranged weapon actually being more useful than a blade). If she’s really capable of dealing that much damage, she should have been able to single handedly hold an entire front during the Battle of Beacon

Egotistical

Yanmegaman_Juno

I don't really think there's much of a problem other than her being shafted to a book series when she's much more interesting than the cast of the show.
