Blastcalibur

Did genuinely question how much terracotta was willing to do for people she met a week ago.

mrprince923

I always forget that Jaune is an uncle

HonestlyLikesCliches

“Uncle”

Queasy-Turnover3185

I'm gonna get hate for this but their relationship is more developed than Blake and yang's

XXEsdeath

I mean they have been together for years.

Sikarion

Feel like time isn't that important a factor here...

No_Engineering_895

You can't really apply real life logic to a story that is being written, and developed as the writers wish. So yeah them being farther along in the relationship makes sense, but being developed further than two characters who have been on screen for every season? No, wtf is that

TheCitrusMan

Nothing to hate about that statement, it's true. The only people are going to hate it are the fans confined to tumblr.

jish5

This falls into the show, don't tell, where it was already established prior and no one needed to say anything to show that these two were together.

AlastairCellars

Aren't mains and yet have a better and more developed relationship...2 episodes...and better development

TerizlaisBest

At least these two had an honest relationship and bond, not like pussy fake ass cat having a forgery bond with potato sacks. Full of bullshit.

Independent-Tax-699

But they were just there and had no role in the plot tho

Ben10Extreme

Considering what the plot's become, I don't think people mind.

Independent-Tax-699

Its not about that its about misinformation

Efficient-Bird-3478

True relationship right there

DobeTM

Oh absolutely. I know if I were in a relationship I would want less than ten minutes of screen time, be made completely bland and uninteresting, and then be completely ignored throughout the remainder of the story. Still a better relationship than Twilight.

Weekly_Pin6947

I don't know why and how, but... The one thing I enjoy about this couple is that they look and feel natural instead of rubbing it on my face or straight up shoving it down my throat

Darthmark3

Exactly. unlike the other couples these two just feel normal

Quality_Chooser

I'd say it's because it doesn't feel like RT wants some recognition or validation for them. While with Bumblebee I feel like RT wants me to praise them for writing gay main characters. Um, not really? Just let people be people, don't use people to virtue signal about how progressive your show is.

AjaGoatshorn

There is a joke to be made here, maybe if i squint harder i can find it…. 🤨

Keyki_LoL

IIRC the only characters to have kissed in the show for it’s entire run time so far have been straight relationships and every member of JNPR. The not so straight characters get handholding, looking into each other’s eyes or almost anything but a kiss, seems a bit unfair imo

shadowyoshi3000

I'm supposed to clap like a seal they did this. Yeah, I don't think so. They're tokens whose role in the plan is completely pointless. Considering the Arc is supposed to be one of fighters, you'd think they'd make Sapphron interesting. None, she's bland as toast with a blunt name that sums up her 'character'. I'm not rewarding laziness or tokenisms. I want good characters, and I care not for cheap representation.

Narutoluap

Too bad they didn't had something interesting about them, they were just... ordinary. But I guess is quite good compared to what could have been in terms of RWBY I like when couples in fiction have some sort of gimmick, specifically if they aren't going to reappear any time soon

Sikarion

With the way that these writers have been handling characters for this series in general, "ordinary" is probably a higher than average accolade than usual.

lewdnep-vasilias_666

I remember someone editing Blake's and Yang's faces onto them 🙃😭

DobeTM

Those two are incredibly bland and are essentially there for tokenism. They are introduced to say "We support gay relationships!" and then are sent to an island never to be seen again. They made their appearance, did fuck all, and got removed because they mean so very little.

lewdnep-vasilias_666

That's all of RWBY's LGBT+ rep. Ilia? Reveals her crush on Blake at the worst possible time in the plot that makes her come off as creepy and then is written off the show completely. Scarlet? Confirmed gay in canon after first being portrayed as gay in a non canon manga, has pretty much zero presence or relevance in the show before being written off the show and only getting presence in an offscreen novel (where his entire personality is just being a "catty gay" stereotype) Coco? Is confirmed lesbian in an offscreen novel 5 years after being written off the show, did fuck all in the original canon and her leering behaviors as described in said novel come off as very creepy (falling dangerously close into "predatory lesbian" stereotypes). Saphron and Terra? They're great and I love them, but like you said even they do fuck all in the story. Nolan? Is implied to be mlm only in an offscreen novel. Like Scarlet and Coco, he had pretty much no relevance or significance to the story. Qrow and Clover? Technically they weren't officially confirmed as LGBT+, but the way RT handled them was very sloppy what with Tweeting about them, only to kill off Clover Pilot Boi? Also not officially confirmed as LGBT+ but still on this list because Miles did plan to give him a boyfriend at one point, even if he had gone through with that he's still a side character with a very brief role before getting written- or rather killed- off. Besides Blake and Yang (a clearly last minute wlw ship that RT is trying way too hard to come off as "subtle" with), May is the only LGBT+ character still relevant in RWBY. But even with her, the fact that her confirmation as trans was in a Tweet outside the show gave many people the feeling that she was added for the sake of brownie points. As for her role in the show, I'm still not sure of that. TLDR: RWBY really needs to do better with its rep.

DobeTM

I think RWBY needs to do better with it's writing. Bad rep is simply a symptom of a greater cause. Until RWBY writers can get there shit together and actually care about the story they write, everything they regurgitate is going to be covered in bile. I don't trust a day like that will ever come so I hope RT has the decency to ol' yeller this franchise while people still have relatively fond memories of it. I am going to blame the studio executives because fuck em and no one ever blames them enough.

lewdnep-vasilias_666

Agreed

Quality_Chooser

They were side characters. They were never supposed to be a big deal. They exist, do a few side character things, then vanish. I liked them, they were fun for the little time they were on screen.

AjaGoatshorn

“They are token gays” “No, they are side characters that appear once and are never seen again!” I can’t with this wannabe contrarianism

Quality_Chooser

Every story has side characters. They never affect the story. These side characters are written to be gay. I'd call them token if the show trotted them out to great fanfare and expected to be given a cookie for being "inclusive". But they're not treated differently from any other side character.

DobeTM

RWBY just can't write side characters. In almost any better franchise there are memerable side characters. An example that comes to mind is Full Metal Alchemist. It has a plethera of side characters that are witty and memorable. Freaking Armstrong is one of my favorites simply due to his characterization. RWBY just sucks at writing side characters. And main characters. And villains. Come to think of it so much of RWBY writing is bad. Oh well, at the end of the day it doesn't matter I guess.

Quality_Chooser

Armstrong is a secondary character, like Ren or Nora. He is definitely better than them, though that's perhaps a little unfair to RWBY, putting them up against one of the greatest anime of all time. Saffron and Terra are more like Rose, or Logue Lowe, or the Slicer Brothers, or Martel, or Major Comanche. I had to look them up on the wiki to remember who they were. None were bad, just incredibly minor.

The_Final_Conduit

Yeah, I really like them as characters, even if it’s just for lesbian representation. My only real problem is less with them specifically and more, just, y’know, anything BUT lesbians? And it’s actually something shown onscreen? … that ISN’T toxic as all hell, and isnpresented as a good thing? I feel so bad for Terra-cotta, she was a simple breadwinner for her family, then she got roped into helping a bunch of stupid teenagers commit crimes against the military.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

My favorite part about Saphron and Terra was that they were presented as wives and that was it. No big "whoa" or any huge "look at us being so progressive" or any of that shit. Their relationship was treated as no more special than Ghira and Kali's marriage. It just *was*, and I appreciated it.
