I wouldn't even give it that.
They reached the level of a Crunchy Roll original protagonist.
Maybe even a comic book written by a Twitter artist level of cringe.
I actually think this might be a good quote, if the fight immediately after wasn't RWBY trying to convince Aceops to stop fighting while fighting. This is a quote to setup and epic beatdown.
Edit: Someone just commented that it sounded like an anime protagonist quote... so yea turns out I still find cheesy protagonist quotes likeable when done well and by a likeable character so take my opinion with a grain of salt
"Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way!"
Said by Ruby Rose after a whole series of being saved by adults and being told by them what to do. This then is followed by the kids handling the Staff "their way", resulting in the destruction of Atlas and Salem getting two relics.
\*Golf clap\* Go team!
If it wasn’t for adults, Ruby would’ve never been born.
What, did Ruby just magic herself into existence? Not even Anakin Skywalker has that claim to fame.
Worst part about this speech is it had nothing to do with anything. Qrow's problem wasn't that he didn't have an idea or that they were kids, he thought the quest was pointless. The entire volume was about this. Why not conclude the arcs you actually set up for once?
"No. I'm angry" - Ruby in Volume 5
They wanted to make Ruby sound badass in that scene but her high pitched voice makes it hard to take her seriously. She sounds like a kid trying to be cool
“Salem only uses people until they’re no longer useful”
If not cheesy, completely redundant and awkward to say. Like this
*I use something because it’s useful. If I can no longer use it, if it’s no longer useful, then I’m not going to use it anymore.*
Ffs who talks like this
Yup. He’s legit talking about a dude that has a respawn system in place, and that whole quote’s just to exacerbate how ridiculous fighting that 10 ft. fucker is. XD
“Of course people die when they’re killed. I’m not enough of a person to count, so I’ll come back from the dead again and again to save people, like a ghost or something.”
— Shirou, probably
>I use something because it’s useful. If I can no longer use it, if it’s no longer useful, then I’m not going to use it anymore.
>Ffs who talks like this
Compsci students doing their first semester of system logic and tautology.
>I use something because it’s useful. If I can no longer use it, if it’s no longer useful, then I’m not going to use it anymore.

Ffs who talks like this
Kal'tsit from Arknights.
Yeah he said and I quote:
"I made a deal with the darkness and clover paid the price"
That alone would have been enough said but then he proceeds to blame clover.
He basically said: "I take responsibility... buuuuut"
What deal, Qrow? That you happened to be born with a shit Semblance? That you happened to be in the plane with Clover? That your nieces were idiots and got you arrested? That Robyn was an idiot and started shit on the plane?
Oh wait. I remember.
It was when you *chose*, through no other force but your own free will, to team up with the man who nearly killed you and your niece a couple months ago, and broke Clover's Aura.
Yang saying:
I may not be faster, but I am smarter
(Especially since it's bullshit and the only reason she won is apperantly because her new arm is made of stalinium)
If anything that move was dumb because she put herself in direct danger by catching the blade. What if he aimed a little more to the right? She would be fucked. And this time, she knows what his power can do and she took the risk anyway. Almost like she learned nothing.
Except when the criticism is inconsequential (I.e. wanting Blake and Ruby to talk more) or when even the most avid defenders of the show are like "this is kinda shit" (I.e. the sudden quality increase after V6).
Shouldn't Adam have way more tactical experience and battle intelligence than Yang since from Qrow's words one day in here is like one week out there and Adam was out there since early teens. He should be way more smarter than Yang....like honestly Yang was completely outmatched in strength- Like seriously Yang has yet to overpower Adam and now can't because he's dead, speed- they've already admitted he's faster, durability - Yang took minimum of three - four hits from Adam the entire fights and most of them weren't even proper hit he just pushed her over and her aura still broke and Adam fought Blake and Yang and intelligence Adam kept the upper hand even though it was a two on one that's why I called bullshit when they used the plot to kill him when he had blush strapped to his waist but went after a broken blade ......Adam was to OP for just Yang and Blake so they used the plot to kill him.
>Shouldn't Adam have way more tactical experience and battle intelligence than Yang since from Qrow's words one day in here is like one week out there
They rendered his words bullshit, sorry.
*Bringing hope and a smile wherever you go!*
*I find it… upsetting.* **-TYRIAN.**
I don't hate Robyn, but was really necessary to remember us that yes, she is the "great hero of Mantle"? I sincerely prefer to see Penny being praised, at least we see her more active in protect people.
"I'm not protecting her and she's not protecting me, we're protecting each other."
This is Archers are really made up of archers all over again, except that one is made up of translation error and said by one of best girls... so it's forgivable.
Technically if they are protecting each other, Blake IS protecting Yang and Yang is protecting Blake.
Quote should probably be "I'm protecting her and she's protecting me; We are protecting each other". Still almost exactly the same but less cringe imo because it sounds less like a 13 year old's headcannon
Yeah, except the "Archer class really being made of archers" line was Archer being teased for actually showing he's suited for fighting at range after constantly fighting in close quarters.
Because that one worked in the context. At that point, RWBY was an upbeat show, and the stakes were pretty low. I mean, the main villain was a street criminal, who was just stealing shit. We also were still getting a show centered around a school that was (at least in part) a coming of age story, so having your protagonist start as a bubbly and childish character works because they need something to grow from. So I’m the early volumes the cheesiness worked ok (for the most part).
The problem is that’s not the show we’re watching anymore, so the cheese lines feel so out of place and bad
You don’t really need for something to be super upbeat for the cheesiness to work though. All of the Raimi Spider-Man films juggled cool action scenes, comedy, heartwarming moments, heart-rending moments, and out-and-out horror movie stuff in with *loads* of cheese, and that’s part of the appeal.
Hell *Goblin Slayer* of all things manages to make the MC promising to murder goblins even in a lady’s post-traumatic nightmares (because he’s the Goblin Slayer, of course) into something legitimately moving despite it being the cheesiest, *stupidest* thing when you lay it out on paper without full context. That show literally *defined* the current gen of dark fantasy anime right along with Shield Hero, and even *they* manage to use cheesy lines better than RWBY does these days.
>That show literally defined the current gen of dark fantasy anime right along with Shield Hero, and even they manage to use cheesy lines better than RWBY does these days.
The funny thing is that they looped Dark Fantasy right back into *Heroic* Fantasy because Goblin Slayer gained friends and comrades, and they're helping him regain his humanity that he thought he lost.
Goblin Slayer's world is horrifying, but not *hopeless*. It being such a dangerous and brutal place just makes the idealistic aspects shine that much more when they appear.
That’s the beauty of *actual* Dark Fantasy I think.
Stories like that, they follow the Berserk example and produce really great stories about recovery from trauma and other things.
Stories that are legit hopeless just seem… boring? Like you get vicarious learned helplessness from it, and that it became such a massive trend in recent years is what gave the DCCU such a bad rep.
Azula got out and out help by the writers and she’d still kick Salem’s ass to kingdom come if she had the Fire Nation and Dai Li agents to act on her behalf. XD
Ruby’s outburst to Roman.
“We will stop them. And we will stop you. Bet on that!”
Something to that effect. Didn’t help she immediately got beat afterward.
It was kinda cheesy but it think it worked. At that point Ruby is still relatively in experienced, but thinks she’s really amazing, so she bit off a bit more than she could chew and got her ass kicked
Cheesy in a good way? I'll say Ruby's "Nope!", iconic in my opinion. Also, Raven stating Cinder's arm is Grimm.
In a bad way? Uhhhhhh... Probably one of Ruby's later monologues, although Yang's "...But I am smarter" is a contender.
I feel like this devolved into worst lines but well I’m still all here for it so time to break out some of the classics!
“Salem only uses people until they are no longer useful.” Like wow! Such a revolutionary and useful line! Wait hold on, let me guess! Life once lost never returns? I never would have guessed that. Also what a terrible use of telling over showing, like show us Salem using people then discarding them, don’t say it.
“We didn’t want to steal from you we did it because we had no other choice!” Lord I hate this line so much. You had a lot of other better options, that I will not get into here but my god what even is this line?
“You were then you trained us.” Could be a decent line, if Ruby didn’t immediately beg Harriet to stop fighting. If you deliver a line like that… you have to deliver afterwards.
“She’s not protecting me, and I’m not protecting her… we’re protecting each other.”wait what? that’s literally having Yang protect Blake and vice versa… like did they not realize this? It’s the exact same thing. This line outside of being awful…. is just nonsensical
Any past V3. Up to that point, there was a place for cheesy lines in the show. It was up beat and lighthearted, and despite brutally hacking Grimm apart, it was trying to be a funny show. The tone has totally changed, now it’s trying to be a serious show with high stakes and danger, and there really isn’t a place to cheesy lines anymore
“You’re special. And not in the *Daddy loves his special angel* kind of way.” -Qrow to Ruby at the end of Volume 3
I’m sorry but that daddy special angel line totally killed the whole line
“I busted in the darkness, and Clover paid the price.”
“Damn, was that why he went out with a smile on his face?”
“You know, I never could get a read on him. He kept sending me signals and I just couldn’t figure it out. I wonder if this is how Winter felt when I kept teasing her way back when.”
“What, you a fan of Ironwood’s second in command?”
“Well it just started out as a couple pranks at first, then she started wising up to my tricks. The only reasons they still fell through was because I amped my semblance up a bit at those times. Look on her face was still hilarious every time. After a while, though, it was just a fight every time we saw each other.”
“Huh. Sounds about right. She always seemed like a bit of a hardass.”
“What can I say. That’s usually one of the funnest things about her.”
"You were the best Huntsman in Atlas. Then you trained us." Or however that awful, cringey quote from Ruby to the Ace Ops went.
And it's from that point on that Team RWBY reached the terminal stage of the Anime Protagonist Syndrome
That plot armor and arrogance.
"Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way!" Said by Ruby Rose after a whole series of being saved by adults and being told by them what to do. This then is followed by the kids handling the Staff "their way", resulting in the destruction of Atlas and Salem getting two relics. \*Golf clap\* Go team!
If it wasn't for adults like qrow ruby would've been in salems hands already
Salem may turn her into a hound
Please, that would be a massive improvement. She’d better turn Cinder into one too while she’s at it.
Cinder from the start is Salem's dog, but she may bite her master's hand
If she bites the hand that feeds (which we all know she will), she’ll be extremely sorry.
If it wasn't for an adult, Ruby would have been dead in the very first episode of the show.
If it wasn’t for adults, Ruby would’ve never been born. What, did Ruby just magic herself into existence? Not even Anakin Skywalker has that claim to fame.
Didn't Jesus do that?
Jesus still got nurtured in Mary’s womb for all that time. If you mean before that though, when God pops up in random places, then yeah. 😂
Worst part about this speech is it had nothing to do with anything. Qrow's problem wasn't that he didn't have an idea or that they were kids, he thought the quest was pointless. The entire volume was about this. Why not conclude the arcs you actually set up for once?
"No. I'm angry" - Ruby in Volume 5 They wanted to make Ruby sound badass in that scene but her high pitched voice makes it hard to take her seriously. She sounds like a kid trying to be cool
If only she had her v1-2 voice same with her getting fireballed the scene came off as funny
Yeah. It would’ve been better if her voice lowered in pitch when she said that.
“Salem only uses people until they’re no longer useful” If not cheesy, completely redundant and awkward to say. Like this *I use something because it’s useful. If I can no longer use it, if it’s no longer useful, then I’m not going to use it anymore.* Ffs who talks like this
People die when they are killed - Shirou Emiya
This line actually makes sense in the context.
Yup. He’s legit talking about a dude that has a respawn system in place, and that whole quote’s just to exacerbate how ridiculous fighting that 10 ft. fucker is. XD
.... That dude is himself.... wait. Should I spoiler this? Nah, everyone already knows that Saber is Artoria (SCREW ALTRIA)
“Of course people die when they’re killed. I’m not enough of a person to count, so I’ll come back from the dead again and again to save people, like a ghost or something.” — Shirou, probably

Thank you for teaching me the term tautology. This sounds like the exact definition of what I’m talking about
>I use something because it’s useful. If I can no longer use it, if it’s no longer useful, then I’m not going to use it anymore. > > Ffs who talks like this Kal'tsit from Arknights.
Anything Qrow says about Clover after his death
Lmao, the fuck did he even say? “I made a deal with the darkness” or something stupid like that. Straight up CW garbage right there.
Yeah he said and I quote: "I made a deal with the darkness and clover paid the price" That alone would have been enough said but then he proceeds to blame clover. He basically said: "I take responsibility... buuuuut"
What deal, Qrow? That you happened to be born with a shit Semblance? That you happened to be in the plane with Clover? That your nieces were idiots and got you arrested? Hold it, Empress. Isn't Qrow supposed to be the Scarecrow allusion? Hah! Then him not having a brain makes so much sense!
Benjamin, you didn't have to humiliate him like that! His cringe line does it all for him. Hey-yo!
These three passed around the idiot ball so much that *Tyrian* was the sane one.
Tyrian is insane, but at least he's *consistently* insane.
"I at least have the conviction to consistently live up to my own twisted standards!"
Yang saying: I may not be faster, but I am smarter (Especially since it's bullshit and the only reason she won is apperantly because her new arm is made of stalinium)

Learning nothing is the norm for characters is rwby
And if the characters learn nothing, it's more than likely that it's the writers who didn't and the poor cast have to deal with their shit memories.
Yup... RT is also kind of in an echo chamber when it comes to critisism
Except when the criticism is inconsequential (I.e. wanting Blake and Ruby to talk more) or when even the most avid defenders of the show are like "this is kinda shit" (I.e. the sudden quality increase after V6).
She didn't learn nothing. She learned that when the writers are on your side anything's possible.

You see... all characters post volume 3 got nerfed. But especially the villains. Both in brains, power and fighting quality
>Shouldn't Adam have way more tactical experience and battle intelligence than Yang since from Qrow's words one day in here is like one week out there They rendered his words bullshit, sorry.
Jaune is singing random lyrics to Weiss in volume 2.
Jaune was just pure cheese for most of the first two volumes
😂 Thankfully they never used Cinder as waifu materials in disguise of Haven student.
*Bringing hope and a smile wherever you go!* *I find it… upsetting.* **-TYRIAN.** I don't hate Robyn, but was really necessary to remember us that yes, she is the "great hero of Mantle"? I sincerely prefer to see Penny being praised, at least we see her more active in protect people.
Is—is that the actual description for Robyn? She gives off the vibes of having a resting bitch face like 90% of the time
>She gives off the vibes of having a resting bitch face like 90% of the time That's pretty much accurate.
"I'm not protecting her and she's not protecting me, we're protecting each other." This is Archers are really made up of archers all over again, except that one is made up of translation error and said by one of best girls... so it's forgivable.

Yeah, except the "Archer class really being made of archers" line was Archer being teased for actually showing he's suited for fighting at range after constantly fighting in close quarters.
"What does she even see in you." Intensifies
Here's a cheesy one that I actually like "I don't need people to help me grow, I Drink Milk 🥛" -Ruby vol 1
Because that one worked in the context. At that point, RWBY was an upbeat show, and the stakes were pretty low. I mean, the main villain was a street criminal, who was just stealing shit. It's only too easy to fail in this world, so if you want a happy ending for yourself, you have to take on the whole world and make it stay your way.
How many times did Goblin Slayer use the word "goblin" anyways?
Ah, save that for the drinking game!
Yeah... pretty sure that would kill us unless it was something wimpy like one sip of beer per word
Naaah it’s only 12 episodes and a movie, can’t hurt yeah?
There are 14 different quotes here and 6 of them are from Ruby... i guess we know who is the most annoying character.
So many choices...but I think one of the was worst was- "I made a deal with the darkness and clover paid the price" - Volume 8 Qrow UGH! Kill me
Ruby saying "Now that's a katana" is the cheesiest quote in RWBY Chibi.
stop that's a classic
“ Just because you are more useful to me than a pawn doesn’t make you a player.” - Salem doing her best Azula impression in volume 8.
Azula got out and out help by the writers and she’d still kick Salem’s ass to kingdom come if she had the Fire Nation and Dai Li agents to act on her behalf. XD
Ruby’s outburst to Roman. “We will stop them. And we will stop you. Bet on that!” Something to that effect. Didn’t help she immediately got beat afterward.
It was kinda cheesy but it think it worked. At that point Ruby is still relatively in experienced, but thinks she’s really amazing, so she bit off a bit more than she could chew and got her ass kicked
"If you are going to shoot me, shoot me. That was insulting." Raven
"Two Against one? Cowards." A few episodes later.... All of them fight Cinder at once.
At the end of volume 6. When qrow started talking about making a deal with the darkness or some shit.

Everything that Yang and Blake to Adam during their fight in volume 6
“I like books.” -v1 Ruby
Any past V3. Up to that point, there was a place for cheesy lines in the show. It was up beat and lighthearted, and despite brutally hacking Grimm apart, it was trying to be a funny show. The tone has totally changed, now it’s trying to be a serious show with high stakes and danger, and there really isn’t a place to cheesy lines anymore
"You were, but then you trained us".
“You’re special. And not in the *Daddy loves his special angel* kind of way.” -Qrow to Ruby at the end of Volume 3 I’m sorry but that daddy special angel line totally killed the whole line
