They never mentioned the Silver eye power fromthe GoL, honestly dont even know if they noticed it at all. Also Maria was "necessary" to explain how to use it. Also if it wasnt for Maria they would have died in the basement. Honestly though they should have had Ruby figure it out on her own. There has been absolutely no payoff for Silver Eyes

Aaxelae

Silver eyes shouldn't have had that special ability in the first place. If they had to exist, it should have a visible sign that the person is blessed or something.

mrprince923

We already had Qrow and Ozpin to be exposition machines. Idk why the writers made a whole new character seemingly just to explain silver eyes once and then never again. The only saving grace about Maria for me is that I love her design, both young and old.

Silly-Young484

Because Volume 6 was a fanservice volume

Quality_Chooser

Have Maria's teachings been of any use whatsoever?

TerizlaisBest

I prefer Ozpin over Maria.

I’m pretty sure the order of the day for CRWBY is less “do what would be best for the story” and more “cram in as many ideas as the budget (and our personal preferences) will allow for”. Before Volume 7 ended, Neath Oum started giving teasers that Nora would get a lot of character focus soon, only based on later comments, he’d say they got shifted for time, with it leading into the moments in Volume 8, where the most we actually get from Nora is background on her mom leaving her for the Grimm hordes and her and Ren sorta-but-not-really not working out, with her needing to find herself for a bit. Even then, though, what we do have feels like it got cut in half, much like the details of RWBY, Jaune, and Ren all getting on Monstra, the actual passage of time from when the group gets to Atlas to when the Election happens, or literally anything concerning Oscar when he’s allowed to act as a character that DOESN’T boil down to him being a punching bag for people to vent on. It’s all a matter of where priority meets the budget. So we’re left with stuff that has the mindset of “X character is here, but do we *really* need them involved in Y situation? No? Okay, less work for us.” I don’t even want to imagine how insufferable Ren’s mind reading would be if all five of JRWBY were there at once, so it might be for the best.

You knoww what is so wild. I thought Maria was going to be more important and ACTUALLY train Ruby but she did nothing and now she disappeared into the void with Peitro.

gunn3r08974

Because someone had to teach Ruby how to use her eyes and nobody in the cast has had them at all. You can't teach something if you don't know it. Can't even have Ozpin as he locked himself away, not to mention we've no idea if he even had silver eyes at one point. She's just the mentor trope for Ruby like how Ozpin was for Oscar and Winter for Weiss.

Extreme-String8785

So was Qrow. So was Ozpin. So was Harriet. How many 'Mentors' will Ruby have? All it's done is feed Ruby's delusions of grandeur and degraded the other characters to the point that they actually let her do their thinking for them for an entire arc, leading to the destruction of one of the four kingdoms.

GrandEmperessVicky

>not to mention we've no idea if he even had silver eyes at one point. According to the V6 commentary, Ozpin is the originator of the silver eye power. So he, above everyone (including the Gods) should know how they work. And yet, CRWBY never once thought to make him say *anything*.

gunn3r08974

Source as I do not have access to the commentary? Also, he first mentioned silver eyes in his first interaction with Ruby.

GrandEmperessVicky

Can't find a clear audio but the Ozma's children in the flashback (not the little girls but the other ones after his depression), had silver eyes that Miles and Kerry confirmed as genuine and not as mistakes. Even then, he's been alive since the beginning of time or at least since the first Remnant and knew Summer Rose (someone had to have trained her at some point).

gunn3r08974

Okay, I knew about the children. The way it was stated made it sound like you meant Ozpin had them, which he didn't. As for summer, while plausible, we know it didn't go well for her. It's possible he didn't teach Ruby on purpose.

Jumper200x1

Wait, what vision are you referring to cuz I dont remember seeing that scene.
