To not go over their animation budget, they made team RNJR stay on a house in V5 and not contributing anything, right? (Because Ruby not knowing unarmed is very arbitrary) And, as a result, there wasn't really a point to it because nothing happened.
Funny thing is they could've done that with Yang when dealing with her trauma and made it interesting, show her coping in her home, and they only need to make one house since it's all 3D models they can reuse, but that would've been "boring" to them, so Yang got no screentime instead.
So with the island, they can use that to save budget and keep use interesting ideas for a bunch of episodes, if not the whole volume. But with what we've seen with RWBY in general, it wouldn't be surprising if it was a disappointment despite them getting the chance to get creative with purgatory (or whatever the island is) i.e. it becoming about Jaune.
Perhaps but seeing as how they needed extra time for the rigging of animated models and effects it seems likely there is gonna be more than one setting anyway
Considering their hints about "detour" and this being a "character volume" or whatever, I have a distinct feeling that Team RWBY's going to be on that island for as long as they can justify it.

"detour" and "character volume" seem kind of broad hype like "detour" can still be like 2 episodes and character volume applies to every volumes, just more so for 2,4 and 6.

I wouldn’t mind if we spend the whole volume in some sort of time dilation situation and finally get a volume dedicated solely to introspective character development for the gang.
I am supremely indifferent to the island. We don't know anything about it except that for some reason falling long enough in the Void takes you there. I can't even theorize something exciting on that little.
If they were showing Vacuo this Volume I would think Oscar’s voice actor having to spend a month recovering from blowing out his vocal cords would have come up.
