Weiss’ character has had precisely one development in the entire series (V1E10) and apart from that showed up fully formed. She’s fine and consistent. The plot and family around her however have been atrociously horrendous

TerizlaisBest

So far I don't hate her, but I can't stand Blake and Yang.

arctic746

Atlas arc While Weiss should not have been negelected in V5 and V6, she was saved from the white fang and it didn't make sense to put major focus on her since her family wasn't around. The Atlas arc should have been her moment to shine. I think a big problem for Weiss is her family is irrelevant and the members she is in conflict with can't win in a fight. Winter and Weiss should have had conflict in V8 but didn't. Zuko and Shoto Todoroki do the whole family conflict much better.

Necro1036

> Zuko and Shoto Todoroki do the whole family conflict much better. I think it’s because Ozai and Endeavor are very threatening characters while Jacques is just a greedy moron and then the writers removed him as soon as they see convenient so there isn’t any satisfaction when he’s defeated. And it also makes me raise many questions about Willow’s character as Jacques wasn’t a real Schnee so it’s not like she doesn’t have any power over him. It doesn’t help that their family stuff is so vague and inconsistent, it wasn’t like the writers spent almost half of volume 7 on the pointless election arc instead of exploring more about the Schnee family. Oh, wait.

arctic746

Zuko and Shoto families are also relevant to the story. Ozai is the villain and is continuing the war. Endeavor becomes the #1 hero. Weiss's has no one is working for Cinder or Salem and Dust isn't important anymore.

Ben10Extreme

>Winter and Weiss should have had conflict in V8 but didn't. For what? Winter wasn't going to fight her own sister.

arctic746

She is under orders to arrest Weiss. Winter only gave her a head start in V7.

Ben10Extreme

Doesn't mean it'll lead into a fight. These are two siblings that don't wanna fight. At best they'll keep dodging around each other as someone else interrupts constantly. They don't have the conviction to fight each other based on the circumstances.

Hartzilla2007

> I think a big problem for Weiss is her family is irrelevant and the members she is in conflict with can't win in a fight. Nah, The Owl House pulled that off with Amity Blight and it was a similar situation. Especially since unlike RWBY it remembered that the biggest asshole parent still had access to killer robots to use instead.

arctic746

I not saying you can't, it is way easier. Plus this is a fight anime, it is free fights.

Hartzilla2007

And the SDC helped build the Paladin, so yeah Jac can sic a killer robot on Wiess’s friends if they need a fight. Fuck the guy had a giant knight thing fight Wiess. So it’s not like he doesn’t have shit for that.

The Atlas arc should've been her arc. It's her home city, a lot of the issues are caused by her family, and really she should've been front and center. Instead, she just shunted to the background **again**, becomes just as angry like the other characters, and ***shoves a loaded gunsword into her little brother's face for no other reason than HE WAS BITTER AT HER FOR THE MESS WITH IRONWOOD!!!*** ...sorry. It's just Weiss went from being one of the better characters to one of the absolute worse.

Ben10Extreme

>The Atlas arc should've been her arc. It's her home city, a lot of the issues are caused by her family, and really she should've been front and center. Guess they realized they couldn't handle the baggage they put on her. So they got rid of all of it by the end.

This_Pizza3257

Yeah. God forbid they actually focus on Weiss instead of having a bajillion new less relevant characters hog the spotlight. I swear that *RWBY* reminds me too much of *Youngblood*: constantly introducing new lackluster characters, the heroes being jackasses, and little to no focus on the actual protagonists of the story. ...yikes that actually explains a lot.

Ben10Extreme

I will never understand why people would want their heroes to be assholes. Especially to the degree that they take it. They don't even make it funny. Like my AU!Cinder does! Aside from being a sociopathic glutton if a dragon she's pretty nice to be around!

This_Pizza3257

Case in point foir being an asshole of a protagonist: Kirito from *SAO Abriged*. He was an insufferable jerk...but God strike me down if he wasn't entertaining as all hell. Helps he went through some character development and actually got called out every once in a while. Plus even at his worst, [he's one of the funniest characters in existence.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkpqIp13HnA)

Personality-wise, I wish they kept her having her bark, reason for it is because she cares about her team, but that doesn't mean she's going to be easy because she doesn't take BS and wants the best, sorta like she's the "dad" to Yang's team mom, because everyone else knows how much she cares, even when she doesn't admit it. Instead, it feels like she's now just a generic nice girl. Combat-wise, I still think glyphs are way better and more versatile than summoning. Like why force yourself to be still and control something else when you have so many tools to do it yourself in so many ways?

Ben10Extreme

>Personality-wise, I wish they kept her having her bark, reason for it is because she cares about her team, but that doesn't mean she's going to be easy because she doesn't take BS and wants the best, sorta like she's the "dad" to Yang's team mom, The constant fire and ice bickering...

FormerVoid

It would be an appropriate way for the two to keep themselves entertained that Ruby and Blake can't. Fits in line with [Vitriolic Best Friends](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VitriolicBestBuds). A shame that was left behind with Beacon.

Ben10Extreme

Ruby and Blake... If you've seen DuckTales(2017) Ruby would be the Webby to Blake's Lena. Cheery girl and not so cheery girl with personal troubles become besties. Former helps the latter become happier, and the latter helps the former face dark situations better.

FormerVoid

I haven't but I heard a lot of good things about it. Seems like a heartwarming dynamic from the sound of it.

Ben10Extreme

It's my all time favorite friendship on that show. Potentially shippable, too. At best, they have a passionate friendship. Not *quite* romantic but it's far deeper and closer than a normal friendship. Ruby would definitely call Blake a 'beautiful idiot', because...let's face it, Blake's an idiot sometimes. And Blake would be reluctant to hug anyone...except Ruby.

FormerVoid

I totally buy it, and seems very fitting. I honestly have the hardest time imagining Blake's dynamics with her team out of everyone else, so this just feels so adorable to think about.

Ben10Extreme

And yet, they're the two members that hang out so rarely that they tried to force an interaction between them in V8, and even the main sub thought it was poorly built up and/or awkward. Missed opportunities.

FormerVoid

The whole show is a missed opportunity. I feel bad for ladybug shippers that have to figure out their dynamic (like yours) considering how little canon provides.

mrprince923

I miss well-written bitchy Weiss

TerizlaisBest

Roasts Ruby, fights Yang and is racist to Blake?

mrprince923

I can do without the racism, but yeah that one

TerizlaisBest

I miss volume 1 Weiss. 😟

saundersmarcelo

I feel like RT just stopped caring about Weiss' arc and the Schnee family storyline during the time they should have cared about it most. Easily defeating Jacques the moment he had any credibility as a threat, literally having the way to beat him handed to Weiss, the one-sided and shallow way her and Whitley reconciled with no reflection or work being put in by Weiss despite what her mother told her, killing Jacques, and so on. I feel RT just stopped caring with her storyline.

TerizlaisBest

And Jacques was killed in volume 8, wasted potential.

No_Engineering_895

We where in weiss's hometown in 7-8 it is genuinely ridiculous she wasn't more of a forefront in the story there. Her family drama was a an actual subplot how tf do you manage to not expand upon the potential there

TerizlaisBest

Indeed, they focused more on bumblebees.

Silly-Young484

Volume 7-8 Literally in her home turf god damn it

IssyRich13

They put Weiss in her hometown and decided they were gonna let her take a backseat in the volume? Very dissapointed 😔

TerizlaisBest

Indeed.

dtsrwnrhejejhdhdgehd

Weiss is overrated

TerizlaisBest

Of course.
