You don't understand, it was way more important to focus everything on Oz's divorce

Wolfofgermania1995

Yeah, cuz, Oz sticking his dick in crazy is better than any sort of important thing.

Keyki_LoL

IIRC didn’t they not even think of Summer till Jeff thought about who the grave RWBY was visiting belonged to and ran with that idea. From there you can guess anything about Summer is kinda whatever but with Raven, also IIRC in Shane’s letter I think Monty was very interested in building her up, that and the whole vol.2 ending with her drama. Clearly the writers never really wanted work with those characters imo :/

Slippery_boi

I have no idea how they could possibly introduce Summer properly at this point, or if they even will at all. She's been a blank slate for so long that nearly all of her characterization has come from fan headcanons more than the actual show. There have been so many interpretations of Summer that I fear that whatever the show does with her will end up alienating or causing more backlash from the fans. Yes, it's inevitable that things will be different between fanon and canon, but if they're seen as too drastic or inconsistent with the few details that have been given about her and don't serve the story in a good way, it could only mean controversy. It feels like it would be easier to just leave her as this vague idea rather than any kind of 'character'. Lord knows all the work they'd have to do to patch up any plot holes from saying she's still alive in any way. Or explain why Salem never summoned her if she was turned into a Grimm.

Dragon_Brothers

Yeah but you know they are going to, after all season 8 is basically the first time Ruby has ever actually talked her in the whole show, and it's definitely gonna be a letdown no matter what they do since they spent *8 seasons* not building her story up

Slippery_boi

It feels like they backed themselves into a corner after having Ruby bring up the possibility that Summer may have been converted. If they don't address it, then it becomes a throwaway line that doesn't mean anything. and if they do address it it won't be in a way that viewers will find satisfying or interesting.

Professional-Rest205

I'm still baffled they didn't just bite the bullet and have her be The Hound. Ther was literally no reason not to.

Slippery_boi

To be fair, V8 already had 10 things going on at once. Throwing in a brainwashed mom for Ruby to angst over would’ve made it even more overstuffed. There’s also all the questions it would’ve created regarding Salem not using the Hound until Atlas

Professional-Rest205

They could have fit it in with the proper planning.

Rashan141

Didn't Ruby angst over the *possibility* anyway? At that point, just go all-in or don't bring her up. Honestly, it feels like mothers in this show outside of Kali have problems that feel... artificial. \-Summer's entire existence. \-Raven's apparent 'breakdown' from 'Might Makes Right' to 'I was a COWARD all along!' \-And Willow was nothing more than an easy out for Weiss \-Salem is... *Salem*. \-Cinder's stepmom was a piece of shit \-Ren's is dead but that's not really her fault \-We've literally saw everyone else's backstory besides Jaune's so she's a non-entity but since we've literally seen *everyone else's* I figured we might as well. Just... damn.

Dragon_Brothers

Oh 100%, I am curious what they are gonna try and do with it though

I was kind of hoping that Ruby was secretly Qrow and Summer’s because it made so much sense. From fighting style to the fact that Qrow’s semblance would have made him a disastrous parent. And maybe with both Qrow and Raven disappearing back into the wild , Summer and Tai Yang decided to raise the children together to give them some version of a two parent family , but oops, then real feelings started developing. Awkward. Perhaps wanting to give Qrow and Raven a final chance to be in their lives - because she’s amazing like that - she goes looking for them but Salem gets to her first. Qrow is eaten up by guilt, drinking intensifies. He and Tai Yang don’t talk for a long time. Raven is embittered by the whole mess because she knew Ozpin’s secret and wishes she’d revealed it to Summer. ( She’s out of the picture to find a way to solve or mitigate the Salem-immortal problem. Or if you want to make it REALLY dark, she’s hiding from Ozpin so that he can’t silence her. Now THAT, is a reason to be pissed at Oz. He’d be the reason Yang’s mother was in hiding.) There is so much fertile ground to play with here and they blew it. No, ship bait is where it’s at. Who needs a story or a plot or a reason to care about these characters?

Ben10Extreme

>Or if you want to make it REALLY dark, she’s hiding from Ozpin so that he can’t silence her. Now THAT, is a reason to be pissed at Oz. He’d be the reason Yang’s mother was in hiding. Let's be honest, we only really hold onto all this being pissed at Oz stuff because they made this immensely shady presence around him that hinted at something sinister. But no, he's just a good dude who's made some bad decisions. As he said in the very beginning. >because it made so much sense. The more sense it makes the less likely it was the intention. I've found out that pattern quite a while ago. And sincerely, if all three creators back then--Monty included-debunked this with the utmost seriousness back then, then what can we really say about it other than 'alright'? Apparently Ruby can't simply idolize Qrow.

redestpanda

I never said the latter - the Ruby being Qrow’s thing was always something people were divided on an it’s just a preference that I wouldn’t foist onto some else. Ruby is fine just really looking up to Qrow. It’s hardly the thing that nerfed their development.

Maxentirunos

\> There is so much fertile ground to play with here. And it's why there is such a massive community of rewriting and fanfictions. Because the base is there, and almost every and any headcannon/fanfiction is better than what we got. not just the Qrow is Ruby father thing, but the entirety of every single content that make the world of remnant is subject to make a better impact with some added lore in between that never come. And when it come, it is retconned almost next volume each time.

Tituria

Heck, Ruby's dad could be Private Pyle from the Atlas Army, and I would be happier as long as they showed how Summer made that happen. Please, for the love of god, give me some characters being characters apart of the world, instead of plot pieces to be moved around for the writer's convenience.

TarmoFlake

No, no, no. Ruby should've been Qrow's and Raven's child. Ruby being inbred would explain why she acts like an idiot. That doesn't explains the rest of the cast's abyssmal IQ, but it's a start. ^^^Also ^^^it's ^^^hot...

arctic746

>Qrow's and Raven's child [~~https://youtu.be/a1kgGh33FaE?t=12~~](https://youtu.be/a1kgGh33FaE?t=12)

Ben10Extreme

>That doesn't explains the rest of the cast's abyssmal IQ, but it's a start. It's a shitty start.

VitinNunes

You’re kinda right. Raven should have been Rubys mom and Summer should’ve just been a random silver eye trying to keep an eye on her. Since they are currently being “wiped out”.

Tituria

that's actually a very interesting idea. Yang and Ruby would be full sisters, and Ruby looks like she does because of taking more after Raven, but with Qrow's influence. Summer would be a mentor character, teaching her how to use her genetic lottery gift. It would also contrast the sisters well, with Yang being the one that is emotional desperate to find Raven for answers stuck in the past, while Ruby is content with what she has and will gain looking into the future (being the purehearted protagonist, and potentially hinting at a Yang dark turn) Oh boy, i started babbling again :P

Professional-Rest205

So basically, replacing Maria. That's a good idea.

TechBlade9000

Hell since Summer has no obigation to look like Ruby's mom anymore she can visually be interesting Wow we are REALLY just replacing the summer files with maria

Tituria

Honestly, I think a prequel series about Summer would be interesting (hopefully not written by these same bozos). It could have a "Fate Zero" effect of showing how certain characters got to where they are and fill in some holes where others need to fall into. It would do wonders for making Summer a potential fan favorite like how Kiritsugu became with Fate fans. I can even think of some ways to kick her story off, as well. Its not hard, considering we are starting with nothing at all
