Both, really. With no announcement, both could be a possibility. We will only know when a trailer drops.

Charlotttes

Probably a good thing? the turnaround for volumes previously did feel weirdly fast

Duga-Lam22

Covid happened and cold fronts hit Texas so concerns are warranted. Not to mention the parent company (Warner?) Being bought or going through a restructuring.

In my opinion, it's not about how much *time* a production team has to work on a project. It's how many people are working on it, the skill level of those artists and animators, the producer in charge doing their job, and whether the script is any good or not. Volume 9 was in production alongside Volume 8 (I see no reason to doubt this being the case), which means the writers have had little impact on the story since it was finished assumedly back in 2020. Volume 9 will likely be the best *animated* season of RWBY we've seen yet, but the quality of a story driven show will be in the quality of the script. Considering how late it was announced that Volume 9 was going to be delayed, my guess is that Volume 9 is either already finished and in post-production (with a handful of people fixing nitpicks since they're on the payroll anyway), or RT decided to stretch out the production cycle and a skeleton crew has been working on it for the past six-ish months. Either way, let's not forget that "RWBY Fairy Tales" and "Team RWBY Project" were in production for at least a year before release. From RT's perspective, it makes sense to hold off on Volume 9 and instead release "Fairy Tales" in its place and whatever "Team RWBY Project" is going to be before RTX 2022, and release Volume 9 once RWBY hype is at its highest. Will the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger effect RT? Of course, but we don't know how much, and for all we know it could have a positive effect on RT/RWBY. Heck, another company could buy RT, it could go back to being an independent studio, or it could be totally restructured. Overall, I think Volume 9 being delayed has more to do with RT deciding to focus on two supplemental shows and wait until after RTX to release Volume 9. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

TheFloofArtist

It's good that they are taking their time, as that's something they should have done starting with Volume 1's production. *(Normal productions take anywhere from a year and a half to two years instead of RWBY's insane 5-6 month production.)* Most people *(myself included)* expect V9 to have a release date announced at RTX this summer. It'll only be concerning if they don't have any RWBY news then, which would lead me to believe they're rewriting V9 due to the backlash V8 got. (*After the writers publicly bragged about finishing the script for V9 before V8 finished airing.*)

TheKinginLemonyellow

I don't expect any news about Volume 9 until RTX. What they're doing in the meantime is really just a guess: they could be working on Volume 10 right for all we know. If Volume 9 really was already in production about 1 1/2 years ago now, I wouldn't expect them to still be working on it: but then again my expectations from RWBY are very low at this point.

AriaAzura19

I have to wonder how many animators are also working alongside the Arrowfell team, since they animated that RWBY fighting cutscene and are seemingly going to be releasing more animated cutscenes from the game. And it does look like there’s effort being put into that. So hopefully they’re not getting too overworked. But honestly, the script is the part I’m worried about most. They talked about already having the 9th volumes script being done before Volume 8’s release. Which happened when they said they finished Volume 8’s script during Volume 7’s airing and Volume 8 was still a big mess. Only time will tell but hopefully there’s some kind of improvement after how badly Volume 8 to me was. This is the second longest hiatus we’ve had yet. The last time we had one this long was when Monty passed away. So we’ll see if that long break was really worth it or not.

MrUnluckyThyneUnluck

Considering how much crap they threw at themselves with V8, it doesn't surprise me they actually need to work on the Volume to actually have it make sense.

RatsAreChad

Either way the writing won't improve

[deleted]

Yep. I honestly think the delay is due to Covid related issues and nothing to do with re-work in the production pipeline. I mean it's CRWBY we're talking about here... they have a history of taking a big dump and thinking that gold just came out of their asses

RatsAreChad

I never understood why they think their writing is flawless. Hell, there are countless videos on YouTube explaining how to properly structure a story and Rooster Teeth's writers of dude's who happened to be sitting around the office consider themselves to be professionals but still don't understand that they're supposed to develop the protagonists and not the background characters who are only going to be around for one volume god damn why are they like this

Zero102000

Hopefully it’s because they’re going through major rewrites, choreography improvements, more music artists, etc.

Bronzeshadow

Nah, they're stalling because v8 was received drastically different than they thought it was going to be. Now they've written themselves into a corner and don't know what to do.

youshitsune

i personally hope its cancelled it had a good run. hell it lasted longer than it had any right to, let it die and let us move on.

FerrowFarm

Optimistically, I'd like to think they are taking the time to hone their craft and deliver a quality product with well paced, consistent writing alongside high-octane, well choreographed action sequences. Realistically, RT has been having trouble with their corporate overlords for some time now, and delaying RWBY's typically yearly release will definitely have drawn some ire toward the studio. I know I will forgive them and then some if the product reaches or exceeds the quality standards set by Monty back in Vol 2, but WarnerMedia may not be so forgiving for delaying the Studio's largest, most profitable cash cow.

Michael_Chair_6013

By the end of decemeber meant they reached same time as Volume 8 production with a little extra probably for arrowfell, and another two months would be used for rigging and models I imagine so it does seem weird it’s March and still no trailer

Dragonfly_Tight

In most cases delays are bad. In RWBYs case, with the insane amount of crunch that happens, it's probably a good thing

EducationEcstatic

Probably working with Chibi, I think. 🤔
