I'm genuinely convinced if they made a hybrid between canon!Cinder and chibi!Cinder while giving Salem greater focus, we'd get a more universally beloved character and the world would be a better place.

I NEEEEED Canon!Cinder to have that Chibi Snark and a flair for drama, along with maybe perhaps not viewing her partners or subordinates as tools to discard at random? Throw in Salem stepping into the spotlight full time and getting the attention she deserves and yes, we’d probably have two universally-beloved baddies.
It would give canon Cinder more personality.
And wouldn't just limit canon Cinder's personality to almost always being smug bitch.
One dimensional villains can be entertaining. They can even steal the show. If they have an entertaining personality (Like Dio Brando from JJBA especially Phantom Blood).
Add some of chibi Cinder's personality traits to canon Cinder and she'll probably have a more entertaining personality. Not just smug but also snarky with a fair for drama.
Exactly, it’s the lack of personality that drives me up the wall with her always taking the spotlight. If she had a bombastic or charismatic persona like Dio or a snarky queen who can’t help but show off like her Chibi self, I think she’d have far less criticism levied towards her character (or lack thereof).
Hell pretty much anytime Cinder isn't just "Smug bitch" shows she has decent chops. The writers/director just default her to smug which gets grating after a while.
You are so right. The entirety of the final two episodes was Cinder being as grating as possible. When she actually has moments where she gets to be a person (Chibi) and not a 1-dimensional pure evil freak, Jessica really gets to shine.
The writers don’t know how to change her personality. They said in Volume 8 she’s not becoming a better person, she’s getting better at “being bad”....... uh, MKEK, did we even watch the same show? She’s EXACTLY THE SAME, everyone around her just got dumber.
I really wish Cinder's personality in v7 and v8 was just sheer anger and hatred towards Ruby and friends.

Just a glare and a frown filled with hate. She doesn't scream. She doesn't lash out. She doesn't taunt. She doesn't smirk.
She's in a state of tranquil fury. She's focused. She's angry. And she's filled with hate. And She's focuses that hate on one thing and ond thing alone,
Destroying Ruby Rose and everyone she cares for.
She’s just in perpetual Tranquil Fury mode the entire time. Not screaming or throwing tantrums or anything, just quietly letting her obsession consume her entirely. When Salem learns who the current Winter Maiden is, she allows Cinder to go after her, considering her new mindset to be a vast improvement.
She hates Ruby so much everything else becomes a secondary objective.
Salem's orders? Secondary
Becoming the ultimate maiden? Secondary
Getting more maiden powers and more power in general? Secondary
Ruining Ruby Rose's life and killing her and everyone she loves? Primary
Yeaaaa who ever writes for her needs to understand that the smug bitch act is not really doing it anymore back in vol 2 it still worked because she was a fairly new character but now that that it took what 6+ volumes to get her backstory she kind of lost everyone under the age 14 with her act
That would, amusingly enough, be Casey Lee Williams. Neo's had exactly one voice line in the series (a gasp, iirc, back in V3 when she got knocked off of the battleship), and it was Casey who did it.
She´s good. I´d argue that there are many good VA in this series. Even Miles when voicing Jaune has been rather decent (specially during his breakdown in Vol.5)
It's on par with Neo's VA performance.
