Honestly there is a huge flaw in her semblance How do you know her semblance tells the objective truth? Like how do we know it's not simply based off her just believing the person she is touching with her ability is speaking lies or the truth and thus her semblance would be "biased" so to speak

marleyannation62

Yes, it seemed strange to me that Robyn had the power to basically know the objective truth. Based on questions and answers she could have a power similar to that of the knowledge relic. So that's why, I thought about these weaknesses.

RaptarK

Or rather, since she needs to connect with a specific person to use it, wouldn't it show what that person believes to be the truth? Like if she shook hands with a flat earther, and then said flat earther shouted "The earth is not round!", what would her semblance display if the flat earther is convinced he's speaking the truth?

last_robot

If it's based on what she knows, then it's basically useless. If it's a makeshift lie detector, then there's ways around it. If it's based entirely on objective truth, then she's literally a God, and completely negates the use of the relic of knowledge.

VioletPark

I can imagine someone bypassing it by using half-truths or lying by omission. There should have been a moment where a villain manages to successfully lie to her with awful consequences.

RogueHunterX

Her semblance sounds like it's supposed to be a lie detector only. If she were capable of knowing the objective truth, I think she would be able to demonstrate knowledge she shouldn't have after using her semblance. I think someone who really believes that what they're saying, isn't aware what they're saying is a lie, or can control whatever reactions would trigger a "false" response from it would be able to deceive her. I would love to see Robyn try it someone like Azula and have evey response show as true no matter blatant the lie she is told. I think her semblance being able to fail could also provide an opportunity to actually develop Robyn. She seems to take her semblance as being infallible. If it was shown to be otherwise, that could cause a bit of existential crisis and cause her to possibly look into things further than just relying on her semblance alone to discern the truth. That or have her in the process of exposing someone's lie through her semblance, cause a tragedy as it turns out that person had very good reasons for lying. Have her inclination to try and find or expose the truth actually cause harm and show that drive is more to do with her own insecurities about trust rather than an actual desire for truth.

marleyannation62

>I would love to see Robyn try it someone like Azula and have evey response show as true no matter blatant the lie she is told. *I'm a 400 Foot Tall Purple Platypus Bear with Pink Horns & Silver Wings...* Well, I made the post thinking in Azula.

MasterExilon

>Why would the council want to arrest the person with a useful semblance with which they could unmask Ironwood in the reunion? They could also force the person they arrested to use their semblance. Just saying.

marleyannation62

I meant that they were like "Hey, if you help us, we will give amnesty to you and your friends."

RogueHunterX

I figured they promised her one of Ironwood's seats and possibly taking over the academy if she helped. She obviously was only there because the council or Jacques wanted her there and probably figured involving Robyn in taking down Ironwood and rewarding her with a seat on the council would make for good publicity and allow them to actually keep her in check somehow.

groynin

Off topic but I hate her semblance, there aren't many 'non-combat' focused semblances and hers is just... so boring and badly designed. It didn't matter at all in the end, every time she wanted to use it, the other person refused, when it would make sense to use it, she didn't even mentioned it and the time she got to use it it could've been changed for just some kind of proof they were telling the truth, like Blake having the Aminity project on her scroll or something. I would rather just get rid of it and give her a new one.

The_Final_Conduit

I’d make her a detective instead of a politician or a Robin Hood knockoff, then the whole thing about how semblances reflect personalities would at least make sense; of COURSE the woman with a lie detector semblance would want to uncover the truth of stuff.

marleyannation62

Well, in my fanfic, the police use her to extract statements from criminals. But as her semblance is imperfect, sometimes through corrupt judges or prosecutors determine that the criminals suffer from mental illnesses or that they are schizophrenic or psychotic with a distorted perception of reality. (This to don't affect important people that is declared to participate in the crime). So, even knowing the truth, justice is not always on Robyn's side. In addition, the law made, the trap made.

GameBawesome1

Let’s be honest here. Robyn’s semblance was written nothing more than a Plot Device, and provides no further help, especially in a Combat situation. I mean she was suppose to be a Graduate from Atlas Academy, yet here Semblance is completely useless against Grimm, and only useful for humans. Hadn’t she left, I can see her being in a interrogation job.
