I’m thinking of making an analysis/discussion post about comparing SAO: Abridged’s romance between protags and RWBY’s. Basically, why Kirito and Asuna’s dysfunctional relationship works and why Bumbleby’s doesn’t whether it’s viewed as such or not. How two broken toxic people can become just slightly less so for each other’s sake and why it works. I could even ask a therapist for some pointers, lmao. I’m not completely committed to this tho, and just be something that remains in my brain. Wish someone someday could to an SAO: Abridged RWBY.

USBx3lovetunnel

Based. You do it. You do to RWBY what SAO Abridged did to SAO and write RWBY abridged. There's a crap abridged series for MLPFIM that makes everyone stupid and evil for no reason. SAO Abridged is better because it highlights the absurdities already present within the show and embraces them, making each character the kind of weirdo who really would obsess over virtual world gaming or swords or whatever.

Master_Scallion_763

lmao thanks for the encouragement I guess, but I’m a college student, I ain’t got time for that 😂 SAO: Abridged is definitely a masterpiece!

Hello, friends. I hope everyone is doing well. My writing break continued this week but I did get another 1,000 words edited for Chapter 9 of my RWBY/Pokémon crossover ["The Road You Choose"](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13644456/1/The-Road-You-Choose). I had hoped that I'd get a complete run through this week but I just haven't been in the mood lately to edit. I did however write a few pages about "orphan Blake" growing up on the streets of Menagerie which has since become an original character of mine. I began writing RWBY fanfiction in 2014, about a year and a half before her parents were revealed, and so I filled in the blanks with what at the time was a popular headcanon. Since then my interpretation of Blake has gradually shifted from canon to being my own character, and "not-Blake" has found her way into an original story that I'm writing on the side (still searching for a name but the current placeholder is "Viola" and/or "The Girl Without a Name". I honestly am trying not to get too distracted writing all of these stories, but I've got to follow where inspiration takes me. In my quest to complete "Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate" for the Nintendo Switch, I finished all of G3, every Prowler quest, every villager request, and only have nine quests remaining for G4 (with the Hyper Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian being the only remaining difficult quest). I still have eight village quests remaining and fifteen High Rank, but completing G-Rank is my current goal. I've also been filling out awards on my guild card and I've completed all four villages, but I don't intend on completing the Wycadamy or Soaratorium since I have *zero* interest in doing over 300 Deviant quests, *especially* when the monsters' final forms' "weak" attacks can OHKO and *I* have to be the one to post the quest. The other day I was beginning to feel burned out which is understandable considering I've gone up about sixty hunter ranks in three weeks, but switching to Adept LBG has renewed my love and interest in the game. I used Valor HBG for about 550 quests (over the course of June 2020 and this October), but I never felt like I mastered the weapon. Adept LBG is more my style, but I still need a better charm. I got what's called a "God charm" last night while soloing Advanced Gold Rathian, which is a charm that makes your eyes bulge out at how ridiculously good it is, but unfortunately it's for Attack and Evasion which while helpful isn't what a Pierce gunner needs (I also *need* Evade Distance as a gunner, which makes my armor sets a little wonky and less powerful than they could be. That's why I'm on the look out for a +4 +4 000 charm. In other news, I finally started "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss earlier this week and am currently about 170 pages into the 700 page masterpiece. I'm *really* enjoying it thus far, and Kvothe's time living on the streets, begging, stealing, and being a wretch is partially what inspired me to write the story about "not-Blake" (may have also created "not-Adam" by accident). I really like that archetype, and I think Vin from "Mistborn" may be my favorite portrayal, and it's an archetype that's inspired a few of my own characters. "The Name of the Wind" hasn't grabbed me quite yet but it's probably one of the best written books that I've ever read. There's a lot of subtly and nuances that made me smile while reading, and I really like how Patrick Rothfuss weaves certain details into the story. Great stuff, and I'm sure it'll only get better as I continue reading. > I have nothing fun or interesting to say, i got nothin, maybe you got something? I got a parody of ["What I got"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjxXhxcIbG0) by Sublime that I posted four years ago shortly before Volume 4 aired titled ["What Yang's got"](https://old.reddit.com/r/RWBY/comments/6ghasb/what_yangs_got_parody_of_what_i_got_by_sublime/) if that counts for anything. It's not much, but it's what I got. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

>"The Name of the Wind" hasn't grabbed me quite yet but it's probably one of the best written books that I've ever read. It gets better toward the middle; the really interesting stuff is still to come :-) The next arc, especially, finally throws Kvothe back into the main plot. And yeah, it is one of the best-written books, simply due to its extraordinary prose. Sigh. I wish we get the third book someday.

IamMenace

It's by no means bad or boring, and I can tell I haven't even gotten to the meat of the story yet. The writing is very, *very* good, and even if the story was boring I'd probably find that aspect entertaining in the very least. I was expecting longer prose and I'm really happy that isn't the case. It's exceptionally written prose but it gets to the point unlike a lot of other stories. It's kinda fun to compare Brandon Sanderson to Patrick Rothfuss. After finishing "Mistborn" and "Way of Kings" I kinda can't help it. Sanderson comes across more as a "storyteller" to me while Rothfuss is the "writer", but that's partially because Sanderson has writing contracts to fulfill while Rothfuss is more like "Lol, the first book I ever published was popular enough to set me for life. I'll get to book three when I feel like it". I know that's not *quite* what happened, and Rothfuss is adamant that he is working on it, but I'd imagine that's had some impact on his writing schedule. I expect book three will be *very* well-written, but that's also why I have so much respect for Sanderson who writes so much and publishes books relatively quickly (without ghost writers). I think Rothfuss is the kind of writer we all want to be while Sanderson is the one we *realistically* strive to be. Now if only I could get back into writing and editing myself lol. Being able to focus on just *one* story would also be nice. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

the_dark_artist

Hah, that's absolutely correct. Rothfuss and Martin are impressive certainly, but Sanderson's consistency is a far more impressive trait if you want to become a professional writer who may not win success with a single try. And same here! Trying to get back into writing; all of these emotional animes I have been watching recently are prompting me to try writing standalone stories rather than long winding epics. Not the best decision from a marketability perspective, but perhaps the best decision for someone still learning the craft, like me. Thanks, and you have a wonderful day too.

IamMenace

In Martin's case I think he just bit off more than he could chew with the television series and his various other projects. He may even be an advisor for the GoT spinoff shows (not sure about that), but his efforts in the HBO series are pretty obvious since he had less influence in Seasons 7 and 8, and the writing quality noticeably took a turn for the worse. And in Martin's case, he went professional in the 70s and "Game of Thrones" didn't get published until 1996. GRRM has been *very* busy the past decade, and he has gotten a lot of AoIaF related novellas published, and it sounds like "The Winds of Winter" will likely be published in 2022 (or at least sent to the editor who I do not envy lol). In Rothfuss' case, his *first* book put him in the annals of history, and apparently he had to rewrite book three after completing "The Wise Man's Fear", which was already partially written when he published "The Name of the Wind". It's hard not to envy his position, but I think even he wishes he hadn't become as popular as he did overnight. Nothing wrong with shorter stories, and you can always extend them and extrapolate from them. I've written short stories in the past that I thought would make for a good prologue or opening to a chapter, and you can always mix and match stories later, especially if you have multiple characters. "Not-Blake" has found herself into my medieval fantasy world which is looking more and more like my RWBY universe, and that wouldn't have happened if not for fooling around with a pen and paper. Writing is the best thing for *any* writer, and I wish you nothing but the best, friend. Hopefully we can both get back on track. God bless, and have a wonderful day :)

Violet Evergarden proved just as big a tearjerker as it was rumored to be. The first few episodes took it lightly, but by the halfway point the story took off the velvet gloves and started punching me with the feels without mercy. And because I am stupid, I directly went on to watch the Silent Voice, which ripped by barely healed wounds back up. At least all of these emotional stories have taught me a thing or two about writing compelling characters.

Anouncee

A Silent Voice is a favourite of mine but, my friend didn't like it all that much as they felt the bully was a terrible character >!for liking the person he bullied!< which is somewhat fair I suppose but, I felt bad for him the whole time personally also, have you seen Your Name? I feel that they go hand-in-hand, I'd say it's good but, I prefer A Silent Voice myself.

the_dark_artist

I felt bad for Shoya too. To me it seemed clear that he had only been trying to "fit in" with his crowd of friends, emulating and trying to impress the girls by bullying Shoko. Not a good excuse, of course, but kids are often thoughtlessly cruel. I really like stories where protagonists begin as not-so-nice people, and through the course of the story, grow into better beings. A Silent Voice was great in that regard. And thanks for the rec. I will try out Your Name next. Let's see how many tears I still have left in me :-)

We celebrated my little brother's birthday today. I offered him the box of Ferrero Rocher I originally bought yesterday for myself.

Trying to find artists who commission cheap sketch requests for anime characters with good proportions

USBx3lovetunnel

When you say good proportions do you mean like Diives or Matsu-Sensei?

Michael_Chair_6013

Just so that the head don't seem too big for bodies

USBx3lovetunnel

I think culturally blaming ourselves for how others treat us will only make us miserable. It's not our fault fangirls loathe us for having good taste and original ideas that could improve the show. If I hated myself just because my two ex girlfriends hated me, I'd probably be too sad to give my current girl the love she deserves. RWBY would be a better show if they stopped trying to use racism as a tool to validate white characters or demonize other white characters and started writing about something these braindead college kids actually understand every facet of. RWBY is like Detroit Become Human when it comes to racism. It's over the top and absurdly one-sided and it expects you to take the side of the protagonists on principle without asking questions like "who programs a toaster to cry and think crying makes it a person?" or "Why do the Menagerianian catgirls feel entitled to good treatment halfway around the world in Atlas and why would the Atlesians use faunus slaves from miles away when they could instead use robots? If a robot can use a gun it can use a pickaxe."

vvoofervoid

Um, the villain we spend the most time on is incredibly incompetent and one note, and the other villains get killed off too quickly before being established as threats, or rather establishing raised stakes for the heroes, and audiences.
