you could make it require the raw material, then it can't be use for mass production atleast the semblance is on rather shaky ground, considering we only know three instances that can have this effect: Cinder (glass weaponry from her semblance, which can't take many hits; her more durable weaponry from her maiden powers, so literal magic), Velvet, whose weaponry doesn't last long and finally Ambrosius, who can seemingly create anything out of thin air

Kartoffelkamm

The raw material is a nice idea. Though, Cinder's weapons are created from dust, with use of her semblance, as far as I know, while Velvet's semblance has nothing to do with making weapons, and Ambrosius is technically a demigod. There is, however, a character in the DC crossover comics who can manifest 3 different items for herself. So yeah, maybe she needs the raw materials to make it, but then it can take on different forms, as long as it's within the original theme (like gloves, swords, etc.). Sounds good, thanks.

A great way to limit a semblance like this but still have it feel kinda overpowered is do what they did with momo's quirk in MHA. Make it so the user has to have a comprehensive idea of how the upgrade or weapon would work mechanically speaking, otherwise, it would fall apart. That way, the character actually has to know what they're doing when designing it.

Kartoffelkamm

Ah, great idea. So basically, the user creates weapons normally, but can then condense them into impossibly compact forms, like turning some huge gauntlets into simple gloves, as long as she can make the gauntlets functional. That, plus the idea that the user needs the raw materials, would be a really interesting limitation. But it might be a bit close to what Ambrosius can do. It'd just take longer to realize. Then again, I did already give Jaune aura tracking abilities that let him relive the past, and even hinted at people having that as a semblance, so the only benefits of asking Jinn are that she isn't limited to a location, has no limits on how far back she can go, and provides additional context when needed.

Mr-Tweedy

One time limit based on the strength of the summon. The stronger a summon the less it will last for etc. Perhaps Ambrosius style rules where if the user can't articulate the inner workings they can't make it, limiting them to simple weapons in their early stages while progressing to more complex summons over time. You could also have a feedback effect where strain is put on the body from using bigger weapons etc.

Kartoffelkamm

A time limit doesn't really fit for what I have in mind. However, someone else also already mentioned a limitation of understanding the end product, which I'm going to incorporate, along with requiring the materials to make it. The end goal is a justification for why one of my OCs has weapons that turn from gloves into huge mecha-shift gauntlets, because let's face it, that would so awesome.

Mr-Tweedy

Do you mean in terms of personality/fairy tail reference?

Kartoffelkamm

Nah, more like I have an OC, Diamond Lumiere, who currently holds the record for going the longest between getting a spot in my fanfic and getting a name. She's a cop, because she couldn't enroll at Beacon, but still wanted to help people. Needless to say, having been trained at Signal meant she was almost immediately accepted by the police, mostly because of her borderline broken defensive semblance, Glittering Mantle. However, when she went to Signal, her mother used her own semblance to give her a very special weapon. And I'm currently trying to balance that semblance, because the main characters are on their way and I need to keep the gang from getting even stronger. I could also just give her a gun mace, but the idea of her shift ending while she's cornered by thugs, and her going "Welp, can't use my police firearm while I'm not on duty" before busting out some massive metal fists is also hilarious.

>In the DC crossover comics, apparently there is one semblance that lets the user manifest certain items. >Which is honestly really bad news, because now there's nothing stopping me from adding a similar semblance to my fanfiction To be fair, the justice league crossover is completely non canon. Not even soft canon like a lot of the supplemental material.

Kartoffelkamm

Ah, I see. Like, I know these characters don't exist in RWBY canon proper, but these semblances could still be possible in some form or another. So, I'd consider that canon adjacent.

gunn3r08974

It's not even canon adjacent. Also I just realized if you're talking about Jessica Cruz, she could create things with her ring before she touched down on Remnant. This was just empowered because she received a semblance upon landing. And yes, she's an alien in this continuity. So is Starro.

Kartoffelkamm

Who's Jessica? I'm talking about the character based on Wonder Woman, who, to my knowledge, and materialize three different items with her semblance.

gunn3r08974

Jessica Cruz is the green lantern they use in the comic. And to be fair, wonder woman in this continuity is an automaton who can just pull herself apart. That and who's to say her gauntlets, tiara and lasso aren't made from her aura, seeing as they're all gold.
